Buffy the Vampire Slayer: 5x11 Full Reaction

Comments

Watch the shot of Buffy climbing out from underneath the rubble after the scaffolding gets knocked down at The Bronze. Spike comes to help lift it off but the camera is so quick we barely get a look at who it is helping her. Buffy doesn't acknowledge his help at all and immediately walks away to her friends.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I think it was this episode where I realised that it's probably not just being an ex-demon that explains why Anya acts the way she does; she probably just a little on the autism spectrum. Media doesn't do a lot of positive portrayals of people with asperger's but Anya seems to be a pretty clear example to me.

The Bronze's layout isn't consistent and the lighting and look are _very_ different to how they were during the high school years (where it was a much more prominent location than it is now.)

Holy Stregas

I feel so bad for laughing at Spike surreptitiously sexually assaulting Buffy on the Bronze floor, but it is a darkly comical moment. Willow is simultaneously adorable and bratty in this episode. I don't like how gung-ho she is about taking ingredients from the shop without paying. It's rude, as is her treatment of Anya. But her enthusiasm for magic is cute as is her devotion to Xander. Buffy has a thing for Dawn's hair! She's always patting or stroking it with sisterly affection. It's so sweet. It must be so hard for Buffy to reconcile her everyday memories and feelings as Dawn's older sister with the reality that Dawn isn't 'real'...

Uhh ... and how about that Sunnydale High Swim team! They could go all the way this year!

Willow definitely instigated the shenanigans in this one. Something people really don't get is that when Olaf is set free from the crystal, he thinks and acts and talks as if it were still the olden days of wenches and ale and townsfolk. All the relationship stuff with Anyanka (he uses her actual given name) is still fresh. He probably was imprisoned by witches very soon after she turned him. Another things was a sign saying "shoplifters will be transmogrified" in the Magic Box. Funny that Anya had transmogrified her boyfriend into a troll ... did she come up with that slogan? Other significant transmogrifications: Buffy temporarily became a vampire, because a young boy's nightmares made fears reality. The people of Sunnydale on Halloween, 1997. Ethan Rayne cursed people wearing his costumes to become whatever costume they were wearing. Willow even became a ghost. Amy Transmogrified Buffy, then herself into a rat. Buffy got better. Amy was temporarily detransmogrified for a moment by one of Willow's crazy spells. Another Halloween a bunch of plastic horror props like bats and spiders turned into the real thing -- a nightmare demon did that. A spiteful Bar owner on campus turned students into cavemen with cursed beer. A Shumash Ghost demon turned himself into a bear. Willow used the power of her enjoining with Giles, Xander, and Buffy to turn Adam's bullets into doves -- is that the same thing, tho? Dracula could turn into a bat, a wolf, a rolling mist, and revive from being dusted. Glory turned a cobra into a snake demon, to look for the key. Dawn herself is a mystical energy "key" transmogrified into a human girl. So it is fairly common round Sunnydale for people to transmogrify stuff, apparently.

Unironically, this video made me CRAVE some chicken wings. It's past dinner-time tonight, but that's definitely going to be lunch or dinner tomorrow. Maybe a place with a blooming onion as well...

Spike getting pissed off in an argument against a completely imaginary Buffy is so funny What Dawn overheard is definitely going to mess with her, especially when she already thinks there's something wrong with her.

Such a fun episode. Btw the bar they go to isn't just the same bar from Fool for Love, it's the same club they've been going to since season 1 (The Bronze).

Can't believe you did not recognize a character that's been there since episode one: The Bronze...

Anya's speech about the bomb countdown is very interesting considering that Xander did have to try and deal with that in 'The Zeppo'. Either Xander told Anya about that (even though he let it go unsaid amongst his friends) or it is just serendipitous. This is a fun episode, glad you enjoyed it.

Wooo yay that’s my Saturday breakfast watching sorted!
