the drinking game of when Cass says "what was that" lmao no that's too much

I definitely agree that this one interrupts the arc set up in the last few episodes. It's quite fun to rewatch though, and I like that Gunn chooses to trust Angel (for a moment at least) at the end. In Gunn's first episode there are many paralells drawn between him and Angel ('were you expecting somebody else?'). It makes so much sense that Gunn is the one out of Angel Investigations to challenge Angel and demand to be treated as a peer. This episode is definitely highlighting Gunn's continued discomfort over working for a vampire. He mutters about demons and mentions the loss of his sister admist his shroud-induced madness. I think this illustrates that he's still struggling with the concept of Angel being good. It just doesn't fit his previous worldview, and I'm not sure he knows quite what to do with that yet.

Most characters in the show get arcs over time but sometimes it seems like the writers struggle to write some of them. Gunn was obviously a struggle early on for some writers but he is a main character so they had to work on it. Kate is a secondary character that should get development but if it doesnt work out for the story in a few episodes its easier for the writers to drop her. They didn't always find a way to make her presence compelling to the story and progressive for her arc. Plenty of seeds being planted, lets keep watching and see how they grow.

The Testimony of Mushroom

This episode is one of the episodes that is MASSIVELY unpopular in the fandom. Not because it's a bad episode in and of itself, but because of where it comes right in the middle of the main plot arc. Just like you said, everybody was so jazzed for Darla and Wolfram & Hart and now suddenly there's a detour. I think it works a bit to break things up -- life tends to keep happening even when something Major is going down elsewhere -- but I also get the frustration. Angel wasn't in Darla's apartment at all in this episode, that was always his own room in the hotel where he lives. Kate was searching his home for Darla since she knows they have a connection, and that's why Angel brought up Kate not having a search warrant. That's also why Kate commented on Angel asking if it was Darla before he realized who it was, and wondering if him thinking it was Darla meant that they had had contact. Darla doesn't have "an apartment" of her own, she was always staying in a Wolfram & Hart place with no personal connection or emotional resonance (Apart from having a nice view).

A fun little heist episode plus Horror Icon, Tony Todd, under all that demon makeup

we all loved cordelia's original hair but i also understand her struggles. the actress was sick of having all that long, thick hair and i get it. it's heavy, it takes forever to dry and is difficult to take care of, so she cut it. f for cordy's hair, it's in a better place now.

Tony Todd is so good, I wish they utilized him better.

"im sooo invested in Darla and Wolfram and Hart" Ah what a difference half a season makes :) In 1x19 you were like "im so over this wolfram and hart stuff"
