Hereditary (2018) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Hereditary (2018) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

My theater was laughing through most of it. It's a reaction I wholly agreed with.

Ron Moses

When I saw this in theaters my god people were going wild, great experience though.

Jella Jellobean

Speaking of a new pair of headphones, I hope you got deliverance...er...I mean delivery on time. jk

Guston Zimasheen

lol

Alex

No, they do not have to watch The Human Centipede.

Neal Romanek

No. You don't tell someone who's just seen Hereditary to "Watch Deliverance". Do you want to put them in the hospital? Watch something soothing and positive - maybe Field Of Dreams or Big or Parenthood.

Neal Romanek

Yeah, this movie makes it completely impossible to do normal things like go into the attic or take out the garbage at night or, like, be alone for more than 15 seconds.

Neal Romanek

It really does get you though. Toni Collette (and us, the audience) have been through so much that we're willing to just say yes to any ray of sunshine - which I guess is that vulnerability that the demon devil guy preys on.

Neal Romanek

It's not as nerveshattering as Hereditary but, yeah, wait until October.

Neal Romanek

@Angel: Thank you! I didn't even notice her there (at 1:47). I went back and looked! It's so faint, if you don't focus your eyes, you will miss her up there (or even if your brightness setting is a hint too dark). DAMN that's like a creepy game of "Where's Waldo". No wonder they held that shot for so long. They were waiting for us to notice her. 😮

Mr. Writhms

Yes! Burt Reynolds, Jon Voight, Ned Beatty and Ronny Cox. A great film!

Mike Tocci

Human Centipede would definitely make for an interesting reaction. I think it could be a lot of fun

Mike Tocci

That was one of the weirdest scenes with her in the corner when he discovers the dad. She's like spider-man, er. woman lol. Guy at my old parkour gym, his profile picture is kind of like that, with him on the corner of a wall lookin like Spider-Man lol

Alex

So, I think your brightness is set very low. I know Dan mentioned many dark corners but there were no reactions to 2 specific scenes. 1) at the 1:47 mark when Peter wakes up, Annie is already in the room behind his right shoulder. She's up in the corner similar to when he discovers his dads burned body downstairs. After that is when you see her float by behind him. 2) at the 1:54 mark, after Peter runs up to the attic and Annie stops banging her head, Peter gets up. Behind his right shoulder is a naked person standing there. I know you won't revisit the movie but you should go back to those 2 scenes and re-adjust your brightness. Those scenes aren't supposed to jump out at you but be visible enough to have you question if you're really seeing what you think you are. :)

Angel Pagan

Everytime you cover your eyes I'm always checking to see if you're peaking through between your fingers. ;p;

Alex

You guys gotta watch The Human Centipede.

Alex

Great reaction! I think Sam’s headphones broke for a reason. 😂The style reminded me of “The Shining” with the slow build and constant eerie music and camera movement. “…The scariest movie in existence”? No, but it was very well done. A good horror film leaves you thinking about it sometime after it's over. This one stuck with me for a bit. *clicking tongue sound* 😮😁

Mr. Writhms

Thank you! It turned out to be a pretty funny reaction, but the worst during! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL and it just kept getting worse! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

haha I'm proud of you too! I hope you didn't have too many nightmares! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh wow! That's a bummer!! I think this film was incredibly well done even though I hated the experience haha -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Okay is relative lol I did have nightmares! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha thank you! New pair are on the way! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I've added it to the list but I'm going to need a lot of time between these films haha -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I'm dying to know what you thought about it! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Added to the list! I feel like we need a foreign film poll! It's been awhile! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I'm going to need a longggggg break! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thank you so much, Violet! Definitely nightmare fuel! Glad you could watch a long with us :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Terrible judge of character on that one! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL there definitely won't be a second time for me! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha! I borrowed some temporary ones while I wait for my new ones to come in! Midsommar will probably need to wait awhile if we do it! I had literal nightmares after this one :( -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh boy, THAT was a good one! :D

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

I love how at 35:29 "That didn't happen did it?" TBR with "It absolutely did." Sam: "I don't think I want to watch this anymore."

Alex

I'm proud of myself i was able to watch all of it i don't normally watch horror. now I'm off to sleep with horrifying dreams probably😅

David B

I hope Sam was OK after watching this. It is one of the more disturbing 'mainstream' movies out there. Definitely not for everyone.

Joel P

watch DELIVERANCE

dw

Crowdfunding for new Headset for Sam:)

I love this film (and Midsommar) and think Aster is a filmmaking genius. But this film kind of got screwed by the marketing and early reviews saying it's the scariest film of all time (or of the past X years). So audiences went in with something like The Conjuring in mind and left somewhat disappointed because it's not that type of film. So the reviews kind of suffered. It's was originally written as a film about familial abuse and trauma that evolved as Aster kept working on it that he then added supernatural and horror elements. Which, to me, makes sense with how horrible abuse, grief, and trauma can be because can feel supernaturally horrible. Like, the father isn't the good one in this. His abuse is neglect or absence. With all that's happening he barely involves himself. Midsommar is about a breakup and finding family but also has horror aspects to it, sticking to the film being grounded in something real. And the way the whole scene with the telephone pole and Peter is genius. Just holding on him the entire time.

JayWantsACat

got an Aussie awesome

James Bate

I remember seeing this movie at the movies when it came out it was really disturbing movie lol 😂 you guys should check out the Australian horror movie called The Babadook (2014) I think its just as disturbing as Hereditary

MeatPie

This will be a first time watch. I've never seen this movie because as a long-time horror fan, I figured it was a lot of hype from people not used to watching horror. One critic said this is "...the scariest movie in existence." Okay, okay... I'll see about that once and for all. I don't scare easily so... To be fair, I'll judge by how many times Sam hides her face. 😁

Mr. Writhms

If I could make a suggestion for a South Korean horror film, you guys may want to check out The Wailing.

Pakky P.

great reaction. His second film Midsommar is next right?

matthew

Yeah if I wasn't watching the reaction I would have turned this off too. but mostly that's coz I was tired. omg it's 5am here.

Alex

Man that was so boring but the last 30 minutes well.. like It's two hours.. It's about 10 minutes during the last quarter of the movie when they show the books and the King guy.. It got really good there for ten minutes then it got boring again. I think there was too much effort on like drawing everything out and being artsy. The story apparently is really cool but man execution was just so bad. The sound design though was top notch. But yeah here's some advice.. Never read any kind of phrases that you find that are written in a foreign language without knowing what you're reciting. Just don't do that. It's not good practice.

Alex

Against my better judgement I watched this full reaction instead of going to bed, ahh. Never seen this film in full and I'm happy (no not happy, I guess relieved?!) that I watched it with y'all. I don't think I could have finished this otherwise! Your conversations post-show are always a treat, and this time it brought me back to a grounded, calm state. Oh and the abridged version's now on Youtube! Cheers guys ^-^

Victoria Y

That's a straight up "Thank you for your service, Samantha" Not sure if we will ever get your Midsommar Reaction - maybe wait a while - I don't think it is as bad as Hereditary, but it's pretty bad, lol - phenomenal filmmaking, but true terror.

Jason Dolan

Sam, on meeting Joan : "What a sweet lady..." Me : O_o

Thomas Yanez

Fun fact, my buddy shot this movie, as well as Midsommar. And Ann Dowd who played Joan was in my other buddy's movie MASS. Both phenomenal films.

Jason Dolan

I'll never watch this movie again. And I say that every time I watch it. Great reaction! :)

Allen S.

Somebody, for the love of the Almighty, send Sam some new headphones!
