Sexy armor/clothes in video-games and comics have always been one of my favorite aspects of fantasy design. I don't care that they're not practical or realistic. 'Fantasy' shouldn't be about 'realism,' which is probably why I'm not a big fan of George RR Martin. I'm amused by how militant some people against skimpy armor, or about the inclusion of any fantasy in Fantasy.
That said, I'm very turned off by any of the justifications of "Oh, skimpy armor makes them more mobile," or "it's to distract the opponent." Skimpy armor exists because it is fun to look at and fantasize about, which is kind of the whole point of fantasy. Again, Fantasy > Realism.
