Suicide Squad (2016) - Full Length Reaction & Watch-along!

Comments

I like this one way better than "The suicided squad" Why they made two. I'll never know. You Should Totally watch Wonder Woman. You have to fully set aside what you've heard though. So you don't see it when it happens and you can just enjoy it as it is. So many people just want to hate on movies with a Women leads cause of their own insecurities.

More than a couple cringy lines, V, lol. Jared had very big shoes to fill after Heath's Joker. So even though I agree with you about his Joker, I think he did a take on it that can't be replicated and made it his own as best as he could. The film did badly in the reviews due to how bad the cringe was. The slow-mo was awkward. Bad lines and audio dub corrections. They did Killer Croc, Slipknot, and El Diablo dirty. They almost felt like a little racist in their treatment of making Croc this mockery of black culture, stereotyping Diablo with Latino gang culture, and wiping out the Native American character right away, Slipknot, by making him the guinea pig for the neck bombs. Karen, Jai, and Cara were given such odd instructions from the director for their characters that they gave such strange performances; although Captain Boomerang was pretty accurate, he clearly wasn't fitting in the vibe of the other villains. Enchantress couldn't stop wiggling her hips for some reason, lol (They made Enchantress this embodiment of 'seductive magic' so they made her do weird dances while she was making her 'weapon', lol) . They made Katana do menacing poses in almost every scene, except when talking to the sword, and she only had like 3 words in English, making it feel very stereotyped white washing of a token Japanese character from old Japanese exploitation films of the 70's. The character development for these 3 was obviously not of any importance to the director or producers. This film also sparked this public obsession with encouraging abusive relationships to copy the Harley/Joker dynamic; and is one of many films that glorified this thug/gang culture but that is also a sign of the times of 2016. Captain Boomerang is a common Flash villain. That is why we saw his character, briefly in the flashback. The soundtrack choices were an attempt to copy what Guardians of the Galaxy did, also a reason it flopped with audiences because it felt too pandering. Wonder Woman is very good. I haven't seen any mockery of Gal's performances so idk what kind of bias you already have now towards what will happen, reaction-wise, if you see it but Wonder Woman is very well done and very inspirational. The ending and villain of the film is comic book accurate but feels weird in the context of the film, though. That is the only downside of any importance. People were mad that Gal got the gig. She wasn't most people's choice for Wonder Woman but she is pretty close to the OG Wonder Woman of the old TV show. Online critics wanted a 'better' representation of feminism for the idol that Wonder Woman is and has become. They felt Gal was yet another Hollywood pic of 'Hollywood ideal of what a woman should be/sexy model sells' glorification. Can't argue with that but she didn't do a bad job. I feel Gal mockery really stepped up with the covid song and the second Wonder Woman film. But the first Wonder Woman film is pretty good, imo. DC Extended Universe (DCEU) Man of Steel (2013) you saw it Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) you saw it Suicide Squad (2016) you just saw it Wonder Woman (2017) i think its good Justice League (2017) skip this and just watch the Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021 - Note: Alternate Cut) its way better and has a much more complete story. Aquaman (2018) really really fun, Amber Heard drama doesn't effect it, imo Shazam! (2019) okay, kinda fun and silly Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020) (that is the actual title, lol) Harley solo film, adds to the lore, very fun imo Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) skip, doesn't add anything, bad attempt, made it a whole cringy cultural thing by marketing as being directed by a woman, its barely fine, has Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig, better as a stand alone film tbh. The Suicide Squad (2021) very good, do not skip, James Gunn magic, spins off Peacemaker series (also part of the DCEU) played by John Cena, really worth it Black Adam (2022) skip Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023) skip, waaay to much makeup and bronzer, lol The Flash (2023) skip, mess of a story, released way too late, lot of background drama tainted it Blue Beetle (2023) skip, lol, what even was this attempt, lol, huge pander to Latino community. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023) kinda fun, less fun than the first, Amber Heard drama had a mild effect on it

This is the extended cut, btw

Watch wonder woman! But before that you have to watch Batman Vs Superman Dawn of Justice "Ultimate Edition" because that is next in the snyderverse. Then after that its the first wonder woman movie. Then its Justice Leage "Snyder cut"

Flopped big time? The movie made $749 million and was the 10th highest grossing movie of the year. That's what you call a box office hit.

it's funny, everyone I know says they hate this movie, but I went in with such low expectations in the movie theater, sick of the constant retellings of Batman's origin stories, that I was introduced to these characters who I knew very little about and enjoyed them. Not in a "oh this is such a quality movie" type way, but in a fun, trying to be gritty, summer popcorn flick "I don't need to be invested to have a good time" way. I knew nothing about Deadshot, so I liked Will Smith as Deadshot. This movie also introduced me to 21 Pilots, whose music really grew on me. And it did really feel great to finally see Harley Quin on the big screen for the first time. It's funny to me that you think of this as a 2016 film, that year never really had a style to me. To me this movie reminds me very much of the type of 90s movie collection of characters who are tasked with saving the world type film. The 90's just had SOOOOO many of them, extending into the 2000s too, that until Iron Man came out, and someone made a modern-day "saving the world" film of quality again, we were just sick of them. This movie had that kind assortment of misfits coming together cheesy plot we always get, but one with interesting characters whose dynamics are a bit more unique. Like Independence Day meets Armageddon meets Power Rangers. It's like the Michael Bay movie of superhero films for me(before he started doing Transformers films), but with less explosions than a Michael Bay movie. Yes, you should absolutely watch Wonder Woman. It's good. One of the VERY few Sniderverse films which actually has heart and makes you feel something. Pretty much the best DC movie of the Zach Sniderverse, although I never saw any of the films after it. I will someday, and for all I really know one after it might be better, but I digress. Her character's Diana's morals are Steve Rogers level, incorruptible good. Plus Jenny from Forrest Gump plays her aunt. Lots of badass horse riding fight stunts too.

So there is some confusion about the Suicide Squad movies. This film is the first story arc introducing audiences to the Suicide Squad and the concept of Amanda Waller. However, the movie flopped big time with audiences. The second Suicide Squad film, The Suicide Squad 2021, is part soft reboot, part sequel because the Suicide Squad is a constantly changing group of baddies. The only sequel aspects of the 2021 film are Harley and Joker's relationship, Amanda Waller's and pieces of Rick Flag's character arc (but not the whole story arc we just watched, that is part of the reboot element), and just a little bit of there being a previous 1 or more Suicide Squads so that premise and explanation of the squad can mostly be skipped. In all other aspects, the 2021 film is treated like a reboot with different characters, except for Harley, Amanda, Col Flag, and Joker. The performances of Jared Leto and Margot Robbie were so iconic in this first film, that James Gunn kept that part of the storyline consistent with the second film. This is also the reason why we get a Harley solo film in the DCU, too. So, technically, this film is the first Suicide Squad film and the next DCEU film in the sequence of films. The next following DCEU film in the sequence is Wonder Woman which is going to be such an awesome reaction to watch with you, lol.

You asked about Wonder Woman, grain of salt/personal bias, the first one is fine to watch, the second one should be forgotten and mind wiped from every one who made the unfortunate decision to watch it. Need some Sunshine of the Spotless mind for Wonder Woman 1984.
