It's also in color in the "The whole bloody affair" combo cut of Vol. I and II. Plus the extened "arm chopping" of Sofie (which - I think - also was in the Japanese version?)

Isn't that the movie where Tarantino has a cameo and has Salma Hayek stick her foot in his mouth? So fucking weird lol. I don't get foot fetish people.

she didnt. She was always a personal assassin until after she participated in the massacre. It wasnt until after that she came to Bill and asked if he could help her become the boss of all bosses in the Japanese underground world. The Bride even says it in the movie that Bill helped her achieve that.

Yeah it was going to be NC17 in the States if that scene stayed in color.

I keep wondering how O-Ren went from ruling the Japanese underworld over all the other Yakuza clans to being a personal assassin.

Yes. I have the Japanese release of the Blu-ray and the Crazy 88 fight scene is in color, and there were shots cut from the American release being deemed too violent that were in the Japan release.

The connection between the Bride and O-Ren is very interesting if you think about it.
When the Bride killed Vernita, she did it with the intent of hate. The only thing really stopping her from going all the way to pure malice was Vernita's 4-year-old daughter. Only after seeing her witness the death of Vernita was when the Bride has some regret and sympathy.
However, with O-Ren, the seeds are planted that she and the Bride had some sort of friendship and respect for each other. You can tell when they fought to the death, they didn't want to do this, but they felt they had to. They were obviously very close with each other.
You want more proof?
How else did the Bride know about O-Ren's parents' death at the hands of the Yakuza? BECAUSE O-REN TOLD HER. I don't think the other DVAS members even know that.

I was wondering if they had to go to black and white to keep it movie rating?

The scene in Okinawa was hilarious. Uma was trying not to to laugh all thru the interaction of the two guys.

This is a remote dropper for me. If I ever channel hop and land on this I watch it no matter where it is in the film. Need Pt2 soon.

That guy has got one of the weirdest list of films as a director. How do you go from doing something like From Dusk 'Til Dawn to things like Sharkboy & Lavagirl? That would be like Paul Verhoeven going from Total Recall to Dirty Dancing.

Yes, you should immediately watch vol. 2 as this literally is one movie.

Just saying but you should watch From Dusk Till Dawn. It was directed by Robert Rodriguez, but it was written by and co-stars Tarantino. It was was made in 1996 (between Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown). Rodriguez and Tarantino had another big collaboration with Grindhouse, a double feature event. Rodriguez directed the first half (Planet Terror) and Tarantino the second (Death Proof).
Earl McGraw, the sheriff who investigated the shooting spree, was created for From Dusk Till Dawn.

I love the soundtrack for the first movie so much. I used to blast that on repeat while driving thinking I was cool. Uma Thurman is also great in this role. She's so perfect as The Bride. I also love Lucy Liu. Just all around great cast and performances.

Definitely hoping to see From Dusk Till Dawn too. Even more Tarantino than True Romance, since he wrote it AND stars in it. I haven't seen it in quite a while, but I'm holding off until it appears here!

Cool Easter Egg: during final fight between Uma and Oren Ishi, Oren says that Uma has less than 5 minutes of fight left in her, after dealing with all the others. You can also hear that Japanese water clock clanking in the background during the fight - it measures 60 seconds.
Oren Ishi gets killed just before the water clock clicks 5th time, i.e. just under 5 minutes - pretty cool.
Also, when Uma lands in Tokyo, she walks past the huge posters advertising Red Apples cigarettes - the same brand that Butch (Bruce Willis) was buying at Marcellus' joint after talking to Marcellus about throwing the fight. Pretty cool throwback there

Just finished the reaction. I don't know what it is but I find Sam's reactions so much funnier when she loses all control of her cuss word bank and goes to town and she didn't disappoint today. Hope we'll get to see Volume 2 in the very near future. Happy Memorial Day y'all.

One of Tarantinos biggest influences as a director was Brian DePalma.
Would be cool to see some DePalma films....he also directed the first "Mission Impossible" with Tom Cruise.
"The Untouchables" is currently winning a poll.
"Scarface" (1983) classic crime gangster film
"Carlitos Way" (1993) gangster film, with Al Pacino
"Carrie" (1976) horror/thriller
"Casualties of War" (1989) true Vietnam story. I think is already on your list. 👍

Sorry this was traumatic for Sam. PG-13 The Fugitive will be much easier to take!

If we live in the real world, and movies are at least one step removed from reality, then Kill Bill is probably the furthest Tarantino has gone. I like it, but the dialogue, acting and violence are extremely stylized. I think Jackie Brown is his most grounded movie.

Dusk Till Dawn should also be on the list since it was written by Tarantino

I've been a big fan of Tarantino since I saw Pulp Fiction in the theater when I was in high school. I like almost all of his films, but Kill Bill is the exception. I just never liked it from the first time I saw it.

Planet Terror definitely should be on that list with Death Proof, even though it's not a Quentin Tarantino film they were released together. And both star Rose McGowan and both equally awesome :)

Kill Bill wasn't supposed to have a sequel. It was supposed to be one movie. But it ended up over 3 hours long so they decided to release it as 2 movies versus cutting it down to an acceptable release time.
