Classic action movie. There was a real oil shipment shortage in Australia in the 70s around the time George Miller and Byron Kennedy conceived the idea of Mad Max. Food, water, clothing and electricity were effected and Miller, who worked as an emergency doctor in Victoria during that time, says that within one month people were already panicking and gang pillaging was already taking place in small towns and within Melbourne city, and he witnessed the violent outcome. My parents who lived in New South Wales can attest to this, too. It was a scary little moment in our history. But just thinking about that carrying on for years, and the bizarre reality of this movie isn't that unbelievable. I especially love the creative decision to turn the motorcycle gangs into semi-resembling Medievil vikings. Gangs are already threatening, but when they dominate the land they'd be completely tribal and barbaric. Beyond Thunderdome and Fury Road, (especially Thunderdome) sort of glamorize the reality of a lawless post-apocalyptic world, whereas I feel the first and second films don't.

I wont lie. MMFR is my favorite but I feel like all 4 movies are different enough that I easily love them all for their own reasons!

I was fortunate enough to see the second film first. The original MM is just ok to me. The intensity and dystopian setting are definitely dialed up to 11 for MM2. MMBT has an ever so slight dip in story telling. Then, of course, there is MMFR. I thought I would be disappointed (with so much time in between and a new actor) but I was wrong. So incredibly wrong.
