True Lies (1994) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

James Cameron's 1989 special effects science fiction extravaganza The Abyss: Special Edition makes a glorious return to physical media with a brand new deluxe 14-Disc 4K Ultra SD Laserdisc set on July 4th, 2023. Will believe it when I see it.

A HD version exists but I've a feeling JC will do a proper 4k release of all his big movies; we know The Abyss and Titanic are coming in 2023; the latter is being re-released in theaters

To this day this movie is still not available on Blu-ray except for a bad Spanish version. For some reason James Cameron has waited and waited to get this film (and The Abyss) put on Blu-ray despite the demand for it. Some people say it's because hes been working on the Avatar sequels but I don't see why that would stop Cameron from taking a day or so to sit in a room and supervise a two hour movie being put on a different format. This film is also unavailable to stream anymore on iTunes, Amazon, or just about anywhere else. People love this movie and yet it's like Cameron just wants to avoid it altogether.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but not only did Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold do some of their own stunts, but in the scene where Curtis is hanging in the air from the copter with Arnold, that was really her. There was no stunt double. I'm not sure if Arnold did his own as well there, or if he had a double, but I know Curtis did not. If you get a few minutes, check this out. This aired the year True Lies came out. I think you'd get a kick out of it. LOL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daCvqHZMTto Great reaction as always, guys. So glad you loved this movie as much as I did.

This movie is so fantastic. I saw it in the theater in 1994 when I was 12, and I never get tired of it. The only part I have a hard time with is Eliza Dushku trying to escape the bad guy and hanging from the crane, but it’s because my oldest daughter is 14 and I do too much projecting. Lol I absolutely love y’all’s reaction. I just found your YouTube channel and after watching a couple of y’all’s reactions I had to become a Patron. So fun. Thanks, y’all. 😄

And "Twins".

Another comedic movie with Arnold... Kindergarten Cop :D

Awesome reaction. I loveeee True Lies. Two unfortunate reasons we never got a sequel: It came out the summer of '94 - the summer of Keanu Reeves and SPEED, which obliterated at the box office. True Lies would later become very popular on video and cable however. Still crazy considering that Terminator 2 was a stratospheric hit a few years earlier and starred Schwarzenegger who was the most bankable leading man at that time. But go figure. And secondly, when Cameron and the cast did decide to finally get a screenplay together and start pre-production on a sequel, 9/11 happened....so understandably Cameron felt that it was the worst time in history to do a comedic action film involving terrorism. Just bad luck.

This is definitely one of my favorites. If you take any individual action set-piece and put it in another action movie, that set-piece alone would elevate even a modest movie. In this movie, there are maybe 8(?) of those. The only one which felt like more of an homage was the opening sequence down the snowy hill. Many variations of this have been done in the Bond franchise. I, too, wish there was a sequel. Unfortunately, James Cameron said that it didn't feel appropriate to make an action-comedy centered on global terrorism after 9/11. Also, after TL1, he was busy with Titanic then Avatar. And, Arnold was busy with a bunch of other action movies (including a several returns to the Terminator franchise). There is some good news though. A True Lies 2 TV series pilot is in the works at CBS from Matt Nix (Burn Notice), McG (Terminator: Salvation (aka T4) and Charlie's Angels 2), and Cameron. https://deadline.com/2021/02/true-lies-tv-series-cbs-pilot-order-matt-nix-mcg-james-cameron-1234691906/ So, maybe Cameron changed his mind? Or, maybe he felt like enough time has passed? Or, maybe it was simply a lot of money for not a lot of effort (since he probably won't be writing or directing).
