Hey, everybody! I just wanted to check in. Obviously Daima catch up videos have been coming out this month, so you see all of that happening. But there is also much happening behind the scenes as well that you're not seeing as much of. It's Daima January that's given me the time to work on these things in preparation for what's to come. For example, last week I showed you the logo for Oh, Zeo, which also included time watching both Ohranger and Power Rangers Zeo, as well as making an animation for said logo. But on the Dragon Ball Dissection side it has involved me scanning my actual physical books of Dragon Boy and The Adventure of Tongpoo and then editing those scans into something usable. It's not something I've had to do since Episode of Bardock and Dragon Ball Minus, and even then those were raw scans someone else had given me, not scans I'd made on my own. It's taking me awhile. Every day, in between everything else, I try to set aside time to get two or three pages done.
Each step requires me to separate the two pages into their individual pages. I have to rotate the page to straighten it out. I adjust the white and black levels. And then I have to fix the gutters (the term for the area that leads into the book binding). That's where the scans are at their worst due to heavy shadows and lower focus. I'm no expert, but I do my best to get rid of all of the shadows and highlights while restoring the line work. You can see in my example that the page on the left shifted during scanning, resulting in this sudden position jump. I had to adjust that too. It doesn't have to be perfect for the videos, but I'm trying to make it as good as I can within reason. I just wanted to share that with you!
