Cop Land (1997) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Cop Land (1997) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

You were confused about Murray's aunt warning him they were going to kill him, because you two were talking to each other over important dialogue in an earlier scene and missed it.

Bobby Salmon

This is a severely edited version of copland. i highly suggest you watch the full version on your own. they cut A LOT of stuff out of this version of the film.

penoyer79

MIDNIGHT RUN is a great movie.

Philip Davetas

Love this Reaction !!! I See Copland in the Cinema 1997 ... Love it!! Can't wait for "Over the Top"

Florian Meier

Narc is another great cop movie staring Ray Liotta (RIP), and Jason Patrick

Ed R

Got it! Thanks!

Donna Castellano

I mean there's really honestly not that much nudity in Boogie Nights. It's a two and a half hour movie about characters and there's much more to it than the subject matter. And they have to start somewhere with PTA and this is probably the place most of us started, though it would be great to see them watch HARD EIGHT as well, especially to celebrate the life of Philip Baker Hall.

Jason Dolan

I'd love to see them react to The Full Monty, Good Will Hunting, Amistad, Donnie Brasco and The Rainmaker. I'd also say Boogie Nights but I don't know how Daniel would get a YouTube edit out of that. 🤣

Donna Castellano

You're right. It's like reactors see what's popular and just jump on that. If I never see someone reacting to Top Gun again, it'll be too soon. Daniel and Sam really keep the picks fresh.

Donna Castellano

That'd be awesome. I've never seen anyone react to it, so that'll be a trip. 😁

Donna Castellano

Awesome movie,I have a link for a full reaction of ARLINGTON ROAD from a different channel if you'd like it

Andrew

Just watched the YT edit as well. Re: Michael Rapaport, he was on an episode or two of FRIENDS. I think season five where Ross and Joey go on a ride along and suddenly there's a backfire, but Joey throws himself in the way of the bullet and Ross was so touched by Joey's chivalry, but in reality, Joey was just trying to save his sandwich.

Philip Davetas

My favorite DeNiro movie

Ken Veader

LOL. I hadn't seen a movie with Grodin in it prior to Midnight Run. I hadn't seen Rosemary's Baby, King Kong or Heaven Can Wait until much later on VHS. MR was my second DeNiro movie after The Untouchables.

Angel Pagan

Just started your reaction but paused to say - I think the Stallone comedy so many of us are recommending that you mistook this for is OSCAR. Highly recommend that for your list. Also, having recently rewatched it, I think ARLINGTON ROAD would be right up Sam's alley, since she loves a mystery/trying to figure things out. It's not Stallone - it's Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins and Joan Cusack, but man, I'd forgotten how good that movie is.

Donna Castellano

That was actually the first Robert De Niro movie I ever saw. I had seen more Charles Grodin movies at that point, haha.

Jason Dolan

Gross Pointe Blank is a hidden gem.

Ed R

Please watch DeNiro in Midnight Run. Great action/comedy also with a great cast: Charles Gordon, Yaphet Kotto, John Ashton, Dennis Farina and Joe Pantoliano.

Angel Pagan

You know what I say to people who don't quote that Robert De Niro reference, Mark? YOU BLEW IT!!!!

Jason Dolan

I don’t know how many minutes of screen time De Niro had but all his scenes were great. Glad I’m not the only one that will always reference ‘You Blew It!!!’😊

Mark M

Kurt Russell thriller ‘Breakdown’ is good as well.

Mark M

1997 Best Picture nominees were: AS GOOD AS IT GETS THE FULL MONTY GOOD WILL HUNTING LA CONFIDENTIAL TITANIC I think LA Confidential stole Cop Land's thunder to a certain degree as the pre-eminent detective noir thriller of the year. You also had: BOOGIE NIGHTS JACKIE BROWN STARHIP TROOPERS THE FIFTH ELEMENT DONNIE BRASCO THE GAME CONTACT MEN IN BLACK FACE/OFF THE RAINMAKER THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE AMISTAD WAG THE DOG AIR FORCE ONE JURASSIC PARK THE LOST WORLD GROSS POINTE BLANK LOST HIGHWAY AUSTIN POWERS and THE ICE STORM Just to name a few... so it was a crowded year between prestige and blockbuster. But while not as lauded, this is definitely a cult hit - and will always be remembered for De Niro's YOU BLEW IT!

Jason Dolan

Nice pick! I enjoy all your reactions, but it seems like everyone's watching the same things lately when there are a million other movies out there to choose from. Really appreciate how you mix it up on your channel.

Mike Minerals

For sure! Total genius to have Stallone play such a timid role.

Mike Minerals

I love this flick. Nothing makes a better movie villain than a cop. It's why TRAINING DAY is so spectacular. Great stage for great actors. This movie shines a light on the recent resurgence of Sundown Towns.

Philip Davetas

The quiet sadness that Stallone plays in Freddy is just outstanding, love this movie.

Christopher B.

Yes !!! Love Ray Liotta in "Unlawful Entry"!!! IT's a Must See

Florian Meier

Nah Nighthawks is THE Stallone film they need to see

Ken Veader

YES!! "Unlawful Entry" is a MUST!!

Joe Lazarus

It's like a switch

Mike Adams

Over the top next, lock up is cool but over the top must come first lol

dieselbeast

You guys might have missed it but around the 48 minute mark Harvey Keitel is on the phone with head of the PDA who’s telling him that the “Superboy” thing and the killing of the two kids is gonna get cleared but Superboy’s body needs to turn up eventually to make it stick. That’s why Rosie was scared for her nephew and tried to warn him. Another great reaction. You guys pick some great films that are often underrated.

oldcdog

Easily my favorite Stallone movie/performance. Never really been a big Stallone fan; but, it really never had anything to do with his acting chops--he's got the chops. Rocky (the original) and this movie prove it. Just never got into the whole over-the-top 80's machismo that he typically churned out. But this movie...Stallone goes head-to-head with Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, and Ray Liotta, and steals the movie with such a soft-spoken, quiet, controlled performance. Love this movie. Great reaction.

Steve Mercier

This might be a bit long, but oh well, I love movies lol, and this was by far my favorite reaction by you guys thus far, it was like being able to watch it for the first time again. I'm one of the geniuses that had been recommending this movie. haha First off yall are correct, EXTREMELY underrated, and mostly doesn't win polls on reaction channels either. Some losers on polls are greater than the winners. COPLAND came out within a month around LA Confidential, another corrupt cop film. At the time Stallone was not taken seriously, for a time he made a bunch of straight action films and he wasnt being respected as the great "Rocky" actor that we know he is, so despite it being a great cast, Sly wasnt being respected by the audiences, even though some critics gave some credit. This role was very important to Stallone, it was being considered for Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Gary Sanise, and Tom Hanks. He wanted the respect back, he turned down 2 other roles for this and gained a lot of weight eating huge pancakes everyday supposedly lol. And he did a phenomenal job where I personally feel he was robbed of at least a nomination. All the actors and actresses agreed to work for scale (industry minimum) bc of the budget. There is also a Directors cut of this film which I own, a couple extra scenes, one I definitely think should have stayed in. I loved that this character did remind me somewhat of Rocky, Freddy was very innocent in a way and my heart breaks for him that he suffers watching his cop friend being married to the woman he loved but also saved her life. How perfect was that scene where she asks him why he never got married? "Because all the good girls were taken" He delivered that line so well, with Bruce Springsteen playing in the background, Stallone killed that role. The music was great too, intense at the right moments, like the top of building scene the tension of the music while cops try to get to Peter Bergs character to save him. I was in awe watching this in theaters on Day 1. And you guys touched on it, the sound work on the gun battle scene was GENIUS, it was like a character of the film, and never got the credit it deserved. This was a masterpiece WESTERN in modern day. When Freddie is walking up to the house in the end after getting his other ear blown out, its a beautiful background shot of the city of New York, great shot, showing that the big bad city where Freddy always wanted to be a cop is right across that river but this epic Western shootout is happening in this small town of him taking down these NY cops, loved the symbolism. You will LOVE this movie even more the 2nd and 3rd time watching and the kind of film you want to share with others. This film is an example of films lost and overlooked, similar to Blown Away (1994) with Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones that got overlooked by Speed, Casualties of War that got overlooked in part bc Michael J Fox was looked at as the comedy actor from the tv show Family Ties and Back to the Future and audiences just didnt care to watch him in a war film, so nobody watched it, but the critics said it was great, its Tarantinos favorite war film of all time and Fox was amazing. Young Guns 1 and 2 seem to get overlooked for Tombstone a lot although the Young Guns films changed the way modern westerns were made. SLEEPERS (1996) another great cast of Brad Pitt, DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Bacon, Minnie Driver the list goes on, totally ignored and underrated, Brad's an attorney but he was probably still too much of a heart throb to be taken seriously Idk bc Se7en did well, but Sleepers is a great film, and a true story. Mainly why Legends of the Fall, a true epic masterpiece was so underrated bc at the time it came out all the media ever talked about was Brad Pitts long hair, rather than the film itself. A great film at that. Rudy gets looked over for I guess funnyy or cooler football films, but Rudy is probably the best movie about chasing your dreams and the closest to a Rocky type triumph film that Ive ever seen, plus its also a true story. Yes I'll always cheerleader for some of these overlooked films lol. These gems. I feel bad for Stallone, he felt Copland hurt him bc they didnt take him seriously. If I ever met him again, I'd tell him its one of my faves. Thanks for the reaction guys. Loved it and will probably watch it again later today. :)

Jonathan Patrick

There's other good Stallones still to come too. Assassins (1993, with Antonio Banderas and Julianne Moore), Victory (1981, with Michael Caine, a surprisingly entertaining WW2 POW story), Daylight (1996, fun disaster story with a nice little cast).

Future Boy

I saw this one time when it was new but that was so long ago this was like another first time. I forgot how good this was, and it made for a great reaction! Stallone and Liotta were great together, and great timing to remember Ray. I'd love to see a reaction to Unlawful Entry (1993), a great little dark and intense thriller starring Kurt Russell and Ray Liotta. I think you would both enjoy it! And it would be another nice little touch for Ray Liotta.

Future Boy

Same. I loved seeing this again with the Schmitt’s. I loved seeing so many cast members that we’ve already seen in other reactions.

Mark M

Such a great movie and performance by everyone, especially Stallone! I've been so excited to watch this with you two, ever since you announced it on your schedule for this week. Thanks again for a great watch along 😊

Ed Garland

Saw this in theaters when it first came out and it still holds up. I'm also surprised it's not more popular.

Jimmie V

Thanks for all you do! 🙂

Jonathan Patrick

Haha we keep it COLD! Well cold for SoCal 😂 Daniel likes it very cool in the house! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I just like to know how cold it is in the Schmitt house? They always have sweaters or jackets on. 🤪

Rick Rodriguez (PicoMan Photography)

Definitely one I've been waiting for, for a while. Next Stallone movies if possible.."Lock Up" and "Over the Top". Now I'm going to enjoy this reaction 🍿👍

Jonathan Patrick

Cannot wait for this one to hit YT ❤️
