2 and 3 are classics! Damien: Omen II is a rare coming-of-age horror film. Part III has a great unhinged Sam Neill many years before Event Horizon.

JUst as Psycho ruined showers and Jaws kept people out of the ocean, this film stigmatized any kid named Damian for an entire generation! I saw it in its original run with two friends. One of them was from a Bible Baptist household and was very familiar with the Book of Revelation. She found the movie terrifying. My other friend did not know what the word omen meant and had heard it as O, Men! and thought we were going to see a rom com. She was unpleasantly surprised. It was truely a scary film then and now. Back then film makers understood the way to really scare you was to draw out the suspense and keep you guessing while occasionally throwing in a good jump scare. Loved your reaction to David Warner's decapitation! That was one of the best shots in any horror film ever.

lol yes the skeleton of the jackal was the remains of Damien’s mother. The Beast was born of a beast 😬😬😬also the dogs (the Rottweilers) were hell hounds. Fun reaction 😄👍

It’s interesting they mentioned Rosemary’s Baby. Mia Farrow (who played Rosemary) plays Mrs. Blaylock in the 2006 remake.

I’m so confused!! We did see it was an animal but we thought someone switched the bodies or something! What?!

You know, we read To Kill a Mockingbird in school but I don’t think we watched the film! I just looked up the movie poster and it doesn’t look familiar!

My parents took me to see this movie when I wasn't much older than the kid in it. I still thank them for that.

Fatherhood has totally changed Daniel ,he is a much softer man now.
I had him in a sweepstake for this reaction ,to say ''kill it/kill him'' a total of 11 times ,in reference to Damian ,but it turned out to be zero times ,I will learn from this moving forwards.
Enjoyable reaction.

Director Richard Donner after more than 20 years directing every type of TV show got this movie went on to do "Superman", "The Goonies", all the "Lethal Weapon" movies and many more in his career ! TRIVIA-Had their schedules worked out Donner wanted to reteam up with composer Jerry Goldsmith to do the music for "Superman" , it didn't and he had to use some guy named John Williams.

Also, the score in this film is legendary and won the Oscar for best score. Composed by Jerry Goldsmith who's done so many all-time great films like Planet of The Apes, Chinatown, Alien, Rambo, just to mention a few.
The theme song that you hear in the opening and closing credits, 'Ave Satani' is the iconic song of this film. The Latin lyrics go:
We drink the blood
Raise the body of Satan
Hail, hail Antichrist!
Hail Satan!
Inspiring stuff, isn't it?

As others have said, Damien was born of a jackal. We don't even need to see it, just the thought of a child coming out of a jackal is terrifying.
As for the other films: #2 is decent, we follow Damien as a teenager. #3 is bad, we follow Damien as an adult. I haven't seen #4 but it's universally acknowledged as being bad, it's more of a TV movie. There is also a remake of this one from 2006 but it was never gonna measure up.
The one that I really want you to check out is the prequel that came out earlier this year, 'The First Omen', it's one of the best horror movies of recent times. Really hope you'll give it a view, but I can understand if you're done with Damien and his posse for now LOL.

When Harvey Stephens auditioned for the role of Damien, director Richard Donner encouraged him to attack him to see how fierce he could be and Stephens responded by punching Donner in the nuts which helped him land the role. He only had a couple more acting roles after The Omen but he did make the news again just a few years ago when he was arrested for attacking two cyclists in a road rage incident. I'm guessing the two victims were probably a little freaked when they found out the identity of their attacker.

I think i saw it when i was 12 years old and the scene with the Housekeeper in the Hospital with the Devil Eyes scared me for years ;) It's also crazy that this Film is directed by Richard Donner, who is famous for the Lethal Weapon Films

When Thorn had Damien pinned down getting ready to stab him and Damien said"Please no Daddy.." it made me so uncomfortable thinking how immensely hard it would be to stab a small child, especially one's own. I think the photographer's decapitation was the last straw for him making him fully believe.
When I was a kid watching this movie the decapitation scene really stayed with me, a bit traumatising.

The skeleton in the grave at Megiddo was a jackal, which what the priest tried to tell Mr Thorn "IT'S MOTHER WAS A JA..." before he got interrupted.
Mrs Blaylock was just a satanist, potentially demonically possessed. I always assumed she was an actual demon but one would think she'd have superhuman strength, which leads me to think she was just a satanist. Satanists delve into occult magic which explains perhaps how she seemed to arrange Mrs Thorn's death.

Yes. And I think they have their screen set too dark. They couldn't see the canine skeleton in the grave.

I knew you guys would be uncomfortable with this one. It truly is a scary story. When I first seen it it frightened me for days. Watching it again I found what a tight little script this movie has and it covers all the basic fears of life. Gregory Peck and Lee Remick were excellent. And of course the child that played Damien was perfect casting. I haven’t seen all the sequels but part 2 is good and I enjoyed the prequel that came out earlier this year. Cheers!

A wonderful reaction. Yes, you should watch the next two because they’re not as bad the majority of sequels, they also have some stars in them, and the composer Jerry Goldsmith (Total Recall, Star Trek, Patton, the Planet of the Apes) wrote the score for them as well. He was nominated many times but this film was his only Oscar win.
There is a part 4 but it’s really bad. There was a short lived tv series on Fox and a remake but only of this specific film.
Fun facts: George Lucas was running out of money to make Star Wars, but The Omen was such a hit for Fox that it enabled Lucas to finish his movie.
The director of this movie was Richard Donner. He started out in tv but switched to movies. He directed Superman, The Goonies and the Lethal Weapon franchise.
There’s the shot of the fishbowl crashing on the ground. In order to shoot where Lee Remick lands on the floor, they built a wall that looked exactly like the floor, with all the props nailed to it. Then they placed Remick on a flat dolly and turned her around, making it seem like she was falling.
Lastly, when the priest is talking to the father, he shouts “It’s mother was a ja- !” What he means is that Damien’s mother is a jackal, which is the animal in the first grave they opened.

After listening to Dan’s intro comments, then hearing the creepy music during the opening, I couldn’t help thinking in my best Forrest Gump voice … “Run, Daniel, run!” 😶 In times like these you can be extra thankful that you have a young daughter.

Gregory Peck had a very long and very esteemed career before The Omen, but if you know him from anything prior it might be because you watched To Kill a Mockingbird at some point in your life (high school?). He's also in the original (and superior) Cape Fear and makes a very small cameo in Scorsese's remake.
