Top AEW Talent May Be In A Contract Year

Fightful Select has learned that a number of staff, wrestlers and higher ups in believe that former AEW World Champion Mariah May is in a contract year. Specifically, those that we’ve spoken to in AEW believe that her deal is up in the Summer. We’ve not learned if there are any option years attached to it, but one source in the company said they would be shocked if there weren’t as a deal this short is uncharacteristic for the push May got.
We’re told AEW is looking to retain her, regardless.
Word of May’s contract status has spread within AEW in recent weeks, following her AEW World Title loss to Toni Storm at AEW Revolution.
Fightful has reached out to Mariah May and reps, but they did not have comment. AEW does not comment on the contract status’ of talent.

I appreciate Mariah being called former “AEW World Champion”. I wish AEW would start doing that. Or call Moxley the AEW Men’s World Champion.

If she signed to WWE, she would be sent to NXT and I think it would be some time before she had a chance at a real push. I think AEW will offer more and she is just 26, at the end of her next deal, she might be in a position to command more money and to enter WWE on the main roster.

The motivations of professional wrestlers are often multifaceted and not entirely clear to us. It's also important to recognize that women's contracts are increasing, and exploring opportunities in the competitive landscape can be quite appealing. Her signing with WWE is a possibility
