An Early Access Look at the MMPR 30th Anniversary Special!

A 30th anniversary MMPR special is here! Our favorite middle-aged adults with attitude have returned to fight the forces of Rita Repulsa one more time. Well, some of them have returned. Others keep their helmets on the whole time to hide that they're not there, but that's part of the fun too! Does this capture the spirit of the original? Go, go, millennial nostalgia! Check it out now, a week early and ad-free. Thanks so much for helping to support the channel. I really appreciate it, and I hope you enjoy the video!

Well, if it's worth anything at all, did you notice that, while the actors didn't appear, they did give Bulk and Skull a visual cameo on a billboard, promoting some kind of business they apparently run?

I was hoping you'd cover this. I watched it on release day as well and had similar thoughts, although I was more glad than you to see at least SOME cross-Power Rangers world building. The hints that the SPD timeline is coming soon were nice, as were the teams represented by the Power Ranger action figures. I wish we could have gotten even a montage of suit action with some of the other teams, but perhaps that was too much for a special focused on MMPR Year One. I am hoping that they are setting this up for the new Yellow Ranger to appear in whatever the next series is as a guest, or perhaps to bring back Billy as a mentor. I love that he rebuilt the command-center and is essentially the Power Rangers' Tony Stark so he could be working behind the scenes. (This was part of the idea for his character had he continued into Turbo.) They are also hooks for continuing the Zordon search or a few other things if they want to do a sequel. You did not mention it, but I understand that David Yost was clear that Billy-the-character was a straight male and would continue to be, but that they included a gay couple to be rescued to signal just how much had changed in 30 years. In all of my "Forever Blue" fan fiction, I always imagined Billy as being gay so I guess that is my loss... I also wished they could have had a Bulk and Skull cameo. They were such a major part of season one and were the only (partly) consistent characters though the first seven years. Their appearances in Samurai notwithstanding, they deserve a heroic checkin. I have been watching Power Rangers Turbo for the first time and am nearly up to In Space. I hope if there is a next one that it celebrates the whole Zordon era.

Once, and always, it’s not only a mighty Morphin story, but it does reference other things in the Power Rangers universe Adam and Ayesha are actually dealing with enemies from SPD that will come to earth in a few years.
