Starship Troopers (1997) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Starship Troopers (1997) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Maybe one day we'll get a good adaptation of the book that shows off the true mobile infantry. And accurate bugs. They are a technologically advanced civilization in the book and their soldiers fight with guns

Reed James

I watched this for the first time back in 1998 or 1999. That means that I was 10 or 11 years old. Whoa, man! This movie takes me back and I had SO MUCH FUN watching this. Such a great ride. :) Watching this made me feel very happy and positive. Yeah, violence, gore and death.. but the memories I have involving this movie are all positive. Thank you so much for choosing to watch this one! It's a big time fave for me. :)

Logan Kerlee

Holy flashback!

James Willingham III

In the book dizzy is a dude. No females allowed in the C.A.P. trooper program. He was rocking Carmen all day

Sean Clonch

Holy crap. That sounds bad ass. Too expensive for the time though. These days we could do it!

James Willingham III

Another gem with him is SPACE HUNTER

James Willingham III

Yep. Carmen's the girl you love to hate!

James Willingham III

"Shut up, Carmen" haha

James Willingham III

ive watched this movie more time's then i can count since i was a kid till now also its almost impossible to find these days but another lost relic from this franchise is the old Kid's yes kids cartoon starship troopers roughnecks chronicles fit fleshed out the characters more then the movie.

SBJ2117

The song playing during the fight scene is "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star.

Philthemovieguy

I'm not a fan of Starship Troopers, it always seems like the worst episode of Melrose Place set in space... BUT... your reaction was epic and I enjoyed every second of seeing it again through your eyes.

Jen Barnes

Michael Ironside

Mike Tocci

Haha thank you! We're tearing through these films, I think watching them so close to each other helps :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Truth! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

The completely ignored the scientists! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Gerald, a reaction to The Forever War or Ender's Game? :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Wow thanks for the background, Sean! It seems the movie strayed very far from the book it was based on! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thanks, Ian! -sam

TBR Schmitt

I don't know if we'll be able to swing a 4th of July special, but I've added to the list! :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

True that

James Willingham III

You guys are both absolute machines at spotting actors/actresses,no matter how small a role or how much younger they were πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Andrew

I said it walking out of the theater in 1997, and I'll say it again now. They killed off the wrong girl.

MotoDork

Tippet is a legend in the field. Mad Dreams and Monsters is a 2019 documentary about his career and is worth seeking out for anyone interested in behind the scenes movie magic. Tippet did some great stuff like the ED-209 in Robocop, the AT-ATs and Tauntauns in The Empire Strikes Back and a host of other cool models in classic films.

Mike Tocci

I'm glad to see at least one person mention Robert Heinlein, the writer of the novel this film is based on. It's important to give credit where it's due and Heinlein is one of the most legendary writers in the pantheon of science fiction.

Mike Tocci

Another great war in space novel was The Forever War (1974) by Joe Haldeman. I hope they make a movie out of this some day. And let's not forget Ender's Game which has been made into a movie. TBR, you guys should consider doing a reaction to that one.

Gerald Corona

That's Jake Busey, Gary buses son

Mike keith

I love how nobody on the ground actually uses the "scientist's" method for killing the bugs quickly. "This cameraman is fearless!" rofl

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Awesome review, but the movie is crap due to it straying so far from the book. In the book there is no drop ships, they put you in your fighting power armor, lock you in a capsule, then shoot you out of a torpedo tube. Once you clear the atmosphere the cap breaks open and you parachute in. Everyone has nukes and there's no little rifles, but everyone has 20mm autocannon. The author is Robert Heinlin and he was a Navy Captain that worked on the Manhattan project. It was written in the late 50s. On a side note, Carmen's ship was the Rodger Young, an Army soldier killed on Guadalcanal who was awarded the medal of honor. (Definitely worth researching). You guys are awesome, keep up the food work. One more thing, the teacher was Jester, one of the instructors from Top Gun.

Sean Clonch

That was so much fun guys πŸ˜€ my favourite moment "do you want to know more?" you both in unison "NO WE DON'T!" lol brilliant πŸ˜‚

Ian

With the 4th of July holiday coming up, you should definitely consider reacting to The Patriot (Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger).

David Crabtree

"shutup Carmen" . Amen, brother, Amen.

Matthew

Can't believe we missed him! Oh good call! I am working on polls right now, should be up tomorrow :) I'm a bit late this month! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Absolutely! The not-so-underlying themes of the film. Verhoeven did it again with this one! Oh how funny! We totally missed the timing of it. Thanks for sharing! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

So cool!! I never really thought about the trailers that were airing with these in theaters. That's awesome! Trailers are TBR's favorite part of going to the theater! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I didn't put that together until editing and then it dawned on me! Hahahah Aimee your comment had me cracking up! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We totally didn't even it recognize him from Total Recall! Rookie move. We loved it all! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thanks, Jason! -sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha I didn't see it, but TBR Schmitt knew right away! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh interesting! A master of puppets for sure! It looked incredible and still holds up so well. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

YAY! Thanks for waiting to watch it with us :) We hope you enjoyed it! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Speaking of MICHAEL IRONSIDE.... cannot WAIT for you both to watch TOP GUN -- I guess I need to go check your War Movie Polls for that one

Jason Dolan

Michael Ironside was in TOTAL RECALL as well

Jason Dolan

The political theme that surrounded the movie was based on a satirical view of a global fascist government, hence the propaganda "commercials". The military costumes were designed after Nazi uniforms and the whole citizen/civilian aspect are other examples. Also, The movie is set in the late 23rd Century. At the dance in the beginning, one of the songs that plays has lyrics that mention the century. Great reaction!!

Zach Greenleaf

I remember seeing the trailer for Starship Troopers when I went to see the Special Edition release of Star Wars in 1997 and the audience cheered like crazy for it. We were all hyped up for Star Wars anyway. haha

Mr. Writhms

Ooo, good point. What a self-righteous bitch. πŸ˜†

Aimee

I always hated Carmen in this movie. Did you notice after she changed their flight plan they get hit by that meteor and lose communication and cant warn earth about it, their home gets wiped out. She put them in the path of it, If she hadn't been so full of herself and left it alone they probably would have still detected it and been able to stop it.

Christopher Plucinski

You saw Irons in Total Recall. He was the main guy hunting Arnold :) I like this movie and the usual tint of caricature propaganda/news that Verhoeven does. And the characters are all very likable. Even Carmen. Yeah, she was bad for Rico, but she was still a bad ass pilot and still a friend (especially as they lost their families in BA). The CGI looked cool for 1997 and even now :D Although i think i appreciate the non fighting scenes more now. The character and friendship building.

wroot

Been waiting all week for this one - can't wait to see your reactions!

Jason Dolan

The actor that looks like Gary Busey is Jake Busey, his son. Good eye! 😁

Mr. Writhms

Classic movie. Phil Tippet's company did the CGI for this movie. The same guys who did other classic 'puppet' movies like The Blob(remake) and Team America: World Police, Not to mention Robocop, Star Wars, and Jurassic Park. The "What are you doing, movie?" podcast(now defunct) did the commentary for this movie, and Trey Stokes(one of it's members) actually was the animation director for StarShip at Tippet Studios.

Mike keith

Yay! I’ve been resisting the itch to watch Starship Troopers all week for this!
