Comedy Movie Poll!

Help pick the Comedy movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen Happy Gilmore & In Bruges, so this would only be Sam's first time reaction.

*We received a ton suggestions on the last polls, but we are trying to keep the poll sizes more reasonable. We have noted all suggestions for future polls!

Comments

Yes !! Love Jack Nicholson in this Movie

Florian Meier

I believe they did Clue recently, but great film.

AliBabaGhanouj

As Good As It Gets!

Gino Padula

I suggest Clue from 1985, Airplane from 1980, and Time Bandits from 1981.

Shane Wood

Florian, films have been made before the 60’s.

Catherine LW

And the opinion of the American Film Institute. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Catherine LW

I love 80s movies since I came up on'em, but I went with Happy Gilmore on this one.

Jah (jakwiq) (Jah Quick)

Great Dark Comedy for future poll.... "The Babysitter" 2017

Tim R

No sex please - we're British (1973)

christopher brown

Some Like it Hot is number one in the AFI list of greatest American comedies. Sad that it’s doing so poorly.

Catherine LW

I also have to suggest The Out-of-Towners (1970) with Jack Lemmon. Not that horrible remake.

Scott Kerr

I still love it, Classic

Ken Veader

Why has there never been a reaction to Monty Python "The Meaning of Life"? We know you love Monty Python. This would be amazing

TGrimace

Holy crap. YES!!!!

TGrimace

Please add "This Is Spinal Tap" to your comedy queue. Great classic comedy.

iliketostayhome

Oh man, I forgot to suggest Kung Fu Hustle (2004).

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

In Bruges is the best movie on this list, and it isn't close.

Nerd Going Outside

Coen Brothers films are a bit too subtle?

David Martin

50 first dates is an all round good movie, quite touching too.

Aaron Barlow

That one's hilarious, for sure!

Logan Kerlee

I Think it would be a very good Idea if there werde polls for decades ... One Poll only for 60's Films, one poll only for 70's films and so on .... maybe you can do an Poll Only for Clint Eastwood or Robert de Niro movies ...

Florian Meier

Ok I agree of all the Adam Sandler films Happy Gilmore deserves a spot but how in the world is it beating out Raising Arizona??

A great one to add to the comedy list: There's Something About Mary.

Neal Romanek

And could be watched in honor of director Ivan Reitman, who just passed (and brought us Ghostbusters)

Neal Romanek

Duck Soup is one of my absolute favorites.

Neal Romanek

They're all good movies on this list. Happy Gilmore wouldn't be my top pick, but it's still very very funny.

Neal Romanek

And Spinal Tap would make 3 Rob Reiner movies on the channel (after Princess Bride and Misery)

Neal Romanek

Darn good list. In the absence of The Jerk, and knowing that Raising Arizona is getting the support it deserves, I'm going with Some Like It Hot.

Neal Romanek

Duck Soup (1933). Marx Brothers. One of the funniest comedies ever made.

Mike LL

still worth a watch imo especially if they haven't seen it

MIke

Yeah, definitely avoid the edited version of Adventures in Babysitting. Most of my favourite parts are completely cut out. One with a use of the F word, one with an edgy sexual joke from one of the boys to Elisabeth Shue, and a handful of little things, usually innuendos (it looks like the version on Amazon has all the good stuff left in).

Future Boy

Sandler gets a lot of stick these days but his movies, especially earlier ones are good. BTW, Watch Dodgeball and the Waterboy.

Aaron Barlow

Has nothing to do with being offensive, the jokes just don't land like they did in 1980

Smooticus

They can't watch it on Disney+ because they edited the "offensive" stuff out of it. I know that movie back and forth. I got the urge to watch it one night and saw it was on D+ (since I was already on the app). Pop it on and it comes to the point where Brad calls Thor a certain word to annoy Sara... Yeah, changed that bit. I had to just buy it on Amazon Prime.

Donna Castellano

The greatest era for film was mid 60’s to 1981. After 1981 it turned bad

Gino Padula

Great name! I can hear Loyds voice saying it too haha. And yup, man, I wanted Shue to be my babysitter 🤣

Jonathan Patrick

Sam, the “Golden Age” of Hollywood is arguably from 1915-1963. And some of the best films made were from the 30’s-40’s.

Catherine LW

Jay, I call it temporal chauvinism.

Catherine LW

I watch them both once a year without fail, brilliantly hilarious and feel good movies

Duncan

I never thought I'd see Adventures in Babysitting on a poll, but now that I have I've been teased enough that I'll be devastated if if never comes up on the schedule! I still think it's a genuinely funny and entertaining film, and the chemistry between the kids is great (and yes, another boyhood crush on Elisabeth Shue here...)

Future Boy

I love The War of the Roses!

Future Boy

In Bruge is the best movie on this list but not the best comedy. I would say it's more of a dramady.

Drzergberg

The Full Monty (1997) As Good As It Gets (1997) Nothing To Lose (1997)

Domino

I voted Adventures in Babysitting. I love that movie. My two recommendations are Grumpy Old Men, and its sequel, Grumpier Old Men. Both are super funny.

Raven Dark

I goin in on stripes!! how can you not vote for Bill Murray!!

MIke

It was kind of jarring to see In Bruges on a list of comedies with Stripes, Caddyshack, and Happy Gilmore. lol Pretty much every film on the list is worth a watch but In Bruges is a black comedy, a bit melancholy, genuinely great, and I can't not vote for that.

JayWantsACat

Recency bias?

JayWantsACat

YUP.

JayWantsACat

A 60s film just won our War Poll :) But I hear you! Next month I'll be sure to do an older poll. What year should be the cutoff? -Sam

TBR Schmitt

AGREED!!

Joe Lazarus

I wish you’d poll older movies separately because they don’t have a chance due to temporal chauvinism.

Catherine LW

Fixed

Smooticus

No h in their name #justsayin

mikethemotormouth

You tell em Duder

mikethemotormouth

The Baby Ruth?

mikethemotormouth

And so quotable too!

mikethemotormouth

They watched Fargo ... Hudsucker is Great !!

Florian Meier

I'm certainly all for more Coen brothers films. But, I have to say, I think Raising Arizona would be last on my recommendation list for them :( Gotta put Burn After Reading, Fargo, and Hudsucker Proxy ahead of Arizona! That being said, I do recognize how popular RA is.

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

True but I had to claim her here 🤣🤣 Her in Cocktail, Adventures and Karate Kid...😍 That beautiful blonde 80s hair. Ha

Jonathan Patrick

Who did not love Elisabeth Shue back then???

Yann Laliberté

Raising Arizona is Absolute Gold! Win or lose, you two need to watch it!

Rudy Hernandez

Third...

Mr. Writhms

I second Analyze This.

Armchair Rizzard

I'm fine with Happy Gilmore winning, because i do love it, but Adventures in Babsitting is underrated.

Armchair Rizzard

Yeah? Well, that's just like, uh, your opinion man. 😉🤣

Victor Fiegel

I voted Adventures in Babysitting, Elizabeth Shue was my crush big time lol. For future comedies, there are some funny mobster comedies, Analyze This (Deniro, Billy Crystal), Mickey Blue Eyes (Hugh Grant), and Oscar (Sylvester Stallone). Actually , Midnight Run is a good one too, with Deniro and Charles Grodin (comedy action).

Jonathan Patrick

Yes, War of the Roses!

Jonathan Patrick

Ummm Some Like it Hot is one of the great comedies of all-time! 😀

Michael Soukup

Duncan

I'm pushing Raising Arizona just so you can continue your Coen Brothers experience

Smooticus

I watched Caddyshack a few months back. It hasn't aged too well in some places

Smooticus

Raising Arizona is easily the funniest movie on the list. In Bruges is the only one that can compete in terms of quality.

Victor Fiegel

I understand the Sandler love, but have you guys seen Raising Arizona. This movie rules!

BD Williams

There’s a Jaws reference in Caddyshack that has to be seen to be believed! 🤣🤣

Rick Trujillo

Happy Gilmore all the way!

bernthe23

For Future Comedy Polls i have These Three Danny de Vito Movies: "Ruthless People" from 1986 !! Cult Comedy from the 80's with Bette Midler as Co Star, "Throw Mommy from the Train" from 1987 with Billy Crystal as Co Star !! CLASSIC Oscar Nominated Comedy !!! And at least " The War of the Roses" from 1989 with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner as Co Star !!! Very Dark Comedy !!! All 3 Are Great

Florian Meier

Fair point, swapped my vote to In Bruges.

Logan Kerlee

Y’all are the greatest movie reviewers on YouTube ever! Keep up the awesome work y’all two!! Love y’all so much!!

Matthew Cope

Happy Gilmore is like Dumb and Dumber. You have a few laughs but it’s not up to par with Caddyshack; Stripes; In Bruges or Spinal Tap.

Gino Padula

In Bruges' is definitely a fave of mine - but it's going up against Happy Gilmore and I've ALWAYS thought that was funny. Watched it many years ago when it was first released and laughed up a storm. I'm hoping that Sam has a great time with it as well. :)

Logan Kerlee

Ya'll that are hating on Happy Gilmore.. come on! You know that he movie's funny and Sam hasn't watched it yet. It's a movie that is VERY much worth a watch. It has my vote and I hope that it wins.

Logan Kerlee

Agree. In Bruges should be on the list over Happy Gilmore

Gino Padula

Animal House too

Gino Padula

Wow! Forgot that one. In Bruges is awesome

Gino Padula

This man is obviously very intelligent and cultured. We should listen to him, I think :)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Not really sad. More a reflection of the demographics of the viewers, i.e. a younger audience.

Miles E Coburn

You guys. If you haven't seen In Bruges, you're in for a treat! Happy Gilmore can win a poll anytime... let's give In Bruges a try!!

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

If happy Gilmore wins that is a sad commentary

Gino Padula

Spinal Tap!!!! The greatest. So iconic It’s preserved in the National Film Registry

Gino Padula

It's great to see Adventures In Babysitting in a poll! I loved it as a kid, and I still find it great fun today. Now that it's on your radar, I hope you choose to watch it one day!

Future Boy

Raising Arizona, Raising Arizona, Raising Arizona!

Garry L

WHAT!?!? TOO many "youngsters" voting for sure...gotta go Caddyshack at some point, HAPPY Gilmore will win this easily I'm sure. (Stircrazy is a sleeper...Adventures in Babysitting is abguily pleasure)

AC Malin

Have you guys seen Liar Liar? Jim Carrey at his comedic peak. Put it on the next poll if you haven't. The 40-year Old Virgin is another personal fav of mine.

Shehab Dawoud

In Bruges wont win bc its not as popular but man is it an amazing movie Not just comedy but a lot of emotion and drama and i think you guys would love it

Sebastian Syrinx

The Great Outdoors
