Another incredible podcast episode. I knew of James Reid, but I didn’t really know much about him. This conversation gave me such a good perspective on who he is as a person and, more importantly, on his values. I especially loved his view on success.... how it isn’t a fixed definition, but something each person gets to define for themselves. His thoughts on regret also really stood out to me. The idea that if you’re still carrying regrets, maybe it’s worth asking what those regrets are trying to teach you felt both honest and grounding.
It’s funny how life works, because just this morning I tweeted this:
“How do we stay a verb and not become a noun? Choosing movement over stagnation, growth over definition, becoming instead of just being. When something isn’t working, we can’t keep doing the same things and expect different results. But even when we know that, it’s still hard to know what to do differently. Just something to think about.”
So it felt incredibly coincidental when James brought up the lyric from Time “what we’re not changing we choose”. That line is so powerful. We often complain about aspects of our lives we’re unhappy with, wish things were different, or hold onto regrets about the past, yet we don’t always take action to create a new outcome. In that sense, staying the same becomes a choice, even when we want more, want different, WANT change.
Another deeply reflective and thought-provoking podcast episode.
