Blithe didn't die like it says in 1948, I have no idea why they haven't gone back and corrected that in anyway. He actually was shot through the collar bone and actually died in 1967 after having a perforated ulcer. He saw the sniper and instead of shooting him he yelled bang bang bang like they were trained to do and the sniper shot him.
