TBR and Sam - you 2 should definitely watch the tv show Ash vs Evil Dead ! ( : ....its 3 seasons ( 30 episodes all together) and the tone and gore is somewhere in between Evil Dead 2 and Army Of Darkness ( the show is more gory and serious than Army Of Darkness, but slightly more goofy than Evil Dead 2)

Interesting you guys picked up on the sound design. Even in the background where the focus is on Ash, you can hear someone in distance make some comedic comment. Ash has the double barrel when he's fighting that witch in his chambers and unloading umpteenth shots but you can still hear him reloading on the soundtrack even if you can't see it during the melee. Oh, man. STRANGER THINGS was all I could think/talk about all week. How about that Eddie Munson?

Like you Dan, I saw this film long before I saw the OG Evil Dead 1 & 2. Despite having no context for what came before I thoroughly enjoyed it at the cinema with my friends, as it is just a fun time and the film making process is something I am fascinated with.

I gotta recommend Prince Of Darkness by John Carpenter, cool horror flick, you guys would recognize a bunch of the cast from other Carpenter movies

I just prefer the theatrical ending because Ash deserved to catch a break after all he'd been through.

If you enjoyed the "trilogy", then you should definitely watch "Ash vs Evil Dead". Lots more lore, all the silly AND all the gore, mixed into three seasons of insanity. And hopefully you'll let us watch it with you.

Still one of my all-time faves. I got to meet Bruce Campbell when I was at UCLA. Really nice guy and super funny. I wish he became the popular superstar I feel that he always deserved to be.

I really don't need shows or movies like this to link up. It's all fun :) No need to make it cohesive.

I prefer the other ending, because the one you describe breaks the connection to the TV show.

I prefer the European ending where Ash take one drop too many and end ups in an apocalyptic future. Sure it's not canon, but that doesn't make the ending worse.

"SWORD BOOOOOOOOOYYY!"
I swear, my friends and I must have watched this 100x when we were teenagers (usually high.) One of the most quotable movies of all time, no doubt! :)

This is my preferable ending, but if you get a chance you should look up the alternate ending, but it's called the original ending on YouTube.
Also, the coworker he is talking to at the end is Ted Raimi, Sam Raimi's brother. He was also the second one to support Ash when Ash was calling to fight the deadites.
The series is a mix of Army of Darkness humor, and Evil Dead blood and gore.

The three words he is meant to say are a direct quote form the old sci-fi move "The Day the Earth Stood Still".

I used to have a Windows theme of Army of Darkness. The starting sound was the scene of him saying the words wrong, and the error sound was the "Well, hello Mr. Fancy Pants!!" :D
I had a lot of the great quotes in that theme, and the background picture was one of the long shots of him standing at the books. :D

I was bored, looking for something to do, then saw an email from TBR Schmitt about Army of Darkness!! I immediately got up and popped some popcorn! :D
I am not certain, but my guess is the changes you see in the beginning from the first two movies were probably to make this a stand alone for those who did not see the Evil Dead movies.

From the very first time I saw "Evil Dead" on the horror poll, I was thinking, "Please win, and please let them watch until Army of Darkness." :D AoD was my intro to the franchise as well, though I saw it in 1996 or 97. What's funny is how early it permeated the culture. Once again, it was ANOTHER production company so they couldn't use prior footage, and the new company didn't want to release a second sequel to a movie they had nothing to do with, so they wouldn't even let them call it "Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness." Back before the internet (or in the real infancy of it) there was no way to get the word out that this was part of that film series, and it was just a bizarre film with almost no ad campaign and no stars and so hardly anyone went to see it. Still, when I bought a new computer in 1995, there were sample sounds in the library that had tidbits of dialog from Blade Runner and Army of Darkness. From the moment I clicked on a file called "BoomST" and heard "This...is my BOOMSTICK!!!" I had to know what that was from. Anyway, glad you guys delved into this world...you now have to continue with "Ash vs Evil Dead." That series waxed and waned in my opinion (I always felt that any time any character OTHER than Ash becomes the focus it's a waste) but I thought it ended on a really strong last few episodes, and even when I thought it wasn't at its best, it's still a fun ride.
