Buffy the Vampire Slayer: 5x12 Full Reaction

The professor was a dick, but the implication seems to be that the "alternate perspective" they should consider is that Rasputin (and, from context, several other historical figures) were vampires and demons. ...I mean, fair enough if she thinks this is a possibility, but I don't know what she was thinking, actually voicing those thoughts out loud to people who don't know about the supernatural.

I know it is funny and she was coming up with a fake background on the fly but just why did Anya think the best way to impress a group of British Watchers was to be all 'Born on the 4th of July! Go 'Merica! USA, USA!' ?

Very good observation that the monks could have destroyed the key but did not. I'd say that we do not know that they had the means to do so. The fact that the knights want to do so does not mean it is possible. And maybe there were moral reasons not to do so like there are now that the key is human.

Man, I love season 5. And from here to the end of the season, it's mostly bangers.

R. Chang

I'd love to see a whole miniseries of Joyce and Spike watching Passions.

On the subject of if "gods" are killable... I can't say I have any expertise in the various categories of mythical gods however, the Norse Gods are definitely able to be slain and there is a end times myth (Ragnarok) about that very thing. Now the impression I have is that they are vulnerable to fellow gods or similarly powerful entities like the Titans of Greek mythology. I can't readily speak about the Hindu gods, the Celtic gods, or the Japanese gods without doing some reading up. Hopefully this is found to be of interest, Cheers.

This was such a good season. Can’t wait to see how you react to all the episodes coming up.

Sam Alexander

Glory being a god makes so much sense in retrospect. Her full name is Glorificus, which evokes the grandeur of classical languages like Greek and Latin. She's beautiful, glamorous, and immensely powerful. Her minions literally worship her with flowery language and bring her human sacrifices. She's like a combo of the Whore of Babylon and Aphrodite.

Mornir

It's an exaggeration to say that this is the episode where Buffy comes into her own (since she's been bucking authority and kicking ass for quite a while), but it is so nice to see her come right out and calmly lay out all of the ways that she's not going to let people talk down to her anymore. She saw that the game was rigged, and so she just decided not to play.

One of my favorites of the season (but not thee favorite, and one of my favorites of the series. Buffy flinging the sword at the watcher is an ongoing GIF in my own head. I also love Willow and Tara somehow both inadvertently and defiantly coming out to the Watcher's Council.

Steve Mercier

The interaction between Buffy and Glory is casually intense. This episode is epic!

I always imagine myself in Buffy's shoes in this episode, talking back to that teacher about how HE'S the one disrupting the class by humiliating and demeaning a student who is expressing natural curiosity about historical circumstances. Same with that nasty professor in The Freshman!!

Mornir

As someone who works in history education, the way that that history professor ran his class is just awful. Not just demeaning his students but also content wise. At the college level, a discussion of Rasputin's death while taking the exaggerated story of his death at face value is terrible. A better class would probably included at least these 3 points 1) how it was in the interest of the killers to exaggerate the story of Rasputin's death to gain favor while living in exile in the West 2) it was in the interest of people living in the West to demonize Rasputin as a way to ignore a more detailed examination of the problems that led to the Russian Revolution 3) it was in the interest of leadership in the Soviet Union to demonize Rasputin to attack pre-Soviet power structures and religion. Rant over. Great reaction, Cass!

James Smith

Always love Buffy's "Power" speech at the end

Christine Cox

I don't know!! It's a little scary at this point haha
