Inevitable

Inevitability is a fickle thing, when you can see into the future.

Once upon a time, Sapphire thought it was inevitable that Homeworld would win the war. Then, she thought it was inevitable that Rose Quartz's memory would live on as one of unfettered positivity and bravery. After that, she thought life would go on in a monotonous but pleasantly peaceful cycle.

Time and time again, her perception of what was inevitable was shattered.

Never, though, had she expected it to happen in such an odd way. Joining Amethyst in her disgusting and gluttonous binges out of utter curiosity, indulging in a way that she not only had never considered but had never seen in her one-track view of the future before her. Every pound she gained made her future vision fuzzier. Made it harder to anticipate her next move.

She lied, made up stories about futures she saw, and most importantly fused into Garnet less and less to maintain the illusion. What was once a constant source of anticipation and planning for the next steps became a louder and louder buzz of static that made it hard to focus. How could she exist without knowing what might come next? Even if it was a flawed guess of the future, it was better than nothing.

So, imagine how surprising it was when her future vision began to return... and she DIDN'T want it.

Because, unfortunately, it only returned as her mobility started to fade. As she had to fight harder and harder to get up from the couch, to waddle and shuffle around. Rooted to the ground with increasing strain and struggle, unable to combat the sheer heft and mass she now carried.

A vision slowly clearing in her head, the static fading like she'd finally found the right channel... but the future laid out before her was dark. A version of herself that was almost mindless, vacant, an empty shell fixated on glutting herself until she was belching back up food. Hair unkempt and frizzy, body coated in sweat and grease.

A vision that seemed inevitable.

Except this time, as she glutted herself in spite of this knowledge, she dreaded that it might just be the kind of inevitable that even a miracle couldn't change.
