Mark WIP ('Why Mark Doesn't Have a Beard')
Added 2017-10-17 03:22:38 +0000 UTCSigh, I wish I could make these faster. I've been sitting on this one since September, but I intend to finish it tonight/tomorrow. I like the joke here even though it commits the greatest sin of storytelling, IMO, which is being self-referential. I'd normally want every Mark comic to be able to make sense on its own, when judged in a vacuum by someone unfamiliar with my work. This kind of works I guess, since I give you all the info you need. Mark is half-dwarf, he has only come to learn this recently, he wants to grow a beard, and true to dwarves, he can grow a full beard in a matter of days (he always shaved so he never noticed). Cadence doesn't like it though, and Mark cares more about pussy than his tradition. Although . . . should I keep the beard? They are fun to draw, but I don't find them to be sexy. I think they look funny and neat, which is why I like dwarves, but not sexy.

Just imagine how funny it would be if he met Fergus MacCreag and his father disowns him for not having a beard. Mark can drink, fight, and fuck like a dwarf, but no beard? That'd be funny.

Over all, I agree that we have enough information to get the joke without having seen previous comics. Which I think hits a nice middle ground between your principles and having a fun call back.
