Dexter: New Blood Episode 6 'Too Many Tuna Sandwiches' Full TV Reaction!!

Huh. I've been trying to post about confidentiality in therapy when it comes to murder, but I can't seem to post it. Maybe it will show up? EDIT - doesn't seem to show up, so I'll post it here: So, you asked about confidentiality in therapy. I'm a psychotherapist in the US, and (ok, this is gonna get weird, as this is an imaginary "what if" scenario), but if Dexter was my patient, and he admitted to being a serial killer to me, first I would have to assess to the best of my ability if I believe if he is going to kill again (obviously I'd also have to assess the reality of the situation - I've had delusional patients tell me all sorts of wild things). Basically, (and this is a generality) unless the person is a danger to themselves or others right now or moving forward, I am required to keep confidentiality. However, if they are harming or have harmed children, elderly, or disabled people, that is required to be reported. Generally, unless I believe there is intent to harm moving forward, or children, elderly, or disabled are involved, I can't report it. I believe the main rationality behind this is that, divulging this type of information to authorities would basically prevent people from seeking therapy in the first place, and prevent people from seeking help. Also I've seen the argument that if someone committed murder, and therapy is preventing them from doing it again, that's another rationale for not being allowed to divulge it. Basically there is some leeway and professional discretion, but generally speaking, even if there is an active investigation (for example someone was involved in a hit and run that resulted in death and admitted it to you), if in your professional judgement there is no current or immediate danger to the patient or anyone else, you really can't break confidentiality. Now, in the case of a serial killer, it gets dicey because, do serial killers ever really stop? I would suspect that a serial killer is never really considered "retired". My immediate instinct aside from asking the serial killer the point of therapy in the first place would be to seek ethical guidance from colleagues and the state or national board, and I'd probably look for a way to refer this person out if nothing was actually reportable, because treating a serial killer I can safely say is beyond my scope of practice. Since serial killers don't really "stop", I'd need ethical guidance, my assessment of his current mental state and intent isn't enough for me myself to be comfortable, I'd need some further professional opinion. I'd suspect that a very recent murder or a serial killer would likely fall under more flexible reporting rules depending on the situation. Even with the multiple paragraphs I've written this is a simplification, but it outlines the basic idea. As a clinician who works mainly with people in and who have been through the criminal justice system, I did have a patient who admitted to an unsolved murder two decades prior, and since in my judgement there was no current danger to the patient or anyone around him, I had to keep confidentiality, and was comfortable doing so.

I know! We were so far behind last week and this week! We've been trying to watch on Sunday when they come out and Daniel edits that night so we can put it up on Monday (the full length), but it's been a busy time with work and the holidays but after this week, it should go back to that schedule, I hope! Thanks for being here with us for the ride! We're loving having Dexter back! -Sam

You guys NEED to upload these sooner! xD This show is why I sub to you guys and it drives me crazy needing to wait until the night before a new episode to watch the most recent bit of the show. Super digging on this show and both of your reactions to this. Looking forward to future episodes. I'll be enjoying the next one tonight. Hope to see your reaction to it soon.

I loved the scene with Dexter , Kurt and Molly in Kurts cabin basement. It felt like Dexter was his old self being in the presence of another killer but playing oblivious and that line of "you want me to shut the door" was great.

Finally! Haha
