• For those asking about an update on Miro, AEW had hoped that they'd get Miro back in the spring, but the injury was behind schedule.

• Darby Allin got snuck into the building last week so word of his appearance and return wouldn't leak.

• Fightful noted that there were still several matches to be announced for AEW Double or Nothing. Among those we've heard considered are Trent vs. Orange Cassidy, Bang Bang Scissor Gang vs. Death Triangle, and a Chris Jericho match. That can always change.

• Internal claims from MLW were 2,116 in attendance for their Chicago show. It also touted their most merch sales ever by units sold and transactions. The action figure wave 1 has also sold well for them.

Kid Lykos

Fightful’s Corey Brennan spoke with Progress World Champion Kid Lykos ahead of Super Strong Style 16 and his title defense vs Mark Haskins on May 27th.

Lykos said working with Atlantis over the weekend was “real fun” and feels like there is faith in him to have consistently good matches with Mexican talent coming in.

He said that he sometimes misses the anonymity of wrestling under a mask, something he only started doing 6 months ago, but something he will continue to get used to in the foreseeable future.

Lykos noted that winning the Progress World Title without his mask meant everything for him, and feels it was also very special for the fans. Lykos thinks that Mark Haskins has revisionist history from last years Super Strong Style event and can only blame himself for Nigel McGuinness’ intervention in their match in the finals of last years tournament. Says Haskins can continue to say McGuinness is why he lost last year, but he will be aiming for a repeat this year when he defends his title against Haskins. Lykos also stated that the night he won the title was his favorite memory of his reign so far.

Lykos feels like winning the tournament was the beginning of him proving he belongs as a singles star, and advised the talent in this years tournament to not underestimate the power of the fans' support in the building during their matches. When asked about possibly facing Kid Lykos II for the world title if Lykos II wins the tournament this year, the Progress World Champion stated that he’d like to see how he matches up with his best friend as an opponent. He also predicted Lykos II to win the whole tournament.

In response to Tate Mayfairs’ idea of becoming a double champion, Lykos said he’d love to go to TNT Wrestling and challenge for Tate’s title. Lykos also pointed to Rey Mysterio and Alex Shelley as his main influences in wrestling but also pointed to influence on his tag team wrestling from Brian Kendrick and Paul London. He also stated his belief he’s always been in the right shoes to be a singles star, but people have only started paying attention to what he’s wearing recently.

Touching on Mad Kurt, Lykos first noted that every memory of Kurt is a fun memory and said that putting together Mad Kurt Forever in March was real special and that it was therapeutic for those who were close with Kurt. Lykos hopes that Kurt would have been proud of the silliness of the event and that it was amazing to honor his friend.

Lykos confirmed he had interest in competing in Defy more following their merger with Progress wrestling, touching on a possible match with Kenta in the future. He also noted that wrestling Nick Wayne was real fun, and that Wayne has tons of potential.

Lykos expressed his surprise that he has never faced Michael Oku one on one, crediting Oku with stepping into Will Ospreay’s position in the British wrestling scene. Lykos hopes that he can have the match with Oku this year, and also hopes to be involved with AEW All In later this year. Lykos also noted his belief he could step into the ring with Will Ospreay and feel like he belongs. He also noted that he would like to face Connor Mills in the near future.

While interested in possibly being involved in NXT Europe, Lykos is focused on the now. He also talked about how he was one of the few original stars Progress had left in the wake of NXT UK’s launch, and felt he had to step up for the fans to have a familiar face.

Lykos noted that a big goal for him in 2024 and the beginning of 2025 is to return to Ireland for an OTT event. While talking about his previous injury troubles, Lykos expressed his contentment with staying healthy, and not losing his momentum due to being hurt.

Lykos noted that Super Strong Style 16 is a special tournament that helps showcase the best talent the UK has to offer. He noted that some of his goals in the second half of 2024 is to head back to Japan for an excursion and and progress his standing within RevPro.
