So I plan on spending my free time this month getting back into Mark the Adventurer, and trying to get him back to basics. I've dug up a bunch of sketches and jokes I've never gotten around to finishing, and I'm pretty happy with some of them. I really want to just have Mark be a stereotypical barbarian in some sort of generic fantasy situation. No story or background needed. No specific setting. Just a super generic fantasy world.
This drawing here is just a quick concept sketch, just to get the feeling of how I want Mark to look in my head. For one thing, I'd really like to get a sort of Boris Vellejo type style of clothing into the comics. Metal bikinis, thongs, skimpy chains and loincloths, and even some 1980s hairstyles. Cadence is here just to give me an idea of what she'd look like in this style, although I don't know how often she'll be showing up. Striving for simplicity means less reoccurring characters.
One thing I'm ret-conning is Mark's height. Since the beginning, I've drawn Mark as average height, making him just as tall a Cadence. Now that I'm sure I want him to be a half-dwarf, I'm going to really reinforce how short he is. I'm thinking like 4'8" or 4'10". Him being a half-dwarf isn't something I'll necessarily bring up a lot, but it's something I like. I like dwarves. One of my regrets was not making him a dwarf in the first place.
