v.0.52
---
Release Commentary:
You've probably heard me mention this PeaPu's Basics for the past couple of months in the "what we're up to" posts. And you may know that I complained about a problem I wasn't able to overcome. I still haven't had the time to fix it, but I thought why sit on the other goodies that may be in here, so in true Patreon spirit, I'll present you some Early Access!

As for the problem, if you're interested:
Simply speaking, the program I use for drawing (CSP) doesn't work the way I want it to, and I can't get shadows paths (vectors) to perfectly align with the shadow circles. (probably real simple in another program). So be warned the paths aren't perfect and will be changed once I figure this out.

In the meanwhile, I am really interested in what you think of the existing stuff, despite its flaws. What else do you think I should add to the basics pack.

Changelog:
2025/07/15 - Centered Lights ->v.0.52
- Fixed: padded partial circle lights for more accurate lighting effects
Thanks to Skotticus for the provided fix

Well... I've been wanting to get dungeondraft for a while, suppose this makes for a fine excuse to go ahead and do it! Thank you for replying, and all the lovely stuff you put out.

Baron Weaver

Hellu! I'm sorry to hear about the problem. It is true that the `paths` are designed for a specific use. Basically, they're supposed to be used as a brush type. i.e. your brush continuously paints the asset allowing you to form seamless paths of your choosing. Now most commonly I expect people to use the asset in Dungeondraft, that has an inbuilt system to allow for easy manipulation of this type of asset. However, other software may not work as seamlessly with this type of asset. I know for a fact, that you can make it work in Clip Studio Paint (what I use), but with the others I don't have enough information to guide you. Ideally, I wanted to make tiles for each path so that lovely folks like you could use them as well. The only real problem with that was the amount of time it takes to do as such. The reason for that is that they all have to be perfectly seamless between each other.

PeaPu

Hello hello I love your stuff, but I have a problem. I've been using paintshop pro for nearly 20 years, and it simply lacks a lot of tools I want to use or if it does have them I have no idea how to use them x.x I love the 'paths' in a lot of your submissions but I have no idea how to make use of them. I've tried the path tools in Krita and Gimp and just can't figure it out or find a good explanation on what to do with them.

Baron Weaver

Love the semicircle and quarter circle lights. Those will be very useful for finishing up a high quality version of a map (I normally save my lighting for Foundry, but if I want to pretty up a map for someone else it's nice to be able to do the lighting in DD).

This is an excellent way to do it. I know a few other packs that have done the same thing (can't remember which ones specifically off the top of my head but I could dig them up if needed). I recommend making a path (so that someone can do curved stairs), and also a right angle corner asset that can be used with it.

Peter Brunton

I'm going to have to keep an eye out for this - I'm also running an old DD version, because I need to have an earlier version of Java for one of the games I help support. Guess I'll be doing unpacking/editing/repacking as well.

Simon 'Landmine'

Just tested with the 1.0.3.x pack and it fixed the problem! Good spot! Looks like I have some unpacking/re-packing to do. Thanks again for taking the time to look into the problem.

ZombieTwiglet

Actually, I think I know what the issue is. 1.0.3.2 doesn't support WebP as walls. Basically all my DD packs are fully WebP now. I didn't think anyone would stay on 1.0.3.2 after the next stable version released, but I guess I was wrong. You can double check by testing this pack out https://www.patreon.com/posts/b-cyberpunk-1-75335375 I have a 1.0.3.2 version for it. So in your scenario a fix would be to go to each pack. Unpack it. Convert the walls folder into PNGs and pack again.

PeaPu

Ye, I wish I could help with Linux, but that's a bit of a blackbox for me. 'tis a shame the newest versions don't quite work. But I always recommend dropping a comment in Megasploots discord server, despite it being rare, he does update the software from time to time.

PeaPu

Ah that sucks, it could well be a Dungeondraft bug. I'm on Linux, 1.0.3.2 (Tricky Vampire). Unfortunately all 1.0.4.x release are basically broken on linux (last I checked a while ago) due to lots of little breakages. I've not tried the 1.1.x.x beta yet. I'll try and give 1.0.4.x another go or the 1.1.x.x beta a go later in the week and see if that fixes it and give you a shout with the results either way. Thanks for taking a look though!

ZombieTwiglet

Well hot dang, I cannot replicated this bug. For me that wall works just fine without any overflow. I don't think that's a my asset bug, but rather a Dungeondraft bug. Are you on the latest stable version of Dungeondraft? Windows or Linux or Mac?

PeaPu

This seems to happen to me with all (or at least a lot) of your walls but here is an example video: https://imgur.com/3ptvC9f And here is an example of the behaviour I would expect using some walls from Forgotten Adventures (but this is the default for all other packs I've used): https://imgur.com/EmELSgT

ZombieTwiglet

Could you elaborate on this? I can't quite understand what the problem is. Tried testing a bunch of walls right now and besides some known issues to me, couldn't find anything that can be considered 'overflow'. The name of the wall would help too.

PeaPu

Genre-specific stairs are definitely something I should include more of in their respective packs. Maybe when I get to editing some of the interiors/exterior packs I'll drop one in. For this Basics pack, I believe a stair-shadow path would work best as it would make it universal.

PeaPu

Also I'm not sure if you're aware but some of your walls "overflow" Example: The points for this wall are where the arrows point to but the walls continue past those points which makes it hard to use them. https://imgur.com/D0M1kfz

ZombieTwiglet

Maybe I just haven't discovered a good stair pack but most stair objects/tiles are meant for fantasy games and are clearly "stone stairs" usually for ruins or a castle. I'd love some stairs for more modern/cyberpunk settings like offices, apartments etc. Edit: Whoops hit enter too early! Some paths would be great but some objects/tiles for stairs that tile well would be just as welcome this is currently my go to stair tiles as they are reasonably generic enough but some more options would be most appreciated (if not in this pack but a future pack). https://imgur.com/KMG5oHn

ZombieTwiglet

Oh my lord, how could I forget stairs!? Indeed. A good stair path is necessary. I was thinking of a shadow path that allows one to transform any texture into stairs. Is that what you were thinking or something else? Don't think I quite understood your last sentence.

PeaPu

These are great! If you're still taking recommendations for this pack more (modern) stairs would be great. Stairs seem to be the forgotten stepchild of foundry, it's either stone blocks or metal "industrial".
