2024-03-20 02:44:58 +0000 UTCcouple things about this episode in no particular order: 1. Buffy was unhappy because yes all the ex trauma but also, all her identity stuff where she wants to be normal. She was prepared to share the part of her that she wishes she was, not the part of her she truly is. When it was revealed, it wasn't her job (like Riley), it was her biggest secret and one of the deepest parts of her and she was out in the open and scared. And he didn't get how intrinsic it is to her very being. And she still wanted to pretend and have something that was hers that didn't deal with monsters and was disappointed. I'm not saying it was right but thats how I think it is for Buffy. 2. Riley's got so much to say about slayers when he didn't know she existed 10 hours ago (hes so outta pocket in this scene) 3. THE AMOUNT OF ADR ON GILES IN THE OUTSIDE SCENE WITH HIM AND BUFFY IS CRIMINAL. His lips don't synch right and he sounds like he is in a sound booth while Buffy is outside, lightly echoing off the walls. Its like every one of his lines why didn't they just reshoot the scene??????? 4. I think one of the storylines that often go overlooked in this ep is Willow's. She keeps being pulled back to her high school mindset, being alone at the party ( in the first ep, she's alone at the bronze, alone in a crowed room if you will), the high school jock diminishing her as "just some nerd from school" and asking about Oz, finding the dead body reminding her of the last episode in s1 when her and Cordy found all the dead students, etc. Then her literally having to go back to high school, and realizing things have changed. I think the "things have changed" could have been executed better like actually having her do a spell or something other than her and Xander just commenting how small everything is.
