Commission for CiferJackal in 4k (different versions) + Steps

The commissioner told me his jackal is a medieval fantasy setting type archer/ranger character who's themes include water & stars. So I came up with the idea of depicting him by a lake in a moonlit night scene with plenty of stars. Chose a secondary off-screen warm fire light source to contrast to the cool moonlight from above.

Character belongs to CiferJackal. Thanks for commissioning me <3

It really depends on the pic, here I sketched out some elements of the clothing somewhere in the middle of the process but I first rendered the version without clothes fully and then painted the clothes over it on different layers (they were grouped, so I had like a bigger group for the gloves, and another for the upper body). Doing it somewhere later in the process already gives you the lighting situation and makes it easier I guess to adapt whatever you're adding to it. Its also why I like starting a picture with painting the backgrounds to some degree first, it gives you a mindmap for the lighting in the scene :))

Love this character! For the more clothed version, do you start from the finished stage of the cape-only one and work your way up from there? Or do you have like an additional set of layers starting from some middle stage or something?

Das ist sehr SCHON! Learning German at the moment and I'm horrible at it, but dang this is beautiful. I'm really glad I became a patron to see the steps and changes as you work! I look forward to this growing even more! Thanks Kebi! I am every excited to see more as it comes!!

Aaaa, thank you. It was much fun, figuring how to paint leather, how it behaves, looking up references of leather armor ;D

Duuuuude, this looks incredible! The colors...the details.... The time lapse really shows how much love you put into it. Fantastic job, man!
