Yes! A MUST...😁

Jae

She's the energizer bunny here. That she can dance like this for this long AND sing so well. She's an athlete for sure. During Blond Ambition, she would run 10 miles a day every day, even on concert days. Gold standard of women's fitness. It's hard to believe that the concerts just get better and better from here. This was an incredible tour in 1985. Blond Ambition pioneered a whole new way for tour to be done, the first time ever using head set mics, blending couture and pop culture, set design and lighting, and story telling. My friend Vince Paterson choreographed it for her. The Like A Virgin to Papa Don't Preach section may be the greatest pop performance of all time by anyone. Vince also did the Express Yourself video for her too. Can't wait to watch that. You are in for some real treats coming up. I'd say there are five or six tours better than this one. And I don't know if anyone mentioned Beastie Boys opened for her on the Virgin Tour. You'd probably like that.

This video is a combination of the Tokyo and Turin shows, the sequenced inseam is from Turin the non sequenced is Japan. This was her first world tour, the first sold out stadium world tour by a female artist and she became the first ever act to sell out multiple nights for the same tour at London's famous Wembey Stadium only 14 other acts have done it since. Also her show in France attacked 130,000 to this day, the largest concert attendance for a single show in Europe. People gave her flaco for charging $35 ($99.89 today) per ticket then the highest ever ticket price. No one thought she'd be able to sell out stadiums even after True Blue became the highest selling album for a woman at that time with 25 million sold. This was the first tour with backup dancers and adding theatrics. She said she had found just standing on stage and singing boring . She started the practice of doing band rehearsals on stationary bikes and treadmills so she'd have stamina to perform. Also by this time she was working out 5-6 days a week, 4 hours a day and eating a macrobiotic vegan diet. On tour when she'd go jogging with her trainer, photogs would be chasing her bikes and people would be running after her. So she did four hours of working out plus her show on show days. Madonna said after the Virgin Tour she felt out of breath on during and after the shows and wanted to make sure she didn't feel that way again and so began the fitness obsession that continues to this day so she'd always give her fans 100% during the shows. She trains harder than a lot of Olympians and professional athletes. I love Madonna’s preEvita vocals. The paintings at the intro are all done by Tamara de Lempicka. Madonna owns the majority of her work. Since 1984 she's been collecting art and is said to have one of the most impressive private art collections which includes the majority of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera’s work. She is credited with popularizing Kahlo. Christopher Finch the kid dancer is now a renowned cheorgrapher. Debra Parsons was on of the background singers and she had provided some background vocals on Madonna's previous works, Donna Delory got the gig because her then boyfriend wrote Change of Heart that Madonna changed into Open Your Heart and he was friends with Patrick Leonard and he convinced Madonna to hire her and Niki Haris was called in last minute to replace a girl who quit. Debra would continue to work off and on with Madonna but Donna and Niki became part of Madonna’s team providing background vocals from Like A Prayer through Music, and do the Blond Ambition World Tour, The Girlie Show and The Drowned World Tour. Niki was fired for doing drugs with Madonna's brother Christopher allegedly and Donna continued touring through the Confessions Tour. Shabba Do choreographed the show after starting in the movie Breaking, which was about break dancing and went on to work with others. The band, including Patrick Leonard, is the same from The Virgin Tour with the addition of Jai Winding at keys and Luis Conte at percussion. Angel Ferreira the third dancer has toured with other acts and has is own recording career. Love the transition of True Blue as a high school prom into Papa Don't Preach implying getting pregnant that night a classic trope and then turning the song into a protest against Jerry Falwell, Pope St John Paul II and Ronald Reagan’s inactions when comes to HIV/AIDS. The activism comes from her Catholic upbringing, living through the race riots in Detroit, her mentor Christopher Flynn taking her to her first gay club when she was 16 and seeing her friends die from AIDS. She was compelled to use her platform for others who needed it. And maybe a little punk rock too. Her paternal grandparents Gaetano and Michelina Ciccone immigranted from Pacentro, Italy in 1919 leaving behind all their family and totally illiterate and unable to speak English and landing in Philadelphia. They had six sons, their youngest Silvo “Tony" would get a degree in mechanical engineering their son to go to college. Serve in the Korean War meet his best friend, Dale Fortin from Bay City Michigan. After the war he moved to the Detroit area and married Dale’s younger sister Madonna. Madonna, his third child with Madonna Sr and eldest daughter, returned to Italy nearly 80 years after her grandparents left as poor immigrants, the most successful female recording artist in history and most famous woman on the planet. Gaetano died before Madonna was born and Michelina died around 1974. Many of her dad's cousins and their children, her second cousins and their children were in attendance at the show, she also met most of them for the first time before the show. Her two youngest full siblings were on this tour. Christopher her gay younger brother who also took dance lessons from Christopher Flynn became a professional dancer before dancing for his sister in her early fame, then became her dresser on her first two tours and later artistic and creative director and interior designer and Melanie the youngest was her pa. Both True Blue and Causing A Commotion are about Sean Penn. The Look of Love is under-appreciated. The Like A Virgin medley is kinda a dig at the critics and Cyndi Lauper.Cyndi and Madonna popped on the mainstream at the same time. Critics thought it would be Cyndi who would have the massive career and Madonna would disappear quickly. They were both nominated for the best new artist at the 84 Grammys and Cyndi won. Also Cyndi didn't change her look between albums and Madonna did and critics said it would be a mistake. The kiss my on her panties was for the critics. And yes Madonna does have an archive she's shown it on Instagram and some of her stuff is on loan at different museums including various hard rock cafes and the smithsonian. The black bustier was on loan at the Fredrick’s of Hollywood museum and was stolen in the LA riots but don't worry she usually has 4-5 copies of the tour costumes made to change as one is worn out or needs repairs or cleaning. The Nazi salute in Material Girl was critic on how the love of money leads to fascism. If you remember on The Virgin Tour she did an interpolation of Billie Jean while performing Like A Virgin? This tour she did an interpolation of The Temptations I Can't Help Myself(Sugarpie Honeybunch) because both Billie Jean and Like A Virgin borrow heavily from the baseline of the song. The guy she kissed was Patrick Leonard her best I think collorabator whom she still writes with on occasion. The No Shame headline came because in the summer of 1985 Playboy and Penthouse had purchased photos from photographers who had used Madonna as a nude model when they were in art school in NYC. Madonna had done the modeling for the art school to make some money while being homeless and trying to make it as a dancer and later music act. The previous year the magazines had done the same thing to Vanesaa Williams who was the first black Miss American and she had to give up her title. Many thought it would tank Madonna’s career. Co-workers at Chrysler brought the magazines to her father at work which caused him to retire and instead of apologizing Madonna said she had nothing to be ashamed about. And her career grew. And the performance of Where’s The Party is about her life in the public eye being chased by the paparazzi. She was the first celebrity really to be hounded by the paps and created the modern celebrity. The Live To Tell performance was about the loneliness of fame. Though Madonna has alluded to what the song is about offering up her relationship with her parents, an abusive relationship with her step mom or a rape and abortion shortly after moving NYC she's never said this so for sure the meaning. She has said it's not up to her to dictate what people should feel, believe or understand what her songs are about but it's own interpretation that is all that matters. It's part of how she's been able to reinterrupt her songs through the years and why they are timeless. The Into The Groove jackets with the dancers and singers having U or a Campbell's soup can on the back and Madonna’s having a dance and a can of soup and u(You Can Dance)on the front were designed by Andy Warhol whom Madonna met and befriended before becoming famous and were one of the last things he did before he died. Probably one of my most favorite performances of hers. She gives it all every performance. Yes she through The Girlie Show has an end and then encores but the encores were always planned to happen she would stop the encores with The Drowned World Tour. La Isla Bonita only hit #4 in the US but was #1 around the world it is her second most performed song behind Holiday and is her most streamed single and most watched video on YouTube. Patrick Leonard originally gave the music to MJ but he turned it down and then Madonna wrote the lyrics inspired by the San Pedro exit on the 405 in Los Angeles and it's melody and harmonies. Even though I love the movie Who's That Girl it bombed but it's theme song hit #1 and the soundtrack hit #8 and then the tour became one of the highest grossing tours of the year with Tina Turner who did more shows grossing more than Madonna. Tina could sell out stadiums all over the world she couldn't in the US but Madonna could and still can. Also between The Virgin Tour and The Drowned World Tour Madonna would do 50 or less shows and most other acts did 100 or more shows. She would get bored doing the same show night after night and she was making so much through sales she didn't need the touring money. After 2003 the amount of sales any artist could do plummeted and she started touring more to make up for the loss in sales. It's her dance training and schooling along with time learning to be a musician at punk bars that makes her such a great performer and why she gives such theatrical shows. She is a performer and performance artist more than anything else. This tour started the tradition of Holiday being the preultimate or last song performed that carried on til the Re-InVention Tour and then done for The Rebel Heart Tour. And most of this show was just her and you don't need anything else but her. When ive seen her live I couldn't take my eyes off of her all the dancers and projection video I didn't notice til I saw the concert videos. I can't think of a modern pop star today who could pull of a show that is just them on stage and pull it off. They don't have the charisma, confidence and stage presence to do it. Great reaction and listen to I'm Breathless before watching The Blond Ambition World Tour from Nice. She believes those who bought tickets deserve the best show no matter which show it is. Madonna never performs the album or radio version of song it's always a brand new arrangement for that show. Into The Groove, Open Your Heart, Look of Love and Holiday are my favorites
