I can't believe I've never seen them react to this after these years. Great horror movie. One of my favorites.

My interpretation is that he got stabbed in Vietnam, the doctor said "man he really put up a fight," like holding on to his life, but finally died in peace. The two hours of the movie was basically his internal struggle of not wanting to die, missing his son, fantasizing about what a life could've been after the way, but at the same time it was bad (Jez was like a demon there to kind of keep him stuck) and he was very troubled because he can't pretend he isn't dying. Then finally he reflected on his son, and losing him, and then he was able to move on in peace.

The movie lead you away from it but the chiropractor says it all. “If you're frightened of dying *stabbed* and you're holding on, you'll see devils *demons, Jez* tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth.” It is definitely better with repeat viewing.
