More on CM Punk/Collision/Hangman/Nemeth

We’ve now heard stories from many sides of the AEW Collision/CM Punk/removal situation.

As highlighted on August 13, Ryan Nemeth was brought into North Carolina before the tapings, before he was promptly sent home. We’ve learned more about the words that they had recently. According to those familiar with the situation, Punk approached Nemeth when the two were at the Chicago Dynamite, where Punk was asked to be at. Punk spoke to Nemeth and asked him to make good on his “literally the softest man alive” tweet. The two moved out of the locker room and into a hallway, where those close to Punk claim that Nemeth said he was working to get heat. Punk believed that the tweet was Nemeth trying to score points with his friends, and asked him to knock it off because “tensions were high and they were trying to move on.” He said that he didn’t want Nemeth being passive aggressive unless they were handling it another way.

People close to Punk claim that Nemeth apologized, and that the two shook hands.

It was confirmed to us that Punk didn’t want Nemeth on Collision, even eating in catering, much less wrestling on the show. It wasn’t clarified to us if that was because of his tweet, or the relationship with the Elite. In addition, Nick Hausman of Haus of Wrestling reported that the reason Christopher Daniels was kept from Collision because Ace Steel, CM Punk’s friend, is not allowed at Collision. Punk didn’t see that as fair, as Daniels was also involved in breaking up the Brawl Out fight last September.

We’ve made an effort to reach out to Nemeth, but he’s off of social media.

We have confirmed that Hangman Page was around this past weekend for a pre-tape, but we haven’t confirmed he was at the building and asked to leave. Wrestling Observer reported that Page was told they’d need to do the pre-tape away from the arena. After the show, Punk cut a promo taking shots at Hangman Page, which Haus of Wrestling claims didn’t come off the way Punk wanted and he felt bad about them after.

Punk claims to people that he talks to that he still wants to sit down with Hangman Page, Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, but they refuse. Those we spoke to say that Hangman Page generally avoids the situation, and has not been interested in working with Punk at least over the last year or so. The situation was not a work on Hangman’s end as of publishing this article, though many on Collision have said that they believe Punk is trying to work himself into an angle. Those close with the Elite say that these situations make them want to distance themselves more.

We have confirmed that Matt Hardy and Isiah Kassidy were supposed to be at recent AEW Collision episodes, and their travel was booked, then unbooked. They were not scheduled to be at this past week’s episode of Collision.

The talent that have been pulled are of the belief that it was CM Punk, but we haven’t heard specifically that’s the case. That same suspicion is part of the domino effect that led to where we are now, dating back to speculation that Colt Cabana was initially not going to be re-signed by AEW.

We’ve not heard of Tony Khan’s reaction to the situation, outside of that he was excited for Punk to be back. PWTorch has said that Khan was audibly exclaiming as Punk walked by him at Gorilla position upon his return.

Comments

He’s working too damn much, stop focusing on creating an angle and how bout you fix the human aspect for the company

Brian Ferreira

Feels like he’s trying to be real “pro rasslin” about this because he’s thinking of the money to be made and it feels like everyone else is approaching this in a human way. Seems like the Elite don’t care about the work that can be made from this, it’s personal and I agree. Take care of the human element and get on the same page, work AFTER amends are made.

Brian Ferreira

Hardy is friends with the Elite and Man baby Phil doesn't want any of the Elites friends on Collision.

Forceofwilliam

I've read some stupid comments, but this may take the cake. Punk could have talked with Hangman or the Elite for months before Brawl Out. Instead, he sat at home injured and held a grudge against them until he came back. He then did some shooting on his own calling out Hangman in his first promo, got pissy during the media scrum about them and the company, told people to come talk to him, and then attacked people who were coming with legal to talk to him. And when he finally comes back, he whines to ESPN before calling other wrestlers soft on the first Collision. Punk is the softest pussy in the business and you're the dumbest.

Forceofwilliam

Ignore Joel. He would rather spend his time gobbling on Punk's knob than thinking what is best for the company as a whole. You're absolutely right of course.

Forceofwilliam

I understand there was reasoning behind everyone else but why was Hardy and Kassidy pulled from the show

Daniel Smith

"Those close with the Elite say that these situations make them want to distance themselves more." How exactly is Punk not seeing this? I don't mean this being a story for Patreon subs, I mean it feels like Punk isn't understanding the consequences of his words and actions here. Like, you can't trash talk people and expect them to forgive you for an earlier bit of trouble caused. That's like if I insulted Eddie Kingston's mother and then opted to apologize by making fun of his weight. That's not gonna get me forgiveness, that's gonna get me killed!

CSDX

I enjoy Collision quite a bit, but it’s pretty much becoming “some combination of CMFTR in the main event every week” and that’s going to get old REALLY quick

Matthew Daley

You should be pulling for the success of both shows because both shows being successful is good for AEW as a whole. You need to stop knob gobbling Punk/Cornette so hard and think about the good of the company as a whole. If you're a brain dead mark who can't enjoy both shows because one of them doesn't have the wrestlers you personally like, you need to get more help than we can offer.

Forceofwilliam

It’s facts dude Dynamite has become rinse recycle repeat Collision is simply better you’re letting your love for the Elite cloud your judgement.Even JR said Collision locker room is so much calmer than Dynamite like it or not The Bucks and Hangman aren’t Saints.

Joel Allison

Not based on the ratings.

John Horton

The last time Punk asked people to talk face to face and then they did, he went psycho along with Ace Steel. He doesn't actually want to talk.

John Horton

Jesus, get Punk out of your mouth for 2 seconds and see how this will hurt AEW in the long run.

Forceofwilliam

“Punk claims to people that he talks to that he still wants to sit down with Hangman Page, Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, but they refuse.” Well no shit. Maybe stop talking about it and cutting promos on guys like Hangman for a bit and you’ll eventually get somewhere and can talk. It’s not cooling situations when you keep pushing it.

Cory Towner

Lol

Joel Allison

Keep doing it then because Collision is way better than Dynamite.

Joel Allison

Yeah, but Daniels appears on BTE too much so he can't be on baby Punk's show.

Forceofwilliam

Collision is the "A" show for people who have so much Cornette and Punk in their mouth that they can't breathe. True AEW fans like both shows because it is AEW.

Forceofwilliam

No, you don't. One party committed a crime that would have been convicted if the Elite wanted to press charges. Thankfully, the Elite are bigger people than I would be if I had a chair thrown at my head and if I was bit by Ace. You don't get to sit down and tell them to work it out after a crime happens. Tony should just be thankful the Elite didn't leave him for NJPW or WWE because he is placating Punk so hard.

Forceofwilliam

If he's banning people from the building, I would say we are there.

Forceofwilliam

Isn't Christopher Daniels the Head of Talent Relations? Isn't he technically a boss to Cm Punk?

Doogie

Well, he is the softest man in wrestling.

Doogie

I’ll preface this by saying that I don’t know any of these people, I don’t have a “side”, I’m merely a consumer of a product. These guys are all great at their jobs, obviously, and that’s the only thing that I can claim to know for certain. But god damn, dude. This guy looked SRS in the face and said he wishes people would stop talking about him, then he keeps bringing up these guys despite acknowledging that they don’t want to talk to him. But I think talking about Punk distracts from the real story, which continues to be Tony Kahn’s failures as a leader. His focus is spread too thin across too many things to even have the capacity to manage this shit, but he refuses to do anything about it

patchyrick

Also damn, causing Christopher Daniels grief when you just restarted a program with Samoa Joe is certainly a choice

Talia

How far away are we from Punk going full WCW Hogan? Because it feels like we're damn close.

GohanRoxas

But who have the elite ever had problems with? And look how punk has drama with almost everyone

Charles Lee Ray

I figured that was a shot at Amell since they're both on Heels, but who knows now

Talia

I love Punks work but is it maybe time to cut that ego free and build Collision around Danielson or Hangman instead? He's a big name but he can't be banning people from the building, especially people who work there and aren't even working on the same show. Most of those names were likwly there to work on ROH or Dynamite

Ryan Cremeans

That golden age of enlightenment that we should all put on a pedestal.

Matthew Daley

Kind of makes me think that punk was not wearing that SAG shirt on TV to support the strike. Comes off as another shot at Nemeth to me. As a fan that could take or leave Punk, it’s so frustrating.

Patrick Flynn

You do when your The Boss they are getting paid a shit ton of money they need to do their jobs. The Bucks wouldn’t have made it in the attitude era.

Joel Allison

Yeah, you don't get to force people who were assaulted to sit in a room with one of their two assaulters. As soon as Punk threw a chair and hit them in the head, he doesn't get to demand they sit down and talk.

Forceofwilliam

Yeah, no member of The Elite has ever done any interviews with any other outlet except Meltzer....oh wait.

Forceofwilliam

Fragile Phil needs to go.

Gary Freeland

Oh no. Hangman said some unplanned mean words. How awful? Good thing Punk has never did any shooting during a promo or he wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Punk held a 3 month long grudge against Hangman and his friends after Double or Nothing and it led to Brawl Out. He could have been an adult and talked to Hangman and buried it that night, but Punk is incapable of letting shit go.

Forceofwilliam

You don't get to throw a chair at someone's head and then complain when they don't want to talk. The world doesn't work like that.

Forceofwilliam

This isn't drama. This doesn't need to be hyped up. Nameth was definitely wrong trying to score points off the sitch and if this isn't a work, Phil is petty. He's always been petty. It's not enough to move me off of anything.

Covell Coleman JR

Maybe before you comment, you can learn how to speak English like an adult. Your words are just random shit thrown together. I wouldn't expect less from a Punk mark though.

Forceofwilliam

It is. Put your phone down, turn off your computer, and just enjoy the shows.

Tucker

Gets mad a guy is “fanning the flames” then proceeds to immediately fan the flames. Make it make sense

Ray Hernandez

Really problem cm adult elite little kids playing wrestling need grow up

Chris Spires

If I was watching this on a reality TV show I'd write it off as a lame fake storyline, thats how cringeworthy this is. Sadly, sounds like it's real.

Stephen Harris

Real dirty pool doing this when he knows Nemeth is on strike

Talia

I mean I can understand why, but it also sounds like Tony Khan isn't even creating an environment where that can happen. If they are reluctant to sit down and work with Punk, then do what's needed to change their minds. Idk obviously we don't have all the info, but the ball is really in Tony Khans hands here. He's supposed to be the Boss.

Vain Valor

I’ve seen enough of his matches and heard enough of his 1 note promos to definitely say he’s boring. Collision is nothing but a Chocolate Muffin vanity project and an excuse to suck up to all the aging Cornette types that endlessly bitched about Dynamite from the start

Matthew Daley

Nah he’s not the problem the problem is Meltzer the only member of The elite that will actually talk.

Joel Allison

Punk needs to go

🏆

The elite don't want to apparently..

slick

So sick of all the crap that comes with CM Punk

Ty Jans

Hangman also went on to lose the title and was cooled off substantially for the next 4 months, not to mention that Punk’s ‘coward shit’ promo was about a million times worse than anything Page said.

David C

It is the A show I’m slowly starting to not give a shit about Dynamite.

Joel Allison

This is all on Tony Khan he needs to take control of his company and have a behind closed door meeting with Punk and The Elite. Tell Punk to stop being a dick for no reason and tell The Elite to grow up and stop being spoiled children.

Joel Allison

God what a train wreck

Raphael Soohoo

Punk is a pathetically toxic person.

Talk About Your Psalms Talk About John 3 16 Femboy 3 16 Says I Just Licked Your Ass

Tony Khan needs to get his house in order. This is getting ridiculous. Just sit everyone down and get everyone on the same page.

Vain Valor

And yet here he is smack talking Hangman on two occasions when he’s nowhere near the building. What a bastion of masculinity!

Matthew Daley

Hangman went into business for himself before DON, if he doesn’t do that we most likely don’t get all this. What happened after is all an effect to what hangman causes, not excusing either behavior just stating the fact

Rene marquez

So is this TK’s show or Punk’s to run? Serious question. Did WBD just give Punk a show and tell TK to make it work or did WBD give TK another show in order to alleviate some of the friction and to gain more time for the underused wrestlers. I enjoy Collision a lot - most times more than Dynamite. But this drama is absurd anymore. How are they going to function at PPVs?!

Amber

When you hire on someone who goes on to bad mouth the company in a scrum while you're sitting right next to him and then give him his own show instead of firing him after he got in a physical altercation with your executive vice presidents who helped found the company, it's quite easy. TK needs to pull up big boy britches, whip out his/his daddy's checkbook to pay off Punk's contract, and get him the hell out of the company.

Forceofwilliam

Hate him or love him but either way you can’t say he’s boring…. Tony needs to not re-sign a lot of this deadweight that’s causing problems …say what you will about Punk but Collision is slowly becoming the go to show

Steven Wright

Ppl in the comments would rather let their coworkers shit talk them with no repreications than to ever confront them it seems 🤣🤣 idk how Punks soft for handling the situation like men should, face to face. But go off

Kendal Connolly

I'm a big defender of TK but his failure to address the Colt Cabana situation last year has had horrible consequences. He needs to be a boss and not a god damn fan.

Flameducky

Tony Khan needs to get control over his company. People are gonna say "oh this is all hearsay, dirt sheets, blah blah blah" but whenever major drama pops up in AEW, Punk is the singular constant. Also, who the fuck is he to say who he wants at Collision? Is that HIS show or is it Tony's? Sigh. I'm just ready for all of this to be over with. This is exhausting as a fan.

Jahwan Wishardt

Phil is just a petulant child and will get his way as long as fanboy TK let's him. This whole thing is actively separating the company/fan base and tony is just happy to let it happen.

DiscoDinomite

@rene give me an example of the elite publicly making the company look stupid / initiating drama

Flameducky

Pro tip: don't read the dirtsheets

Flameducky

It’s not like TK hasn’t allowed the elite to hire all their friends even if they are not good or needed on camera

Rene marquez

CMPunk. S a w f t. SAWFT

Andreas Bryhn

Crying Manbaby Punk strikes again. He just can't let stuff go. And as for wanting to talk to the Elite, you don't get to toss a chair at someone's head and then get upset when they don't want to talk, Phil. At this point, he and Ace should consider themselves lucky that they aren't sitting in a prison cell for assault. Punk will be the end of AEW, or Collision at the very least, if he is continued to allowed to exert influence over the show.

Forceofwilliam

I definitely agree. It's still crazy how people think Punk isn't the one causing issues here.

Matt Walker

Can't fathom how this continues to go on perpetually.

BKRMKR

Softest man alive confirms he is the softest man alive by doing softest man alive shit. Nemeth said nothing wrong, apologized for it anyway, and CM Plush still has him sent home? His 0.4x Speed matches aren't worth this much trouble.

Ryan Rockwell

Separating a fight and biting someone in a fight are not the same.

A

Always was the problem, but his supporters still believe he can do no wrong.

Nick_713

Or throw a chair. Punk trying his best to "both sides" a situation that is all his fault.

TheMightyKyle

So, has anyone asked Tony Khan what happens when he gets barred from Collision tapings? Serious question.

kdk176

Hausman: "...didn’t come off the way Punk wanted and he felt bad about them after." Punk: "Earlier today, I went to a local supermarket and I figured out why they call him Hangman is because the pegs in the Toy aisle are full of Hangman action figures. ’cause nobody wants to buy ’em. He’s a peg warmer, unlike me who moves merchandise and pops ratings and sells toys." I'm dying to know how he wanted to "come off."

Dan Stabb

Damn, it's crazy that TK placates to Punk so much, knowing his past history of going full-on scorched earth. He just lets Punk do whatever he wants.

Nick_713

Grown person* The one constant in these situations is CM Punk. We shouldn't forget that.

Craft Dinner

Shmingy Dingy

I mean, CD didn't bite anyone like Ace Steel did, so I'm not sure why they're in the same boat.

Lenny

The idea that Punk would get mad at Nemeth for fanning the flames when that's literally all he does is absurd to me. If Punk wanted to put it behind him, he wouldn't be cutting "pegwarmer" promos on Page.

Adam Frazier

Tucker

Sigh.

Adam Frazier

Daniels is in a tag team for ROH & a producer/coach for them... ROH films after & before Collision- How is this not going to be a long term issue? (Also, how does attempting to break up a fight, by all reports, equate to biting someone's arm hence being banned from shows? Especially when you are Head of Talent Relations?) Nemeth is normally in a team with Avalon, who is an ROH talent at times... Again, how is this not going to be an ongoing issue?

jennifer griffin

Not insulting the reporting, just the constant drama around the dude... it's old for me.

Scott Payne

"The talent that have been pulled are of the belief that it was CM Punk, but we haven't heard specifically that's the case." It's a sad day when I read this and all I can think is that some people will read this and think, "See? This is all just dumb dirt sheet gossip and there's no possible way any of this is true"

Steven

This dude is such a fragile hypocrite. Claims he doesn't want drama backstage then tries to do a shitty worked shoot promo after the show fully knowing it'll piss some people off.

Flameducky

The CM Punk drama is tiring and old

Scott Payne

Vince apparenlty had a thing for HBK... according to some shoot interviews...

slick

Depends on if this cools off. If punk ends up gone from the company in a year and they get to ride out their contracts making tons of money while seeing their families 5 days a week, than It's worth it

Flameducky

Even after talking it out with him. Punk still wanted Nemeth gone. Pretty much proving Nemeth’s point….lol

Busby

I get the feeling that's just how he operates. His a fan with the mind of a businessman and a whole lot of money. The question is how he reacts to Punk stirring crap up again. Best guess? It keeps happening until Punk crosses a major line again.

Craft Dinner

If he was pissed at Nemeth for fanning flames that he was trying to put out, I’m good with that. Still petty to make the guy turn around and go home and waste his Saturday.

Left_coast_envy

Money over morale.

Nick O’Shea

SRS is the best in the IWC. Seems like Punk really wants that money making fight.

slick

Audibly exclaiming from the boss as your employee walks by is weird behavior.

Josh Cooper

Nemeth apologized and yet Punk still didn't want him around. Punk seems to be the main problem in this situation.

Matt Walker

We played nice until the ink dried on the Elite’s extensions. Never change Pepsi Phil!

Trevor D.

The Elite made the wrong choice, didn’t they?
