Gangs of New York (2002) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Well the only male actor to have 3 Best Actor Oscars. Katherine Hepburn had her three Best Actress Oscars before the end of the '60's. Walter Brennan had 3 Best Supporting Actor Oscars before the end of the '40's. Several other actors/actresses have a mixture of 3 Best/Supporting trophies. Jack Nicholson, Meryl Streep, Ingrid Bergman. Now Frances McDormand has joined KH with 3 Best Actress Oscars.

Mike LL

Please please please watch The Last of the Mohicans

James Willingham III

I couldn't get into The Aviator. I thought Leo gave a great performance, but it didn't really engage me outside of that.

Donna Castellano

Everyone else is mentioning Last of the Mohicans and There Will Be Blood but my favorite DDL movie is In the Name of the Father. Based on a true story about an Irish father and son falsely accused of an IRA bombing in 1970s London. And the song U2 did for that movie is one of my favorite songs EVER.

Donna Castellano

I'm going to toss my dirty top-hat into this and agree with the others who are saying There Will Be Blood. It's a Masterpiece on many levels. Please watch it.

Jack Burton

I'm going to check this out now. I'd forgotten about this movie and meant to watch it but time passed and I'd forgotten. Thanks for the reminder, friend.

Jack Burton

Henry Thomas (E.T.), is from my hometown here in Texas. Another one of his films they actually filmed here in San Antonio when he was a kid is "Cloak and Dagger" lol old 80s cheese but watched the heck out of it growin up. Haha Anyhow my favorite movie with Henry Thomas is in my top 5 movies that I'm dying for you guys to react to. The Brad Pitt/Anthony Hopkins epic, "Legends of the Fall". Henry's best role imo. As I always say, if you're going to react to Legends of the Fall, definitely react to Meet Joe Black soon after bc it reunites Brad and Hopkins. Both great films.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and say that Daniel Day Lewis is amazing in There will be Blood and Lincoln. Two of my favorite movies to just get lost in. His performances are legendary.

Chris W

There Will Be Blood!!!

Drzergberg

nah it wasn't white against black, It was White wasn't really a thing at that point , the cultural divides of Irish etc were deep

Ken Veader

Yall need to watch There will be blood soon..

Shaun2342!

I don't look at it like Bill "murdered" Vallon. They met on an agreed upon field of battle, where one of them was going to die. Bill just happened to come out alive that time. Also, the New York draft riot was basically a race riot, white against black. Besides this film, my favorite Daniel Day Lewis films are: There Will Be Blood, Lincoln, and My Left Foot. This film does get better every re-watch.

Jen Barnes

Living actor, not "working" actor. And... really? Ur gonna call that wrong in the first place.. weird dude

Byron Easley

Everyone keeps sleeping on Phantom Thread when recommending Daniel Day Lewis movies, but they shouldn't! I think it's probably his best performance, even compared to all his other incredible performances.

Christopher B.

I agree although that is technically wrong since he quit acting lol.

Drzergberg

The New York riots were very real. You should take a look.

softshoes

Yeah, I totally agree. I didn't really care for it the first time. But I find new things that I like about it on every re-watch!

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Was gonna suggest the same thing. And everyone just calls him Marty 💯 ur right

Byron Easley

✨Daniel Day Lewis is the greatest living actor of all time.

Byron Easley

THIRD!!!!! "I...DRINK...YOUR...MILKSHAKE!!"

Byron Easley

When you just say his first name, it's actually MARTY, not Martin, lol Also, I had this issue when setting up in a new room - to counteract the echo, you can throw a rug down and if you need to, you can add sound panels to your wall. But overall, the echo isn't that big of a deal.

Jason Dolan

Seconded. In my opinion a better movie than this and even a better performance by Daniel Day Lewis.

PIG

Last of the Mohicans is awesome. Such a great movie. So is In the Name of the Father, The Crucible, There Will Be Blood, and Lincoln. The Age of Innocence is another Martin Scorsese film with Daniel Day-Lewis, but it’s not for everyone, but I like it. They’re worth checking out

Here’s your daily reminder that politicians haven’t changed a bit since this depiction. DDL actually resurrected a “dead” accent for this movie. The man is brilliant and, imo, unmatched when it comes to his range and ability to immerse himself in an accents d character. That last scene gets me every time. It just goes to show that, regardless of what we do in our own individual lives that we deem as important, time will continue to roll on and those deeds will be forgotten. Kind of depressing, but realistic. And in the end, the rivalry between the warring gangs was meaningless when compared to the battle raging around them, so that after the dust settled, it didn’t matter whether the person who died was a native or a foreigner—they were all just New Yorkers. We should all try to remember that today, as well. ❤️ This was great. Can’t go wrong with Leo and DDL, in my opinion. Looking forward to the next one. 😁

SAM: I've never seen a Daniel-Day Lewis Film. GARY: "Last of the Mohicans" and "There Will Be Blood." Let's start there. Great reaction, guys. Always a pleasure.

Gary Giaimo

Tammany Hall was corrupt for way longer than just back in the mid 1800's, they actually fell from grace for the final time after Arnold Rothstein died in 1928.

This was my first time watching the entire movie and I thought it was really good! I studied political science and history in college so I was interested in the political machine stuff as well as the historical context of the riots. Anyway, good movie, good reaction! I hope to see more DDL films because I haven't seen many.

Mohicans!

Ellie Miller

Hilarious bombshells that Sam has never watched a Daniel Day-Lewis film and please freeze frame Sam's face when she realized her husband has never seen E.T.

Ellie Miller

Great Reaction !!! Daniel Day Lewis is a Great Actor !! "There Will Be Blood" is a Must See !! A Great Movie of Leo di Caprio is "This Boys Life" from 1993 with Robert De Niro as Co Star ... Another Good Movie with Cameron Diaz is "Head Above Water" from 1995 with Harvey Keitel and Billy Zane

Florian Meier

Love "Lost of the Mohicans" !!!

Florian Meier

There Will Be Blood! A must watch after this.

matthew

possibly my favorite DDL character, he's had so many tho.

Charlie Keeler

There was too much hype when the movie first came out and it just couldn't live up to it at the time. GONY gets better every subsequent time I watch it. The best story I read was that Daniel Day-Lewis listened to Eminem before filming scenes to get him in the right mood.

Ellie Miller

hallelujah!

matthew

Daniel Day Lewis carried this movie

f hf

Lincoln as well. Daniel Day Lewis is the best actor of all time, it is too bad he didn't do more movies.

Stephen King

Bill the Butcher was based on a real person but he died long before the New York City draft riots depicted in the movie. The real Bill the Butcher was named William Poole and he died in March of 1855, the draft riots took place July 11th to July 16th, 1863. The Battle of Gettysburg had ended only 8 days before and 211 miles South West of New York City. Not everyone in the north agreed with the Civil War or the need for it. So Bill throwing the dagger at the poster of Lincoln would not be unbelievable to have happened. Definitely one of the Scorsese's best, Daniel Day Lewis best as well, DiCaprio should have won an Oscar for this performance long before he won it for the revenant. Last of the Mohicans, There Will Be Blood, and The Crucible are also in the top of Daniel Day Lewis' work. Oh yeah and Lincoln won him his 3rd Best Actor Oscar, the only person to have that many. DiCaprio and Scorsese have done several movies together, this being their first together, then The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island and finally Wolf of Wall Street.

vicious tyler

Crossover movie with Bill 'The Butcher' Cutting going head to head with Daniel Plainview with DDL obviously playing both roles, who says no?

Jay

Been meaning to rewatch this movie for a long time, so excited for this!

Jay

Daniel Day Lewis best... "There Will Be Blood" "Last of the Mohicans" (Michael Mann)
