Amelie is too good not to watch

bosho11

all teh one's already listed above are great too

Smooticus

Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Kagemusha: the Shadow Warrior, Ran, Ikiru, The Bad Sleep Well, Tokyo Story, Tokyo Dreams, Au revoir Les Enfants, Europa, (and also Europa, Europa), Capitaine Conan, High and Low, Sansho the Bailiff (one of my all-time favorites), Soldier of Orange, The Seventh Seal, Persona, Through a Glass Darkly, Eyes Without a Face, Wild Strawberries, El Mariachi, The Motorcycle Diaries, A Very Long Engagement, Breaker Morant, Strictly Ballroom, Come and See, Life is Beautiful, The Englishman who Went up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain (absolute gem of a movie), The Long Good Friday, The Quiet Game, Mona Lisa,----Jesus, there's too many for me to list lol

Smooticus

LOL my brain went into gridlock with all the recommendations - Plus I thought TBR was in film school, and he'd seen most of the ones off the top of my head already

Smooticus

Yet, no recommendations? :( -Sam

TBR Schmitt

So many movies left off this list...

Smooticus

Not to be confused with Billy Wilder's comedy masterpiece The Apartment, also B&W.

Neal Romanek

Yeowch. You gotta see Crouching Tiger.

Neal Romanek

You should include Downfall (Der Untergang, 2004). It's a masterpiece, one of the best films made about the final days of Hitler. Bruno Ganz portrayal of Hitler is amazing. Equals the achievement of Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln.

Johnny Graterol Guevara

We’re going to do a separate Martial Arts poll 😊 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ooh! We loved Parasite! Thanks for the recommendation! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We haven’t! We had it on here and decided to pull it from the poll so we could do a Martial Arts poll! 😊 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh no 😳 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We have a reaction to Das Boot on the channel already 😊 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

People who have not seen RRR should give it a shot. I went into the film skeptical of the praise but was completely won over by the two leads and the audaciousness of the direction & storytelling. I really had a blast with this one.

BD Williams

1. Europa Europa (1990) 2. Rashoman (1950) 3. Small Change (1976) 4. Das Boot (1981)

Michael Rhine

I gotta recommend the French horror film Martyrs, more disturbing than Hereditary

Ken Veader

Anything with Franka Potente. I love her!

Vwlss Nvwls

Another great foreign film you should consider is Joyeux Noel focusing on the Christmas day ceasefire during WW1 where soldiers on both sides put the war on hold and celebrated Christmas together.

Brian Shipman

Anatomie with Franka Potente

Robert Nichols

One foreign film that is really amazing is The Apartment. There was a Hollywood adaptation of it called Wicker Park. Both movies are good, but the French original (The Apartment) is a bit of a darker film, but it's not dark in a sad, depressing or evil way. The film just explores some of the darker aspects of love. Shot in black and white in a way that really contributes to the film's dark nature. (it's not an old movie, it is a modern film shot in B&W)

Alex

If they have already watched ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ they could try ‘Curse of the Golden Flower’

Mark M

Battle Royale has a great cast and everything, but I really wish it stuck closer to the book. I can't get into it for spoilers, but some of the creative choices had me shaking my head.

Donna Castellano

“Waking Ned Devine” is a great film.

ZoeLo

Rashomon and Throne of Blood would be a great additions in the future.

Arya Amirsoleimani

A Great German Movie for the next Poll is "Das Experiment" from 2000 with Moritz Bleibtreu

Florian Meier

it has to be Amelie, its one of the greatest films of all time - it has more good ideas in 10 minutes than 100 blockbusters put together. a film not on the list, and any list Ive seen is prolly the best film I have seen in the last 10 years - Untouchable ( its french ). Its one of those rare films that is actually a perfect 10/10. I absolutely urge you to watch it, even if you dont put it on a poll put some time apart to view it at some point as it will elate you

Nick Sneddon

Such a good poll! 😄 Amores Perros (2000) Mexico Mondays in the Sun (2002) Spain The Sea Inside (2004) Spain

Domino

Oldboy 100%, but honestly, you're probably still going to want to watch Amélie after as a palate cleanser.

kbobravo

"City of the Lost Children" (1995-French)

Mr. Writhms

His best

Erich Bomke

The Wailing and I Saw The Devil...both great crime thrillers !

ron clint

Memories of Murder. Same director as Parasite and my favorite of his.

Drzergberg

We've seen it! Incredible film -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Is there a reason Parasite is not in contention? Have you two already seen it? If not it should definitely be considered for future polls.

Patrick Clemens

"Incident at Loch Ness" is another one I'd recommend. Although not directed by him, Werner Herzog co-wrote, produced and acted in this mockumentary.

Guston Zimasheen

City of god for me. One of the most unheard-of true stories ever, executed and directed like none other on this list.

Personality house

I strongly recommend the films of Werner Herzog! (Like recommend so strongly that I'm coming close to demanding.) Aguirre, the Wrath of God Fitzcarraldo Stroszek

Michael Buhl

Amelie is amazing. So stylish and creative. One of my all-time favorites. I really hope it wins. City of God is my 2nd choice.

Michael Chavira

THE HOST is a fantastic, recent cult classic. On the same level as another foreign recent cult classic, ATTACK THE BLOCK - 2011. But they are both creature features. And are perfect for an October reaction! Though I realize it's not winning this poll, I still voted for THE HOST. LOL

Gerald Corona

Run Lola Run was one of my first favorite foreign films back in 2000. I'm surprised it's not better remembered.

PIG

Agreed. It's really messed up.

PIG

Yes I have. She did it before most reactors. She thought it was weird, which it is (and why I love it), but she really liked it. I actually like Cinebinge's reaction more only because of Simone, who was more heartfelt than anyone.

PIG

I really love OLD BOY, but, man, can that movie mess up someone.

Philip Davetas

Have you also PiB's/Cassie's reaction to Amelie? One of my favorites she's done

mikethemotormouth

Both excellent choices! 👍

oldcdog

Great list. Please try to find room for the Raid 1+2 on a future foreign, action or martial arts poll

Joseph Tamburo

TBR & Sam: For a future poll, I would like to suggest NIKITA from 1990 & HARD BOILED from 1992. Both films' action choreography were highly influential to what came later in the 90s/2000s in Hollywood. As always, thanks! 🤗

Cody Downs

If you are accepting more recommendations for foreign films, I recommend The Raid 1 and 2. Indonesian martial arts films that are some of the greatest action you will ever see.

EdmanXERO

I wanna see them do Yojimbo so they can see the original Fistful Of Dollars

Sebastian Syrinx

Run Lola Run

Jonathan Patrick

You need some Kurosawa in your life 😉

oldcdog

Again I had to vote for all of these. However some serious classics are missing from this list - Seventh Seal, Sansho the Bailiff, almost everything by Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, Roshemon, Yojimbo, Ran, Ikiru are my recommendations there), Le Samurai (French Suspense flick), Come and See (most horrific war movie ever made), Le Grande Illusion, Au Revior les Enfents, Capitan Conan, 8 1/2...damn, I don't have enough time to list more recommendations - I have to get back to work!

Smooticus

“Amélie” is wonderful, but I absolutely love the under-seen “Run Lola Run,” so it got my vote. For me, the performances, concept, editing, and soundtrack are all just amazing.

Bob Bittner

I JUST watched Cinebinge react to Amelie just 10 minutes ago! Still my favorite romance movie after twenty years of watching it. I still tear up. And Oldboy is still one of my favorite films, though I think Sam would love Amelie much more. The Hunt (2012) might be one of the most important films I’ve seen in a while so I’ll have to keep my vote to that. Either way, great films on this list.

PIG

Based on you seeing the other 3, I went with The Host, because everyone should watch Bong Joon-ho's collection, but Memories of Murder needs to be in the next poll. Not only his best movie, but probably one of the best movies period.

Erich Bomke

Come on patrons, we give them so many dark and disturbing films to watch, let's get the fanciful "Amelie" over the finish line!

Allen S.
