Dirty Dancing (1987) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Dirty Dancing (1987) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

I'm pretty sure I watched this reaction when you guys first put it up. I must have just forgotten to comment. This reaction was fantastic, Dan and Sam. Dan, your reaction to the lift was great. And Sam's giggle fest had me laughing so hard my stomach hurt by the end of it. So good. Like some others here, I'd love to see a reaction to Ghost. More Swayze at his finest with a great story.

Raven Dark

Agree 100% with Ghost!

Raven Dark

TBR and Sam - if you haven't seen them, you absolutely have to watch and react to 3 other Patrick Sayzee movies - 'Ghost' (1990), the original 'Red Dawn' (1984), and the original 'Point Break' (1991)....all 3 movies are great and highly recommended

Derin Argon

I'm aware. It was a gag in response to TBR's surprise that Baby's name was Frances.

softshoes

Sam is actually both. For males, it's short for Samuel, and for girls, it's short for Samantha. Sometimes either can just be called Sam.

Raven Dark

Gratch....Terry Goodkind Ref?

MIke

When we were kids my sister and I watched this movie over and over again. Once at the very end when the Dad goes to talk to Johnny just as he opened his mouth my sister said "Good luck in medical school kid" and we died laughing. Now to this day every time I watch the movie I hear my sister imitating Jerry Orbach.

Gratch... just Gratch

I carried a watermelon and nobody puts Baby in a corner are to iconic lines.

Jason Mangen

Kenny Ortega the Choreographer from Dirty Dancing to Highschool Musical

Jason Mangen

The main takeaway I got from this is "YOU HAVEN"T SEEN FOOTLOOSE?!?!?!?!" Ha. Great reaction vid!

TGrimace

The bloopers at the end were hilarious!

Mark M

While we're on the subject of dance movies...Saturday Night Fever is THE dance movie. I'd also highly recommend Magic Mike. Yes, it's a movie about male strippers, but it's actually a really good movie. Footloose and Flashdance of course are must-see dance movies, but Saturday Night Fever definitely tops the list.

Gary Giaimo

Definitely Point Break and Road House. I'd like to add Red Dawn to the mix, where he pre-unites with Jennifer Grey again.

Gary Giaimo

check out Movies That Made Us on Netflix. The first episode is the story of how this movie almost didn't get made. All sorts of obstacles and not much budget. Really interesting story. Lots of other stories of famous movies in that series too.

Opie Wan

I went to see this movie 6 times when it came out :P

esclad

would be nice if they can tackle some Kurosawa at some point.

Birdie Num Num

Point Break is a must see. Great movie. Would love to see your reaction to it.😊

Stephanie

Sam(boys name btw) has a cousin named Frank? You have a great laugh Sam.

softshoes

Yes, i love both reactions this week ;) I'm Sure you guys watch in the next months "Ghost" on the Channel, and you will love it !! Another Great Patrick Swayze Film is "Point Break" From 1991 with Keanu Reeves as Co Star ...It is already on your Watchlist !! Another Great Dance Movie with a Great Soundtrack is "Greace" from 1978 with John Travolta !! Super Iconic !!

Florian Meier

Finally got to see this reaction. Made my eyes water. These classics I grew up with so it reminds me of my family. So iconic some of these scenes. Always loved the scene where all three are dancing together. With the song playing, it's just movie magic and sadly I just don't see that in today's movies. This was great. As others have said Swayze was a dancer and also a martial artist. One of the good guys we lost. The Outsiders, Point Break and Ghost are my other faves of his. Sam, if you love romantic movies (I know I mentioned this before) yall really gotta watch "Meet Joe Black" with Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins. But I would recommend reacting to "Legends of the Fall" first bc it also stars Pitt and Hopkins and it came before Meet Joe Black. Both are GREAT films. You will love them both. Their chemistry is amazing.

Jonathan Patrick

"Billy is played by the infamous sergeant major Sixta from Generation Kill" Daaamn, now that you mention it, I can totally see it. But I never in a million years would have even guessed that I knew that guy. Fun! :)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

This was a great reaction. I have watched with my wife, who usually rolls her eyes when I'm watching reactions, but she kinda likes you guys, so she gave it a go with Dirty Dancing and she'd loved it. There's plenty of trivia in the comments, so I'll add something often overlooked: Johnny's cousin Billy is played by Neal Jones, also known as the infamous sergeant major Sixta from Generation Kill. Ever since I have learned this, I can't unsee him in DD. So here you go, now it's in your head too 🤪 Shame it was not the first time Sam watching, but Dan made it up for me - especially with Frances bit and the "Sam lost it" blooper 😂

David Lengyel

I was about to recommend that. The documentary is great, so +1 from me.

David Lengyel

That's my wife's hobby to remind me every single time that he sang this song for the movie. She obviously didn't miss the chance to tell me during the watch-along, lol.

David Lengyel

This movie came out when I was 16 and my best friend and I saw it in the theater multiple times. Once we both bought VHS copies, we watched it almost every weekend. "I carried a watermelon" is the best line. Oh, you really should watch Road House.

Jen Barnes

Love this reaction. I also grew up watching this, albeit the “edited for television” version. Johnny’s frustration during the dance rehearsal sequences, especially when Baby is laughing from being tickled, was real. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey had worked together on another movie and didn’t really get along well and they had to hash it out on set. I second the other comment that y’all need to check out this episode of “Movies That Made Us” on Netflix. It’s fascinating.

Aimee

Just throwing out a random idea here but maybe you guys could do a Foreign Film poll sometime in the future? I think most of my favourite films since the year 2000 have all been foreign - e.g., Y Tu Mama Tambien (Mexico), Once (Ireland), A Prophet (France). Most people haven't seen 'em and they're soooooooooooooo good! ;) edit: And Amelie (France)!

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Yes! Loved that part haha daniel was a critic for real! years of being stuck in the bleachers at dance competitions will do that to you! 😂 Yes, loved the little thumbs dance haha thanks for the suggestions! I was obsessed with Moulin Rouge growing up haha I probably still have it memorized! LaLaLand we’ve both seen, and loved! Haven’t seen Once though -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Patsy Swayze (his mother) was the choreographer for "Urban Cowboy". Lisa Niemi, who would become his wife, was a Dance Instructor on it as well.

Miles E Coburn

Swayze also was the choreographer on "Urban Cowboy"" another John Travolta film. I think Travolta is another actor whose films you need to check out. "Saturday Night Fever" is definitely one and "Staying Alive" the sequel was directed by none other than Sly Stallone.

Jeff Mills

Oh no way!! Need to look that up! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Hahahaha sweaty Swayze 😂 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha yes Robby! Lol we’ll definitely need to get some more Swayze on the schedule 😊 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

😂😂 that’s the perfect comparison to Princess Bride! I never knew that about Swayze! I have some music videos I need to watch haha -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Our goal is get a week ahead! So you’d get the episodes 1 week before YouTube 😊 We’re slowly making our way there! We will get Cobra Kai episodes 7&8 up this week, just not today -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Great movie and great reaction! Also Sam during the movie, And the blooper at the end, where she is just losing it and cant stop laughing at Daniel was priceless!! I'm nit trying to bash anyone's name, I myself hate My iqn name, but Sams reaction to Daniel and explaining to him how thats a girls name was just very funny. Thanks again for the great Movie reaction as well as the laughs😄😊

Ed Garland

Sam, you and Dan HAVE to watch The Movies That Made Us Episode of DIRTY DANCING on Netflix. It will answer so many questions for you about this movie!

Jason Dolan

"Sit down, Jake." The mom is only in the movie for 2 seconds but I think she steals the entire thing with that 1 line :) I love this movie so much and that was such a great reaction! The outtake was hilarious and Dan's harshness managed to reach never-before-imagined peaks: Baby after her first performance gets a "That was brutal!" but Lisa's rehearsal gets a only-half-sarcastic "Perfect."?!? Lol. Btw, Baby's impromptu dance moves, with the thumbs, when she fails to go for the lift during the first performance, has gotta be the 2nd best moment of the film :) edit: If y'all were thinking of doing some more musical/dancing/love stories, I'd certainly throw some suggestions into the box (although you may have seen 'em already): Moulin Rouge, La La Land, Once (no dancing in that one tho).

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Patrick Swayze also sings the song She's Like the Wind in this movie.

Renee S

The tagline for this movie should’ve been: “Sweaty Swayze will make you go crazy” 😆 if not, the soundtrack is great! 👍🏼

WhitneyG

Great fun, as always. I dedicate this reaction to Robby "Swayze" Keene, who was named after another of my 80s heroes! There has to be more Swayze! Road House, Point Break, and Ghost are the big three. Consider how much Daniel enjoyed Johnny beating the crap out of Robbie. Imagine a whole movie of that and you pretty much have Road House.

Future Boy

His wife of 34 years (12 of those years before Dirty Dancing) was also a dancer/teacher/choreographer, and it definitely shows!

Future Boy

No lie, when Dan said, “What is this?” when Johnny and Baby were beginning their “love scene”, I had a flashback to “The Princess Bride” when Fred Savage asks his grandfather, “Is this a kissing book?” To answer your question, yes Patrick Swayze has a background in dance. He was in Michael Jackson’s video for “Beat It”. He was one of the gang members. Also, in “Urban Cowboy” (1980) his mother was listed as the choreographer and Lisa Niemi (his wife – although I don’t know if they were married at the time) was listed as “Dance Instructor”. The song over the scene where Johnny is leaving, “She’s Like The Wind”, Patrick Swayze wrote it for the “Grandview U.S.A.” (1984) soundtrack, but it wasn’t used. He’s also the vocalist on that song, and it rose to # 3 on the Billboard Top 100 Chart and # 1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart.

Miles E Coburn

We post videos when they are ready. We are trying to get them uploaded to Patreon in advance of YouTube. If a video is not uploaded to Patreon it is because of variety of reasons such as 1) We haven't recorded our reaction yet 2) We haven't finished editing our reaction yet 3) It hasn't finished exporting and uploading yet.

TBR Schmitt

You guys just post the videos whenever on here as long as it’s before the scheduled YouTube debut? So because we got those two other Cobra Kai episodes super earlier we won’t get any today? I am confused lmao

Jonathon Dragovan

Oh awesome! Thanks for sharing! He does an incredible job, so makes sense 😊 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I live that movie. And yeah Patrick Swayze has a dancing background. His mother had a dance school. He is basically a professional dancer. He can be seen in the auditions at the beginning of Staying Alive.

Yann Laliberté

Aww love that! Thank you, Faron :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

This movie reminds me of my cousins back in El Paso. I miss them. Thanks for reacting to this movie!
