Details Behind Numerous WWE releases

A number of WWE releases took place on February 27.

We're told the calls were made right around the start of Smackdown and have learned more on the cuts.

AOP came into WWE with a bit of heat throughout the industry due to some of their outside projects. One of which saw a few people in wrestling put money in, and were upset they didn't get back. One person in WWE said that could be a reason they were put with Karrion Kross who is generally well liked. AOP had been adamant that Paul Ellering join the company with them when they were re-signed. They were actually under contract a number of months before reappearing. Many in the company saw it as a rough omen when they were hardly on TV with Kross. There were no creative plans for AOP and Ellering following the Wyatts.

Sonya Deville's contract is expiring and will not be renewed.
She will be eligible for free agency upon it expiring, which we're told is in a number of weeks.

Cedric Alexander was released and will be a free agent in 90 days. AEW sources expected several within the Hurt Syndicate to push for him.

Blair Davenport was released. We're told there have not been creative plans for her since her call-up until the last few weeks. She is expected to have global interest from many companies.

We're told that internal rosters were not adjusted as of Friday night. Last time there were releases, the company waited until a few days later.

Sad when the company gets Hot! And making money, you get the boot.

Chris Cobb

She was called up last year.

Laquita Momon

I can see Bea back in Japan. Sonya, not sure honestly and AOP i don't care lol

Chocobo_Sage

From what i had heard from people that knew the two, it was an amicable split and both are pretty much married to others now (ospreay not officially but talks like he is lol) so i dont see any issues

Tyler Buuck

That's awful for Blair but I can't say I'm not anticipating the return of Bea Priestly

Tempo1337

It’s crazy to call someone up and not have plans for them. AOP and Ellering could have been something especially when the tag division could’ve used them. Shocking to see Sonya released. I hope they all find a new destination.

Wulf

Sonya being released is shocking to me. I am not gonna make assumptions but wow…

Jake Starr

Bea Priestley back in AEW please

Peter

Blair would be good back in AEW if she's comfortable working in the same company as Osprey (her ex)

Flameducky

Nooo not the pride fighter!! This SUCKS man.

weremound

Sonya no... ;u;

Sometimes it's not just a money thing. If they have nothing for these talents, it's better to let them go find work elsewhere where they can do more. It sucks to lose your main source of income but it also sucks to sit around and do nothing in an industry built on training and bettering yourself. I'm not saying it doesn't suck, I'm just saying that it's better to look at the big picture and to not kneejerk.

Arthur from Natural 9

They signed Blair for NXT UK and then had nothing for her after that shut down... it took a lifetime to even get her on NXT and then she got hurt

Rob Iapicca

Why shocked this wwe tradition for about 5 years now. They call em up to make a 5 second draft moment and then fire them because they never once had a plan for them

david gardner

They do this every year. It is a WWE tradition. They draft the one NXT person to main roster. Knowing dang well they have nothing for them. They can’t resist that draft moment of making a NXT wrestler shocked and cry. The tears really are from the fact they know in 6 months they will carry on the tradition of being on show once and then unemployed

david gardner

Because there wasn't time room for her anymore on NXT.

Samantha L. Sayre

Blair wasn't even given a chance. She had a good run in Stardom. I can see her going back there. Maybe even a return to AEW.

Alex

WHY THE HELL DID THEY EVEN CALL BLAIR UP???

Brandon

I think the one that pisses me most off is Blair because they could have left her in NXT

Laquita Momon

Wow

Richard Kujawa

Blair not even getting a chance is incredibly frustrating in all this, especially as the introduce a secondary championship in which someone like Blair could do something and build the division beyond four people

Kyle Cotton

Was it a recent call up? I know it's what they did to Dijak when they planned to let his contract expire

LostRhino

Kiana has a leg injury. Plus did a boob job in the meantime

Osuman Massaquoi

Do you think TNA woukd be more or less likely to hire released WWE wrestlers considering their working relationship?

Dragmire

Kiana had a legit injury but I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t have plans for her regardless

ARose Lab

I feel bad for Bea/Blair here. Very Vince thing to do by calling her up without plans and then firing her.

thenumber9door

Hopefully they're done releasing people tonight. Can't wait for everyone to prove WWE wrong and kick butt elsewhere

Jason Allonby

They did the same thing with Kiana James. I can't remember the last time she was on tv.

Leron Ford

Makes no sense to have them beat the Wyatts if you're just gonna release most of the team

Mohamed Saffee

Sad news whenever people loose their jobs. I take it from this post, the cuts are at least done for now.

February 27th?!

ProdigalGeek

They do this to one or two people every year. It is a WWE tradition. Call someone up and take a huge dump on their career

david gardner

They did both Indi and Blair dirty ☹️

Dorian Lecter

Its like Jim Cornettr once said, surely if creative cant come up with ideas then tney should be the ones getting fired?

Nick Mason

🤦🏾‍♂️

Mannie Conish III

I hate this company…after telling us all the money they are making and then this

Matthew Hooks

They released Blair? Wtf??

Sheila Antonio

So why did they call Blair up if they had no creative plans for her, that makes no sense to me.
