Changing the title of Harry Evans?

Hey, I know this is a bit random, but I've started re-editing Harry Evans, of which the title is actually Memoirs of a well-lived death, a name you've all not seen for a while since I'm way to lazy to ever write it out on Patreon lol, always referring to it as Harry Evans.

Anyway, I realised while reading again that this title doesn't actually represent what I'm trying to do with the story anymore, so I was wondering if you could listen to some of my suggestions.

Here's a little blurp I wrote to describe what I'm actually trying to achieve with the story. Tell me if its accurate.

What to expect from this story: My favorite genre is that of the self-insert. A shameless power-fantasy where someone uses their fore-knowledge and relative maturity to dunk on all others and become the only favored under the heavens. Unfortunately, I am also a writer and reader who loves realism. I dislike plots in which main characters gain a bullshit amount of power too fast. My other pet-peeve, as someone who has touched grass and lost their virginity, is how most of the self-inserts occurring through death simply forget their previous life. Me, personally, I actually have family I talk to and career prospects. If someone suddenly came to me and offered me the ability to reincarnate into a fantasy world of my choice, I probably wouldn't accept, or ask for it to happen in a few years if not decades. Thus, this story is a reflection of something that I myself would like to read. We got over the grief process now in the prologue, and the rest will be a normal Fanfic, although one where power gains will appear natural and plot armor will be minimal. If you're into slow-progression still leading to being overpowered, emotional maturity at the level of at least, a twenty year old, and an imperfect character who makes mistakes as we all do, but still strives to do his best, then this might be a story for you.

Anyway, in regards to this I was maybe thinking that the following titles might fit more. I'm mostly just flinging shit at a wall to see if it'll stick.

-Harry Evans: A realistic progression fantasy

-Reincarnated into Harry Potter, what else to do but become the greatest wizard alive?

Oh no... we just turned it into a harem story. T_T Next, he'll be the magical heir of 13 different ancient and/or noble houses...

I like the original title. If you HAVE to change something, perhaps simply make it 'Harry Evans and the well-lived Death'? But as I said. I don't think you NEED to change it.

Current title is fire. But it was the summary that made me read over on spacebattles. Unfortunately I think changing the title to something else is also changing it to something lesser.

inb4 more dobby chapters

Bruh stop calling us old, I'm crying. Remember reading book 7 on the bus when I went on a school trip when I was 10 years old. I am a young snapping 25 year old with back pain and fucked wrists who might need glasses soon

Hmmm, well, so you're telling my story is unique... I extrapolate from this that I have to make it a bit more generic to reach a wider audience... I see. Slave girl acquisition arc

Newcomers want to read generic isekai. Veterans (and most fanfic readers are veterans) prefer isekai with some unique features.

Gremlin Jack

:crying: but people want to read generic isekai

bor902

Damn everyone seems to like this title actually, makes sense if they're on the patreon I guess. Survivor bias

bor902

The current title is unique and interesting even if it doesn’t encapsulate the story as nicely as you’d like, the two new options just sound like generic isekai fantasy titles 😭

AlphariusOmegonXX

Memoirs of a Well-Lived Death is frankly one of the best titles I've seen for an SI, while there might be better, none of the ones I've seen suggested in these comments seem like an improvement.

I agree with Photon as well. I also think the title 'Memoirs of a Well Lived Death' evokes a more philosophical and mature story which is probably a good draw for older readers that grew up reading Harry Potter as it was being released, myself included.

Harry Evans: The Boy Who Lived (Again) Very punny but has a ring to it

Thanks, glad you enjoy both! Maybe one day the video game one will win you over as well haha

I personally find the current title to be the most interesting; A realistic progression fantasy feels very on the nose, as in it might be what the story is, but hits me as somewhat boring? Might be because the thing that interests me more in the story are the characters interactions and “a well lived death” seems more like the title of a character-driven story. Anyways, 80-smth chapters in I’m definitely way too hooked in this to mind a title change lol, so whatever works for you is fine. As this is my first time commenting, I’d like to say that I love the stuff and the Rattata story too🫶

Smile To The Abyss

I agree with Photon's reasoning, and for me those titles ending in questionmarks are cringeworthy. Ad attracting more readers, maybe put a better description in? because that just assumes that the reader is only looking at the title and then just reads it like a complete simpleton. Which is doing a disservice to your readers if I may say so...

I quite like your argumentation, and I do think Memoirs fits the vibe now that you say it. But, everyone who's started reading it because of that title has already done so, while other stories (perhaps worse written ones) have more followers. I just think it might be time for a chance to get some other people in it as well

bor902

I think that's the one I like the most myself. It's basically what it is. It's a progression fantasy, just that the progression is realistic rather than, "I my first year of Hogwarts, I am the only honoured one"

bor902

Honestly the first title is a bit memey, but I like it

bor902

I feel like Harry evans and how to exploit the wizarding world is good. 'A realistic progression fantasy' is a bit boring for me personally. Also the standard isekai long title is a bit overdone and I am not a fan of.

I'll review the summary later. But for now: I wouldn't have gotten into this story if it was named those two titles. "Memoirs of a Well Lived Death" is fire. Those other two have shitty tropey fanfic writing all over them. Which this fanfic hasn't been. Whereas Memoirs does denote something more unique and original. And I do feel like it represents the story. A Well Lived Death just means this second life, well lived. And well lived, well, he's learning and doing a lot of stuff. I've never felt that it didn't apply. And Memoirs invokes this serious and philosophical theme. Which matches Harry's personality. If you feel like it, it might make sense to call it "Harry Evans: Memoirs of a Well Lived Death".

Green0Photon

"Harry Evans: A realistic progression fantasy" would attract my attention since that's always the type of story I'm looking for. But really it's the synopsis that usually determines whether I read something or not.

BookDragonling

I do like Darkama's second meme title. Harry Evans and How to Exploit the Wizarding World. I feel like it fits how the story is going..

Simplexity

I always liked the Memoirs of a well-lived death. But for short, just Harry Evans works The two suggestions you offer don't really ring well for me. Any suggestions I can come up with feel memeish. Harry Evans and a Guide to Time Management for Fun and Profit Harry Evans and How to Exploit the Wizarding World
