Mosh Pit Dev Blog #5: Slave Owners and Ability Enhancements

Welcome back to another exciting update on Mosh Pit, the tabletop gladiatorial skirmish game that's shaping up to be a thrilling experience! In today's dev blog, we'll delve into a key aspect of the game: Slave Owners and the unique methods they employ to improve their gladiatorial slaves.

Slave Owners: Masters of High Society

In the world of Mosh Pit, Slave Owners are the elite members of high society who own and oversee the brutal gladiatorial contests. Each Slave Owner is characterized by their distinct philosophy and approach to enhancing their slaves. These powerful figures are not just formidable adversaries but also key components of the game's rich narrative.

Mechanics: Crafting the Ultimate Warrior

Some Slave Owners are masters of mechanical augmentation. They transform their slaves by replacing their limbs and body parts with intricate mechanical implants. These enhanced gladiators are not just fearsome fighters but also walking marvels of technology, boasting increased strength, resilience, and unique abilities.

Nanotech: Merging Man and Machine

For other Slave Owners, nanotechnology is the path to victory. They implant tiny chips and semi-mechanical devices into their slaves, creating a symbiotic relationship between man and machine. This integration grants gladiators the ability to reconfigure their skills on the fly to match their opponents.

Chemistry: Genes and Mutations

Chemistry-focused Slave Owners take a different route to power. They introduce mutagens into their gladiators, altering their DNA and physiology. These genetic enhancements offer a wide range of unique abilities, from increased speed and agility to deadly venomous attacks. These gladiators are living experiments, their bodies altered to perfection.

Ability Enhancements (Combos)

As the game progresses, players will have the opportunity to collect Ability Enhancements, or "Combos," that reflect the unique methods of their chosen Slave Owner.

These Combos not only define the gameplay style of each Slave Owner but also serve as a strategic element in the game. Players will need to carefully choose and deploy their Combos to gain an advantage over their opponents, making each match a dynamic and challenging experience.

What's Next?

Mosh Pit is rapidly evolving, and we're thrilled to see it come to life. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to refine the game mechanics, create miniatures, and build the immersive world of gladiatorial combat.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for Mosh Pit. We can't wait to share more with you in the coming months. Until then, keep your weapons sharp, and your strategies sharper!

October Release Sneak Peek

Dear Patrons,

We are excited to share with you a sneak peek at our newest addition to the Rock Head-themed miniature line - One Eye. Her elongated eye with a slit-shaped pupil for better night vision and heightened awareness of movement give her the edge when it comes to tracking targets. With thick, scaly skin reminiscent of reptiles, she is also well-protected against environmnetal hazards of the wasteland. She fully embraces her adaptations and utilises them to her advantage as a part of New Verden’s militia.

One Eye and other models in the line are going to be a part of the upcoming October release. Let us know in the comments what you think and what other types of mutants you believe would be cool to have in this setting.

Meet Sons of Betelgeuse

We are thrilled to present to you a glimpse into our latest miniatures line: the mighty Sons of Betelgeuse! This faction, a militaristic theocracy, stands tall on their stockpiles of pre-Blackout weapons, ready to defend their beliefs and eradicate the mutants that roam the post-apocalyptic wastelands. The Sons embody the principles of Devotion, Purity, Resilience, Discipline, Sacrifice, Unity, and Vigilance. These virtues guide their actions, shape their society, and fuel their unwavering commitment to their cause.

In the early days, the Sons of Betelgeuse sought refuge in bunker-shelters, relying on an internal economy to sustain their growing population. However, as the numbers swelled, the bunkers could no longer accommodate everyone. This led to the deployment of scouts into the treacherous wasteland, paving the way for the emergence of external Sons’ settlements. Today, this society is conventionally divided into two strata: grounders and undergrounders.

The undergrounders, inheriting residency permits based on merit, lead a more contented and quiet life compared to the above-grounders. They consider themselves purer, unaffected by the external environment, often looking down on their counterparts. On the other hand, the grounders, embracing the virtue of Resilience, see themselves as stronger and more capable than the "bunker worms."

Technology plays a pivotal role in the Sons' arsenal. Sitting atop a hoard of pre-war goodies and weapons, their focus lies in maintaining and reverse-engineering existing technology rather than creating new advancements. Resource allocation is governed by strict quotas, ensuring the efficient utilization of their limited resources.

The miniatures you can see in the renders are going to be available this September. Stay tuned for more updates and showcases!

Mosh Pit Dev Blog #4: Cards and Upgrades

Hello, players!

Today, we want to share a quick about our tabletop game that is currently in development. We hope that you will enjoy the new mechanics.

1. Hero cards: We have decided to make the hero cards versatile tools that allow heroes to move, defend, attack, and use their special abilities. Now, you don't need to memorize numerous rules and tables to know what your hero can do. Each character will have its own deck of cards, listing the abilities' effects, the distance the character can cover when they activate said abilities and passive bonuses they yield.

2. Slave Masters: In our game, each player will have their own slave master card, specializing in a specific area when upgrading their fighters. We will have several different types of slave masters, such as mechanics, biotechnicians, and chemists. Each of them will have unique abilities and resources that will allow you to create strong and versatile fighters.

3. Progression mechanics throughout the game: We want your gaming experience to be dynamic at every stage. That's why we offer you the opportunity to upgrade your fighters with implants of specific types after each battle. This will allow you to give your champions new abilities and advantages in subsequent rounds. You will be able to adapt to changing situations and create unique skill combinations to achieve victory.

We continue to work on the game and strive to create a memorable gaming experience for you. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please share them with us.

Thank you for your support and patience. We look forward to sharing more detailed information about our game in the near future.

A D&D one-shot on the making: Age of Ethers Dev Blog #1

We are happy to announce that, having dipped our toes in fantasy-related content, we are now working on a D&D one-shot adventure, the first in the series with a working title Age of Ethers.

This prologue chapter will take you the isle that had been locked away and had no connection with the outer world until a stable portal was created by the first settlers stranded through a magical anomaly. Since then, generations of Keepers have been hard at work maintaining it, and the village that sprouted around the portal has bloosmed into a bustling city, a center of trade, attracting merchants, adventurers, and fortune seekers from all corners of the realm. The island is yet to yield to the foreign influence, however, making the secrets of its untamed wilds all the more tantalizing.

Your task is straightforward - to deliver a set of magical equipment to a reclusive wizard. His peaceful retirement has taken him away from the daily troubles of the city he once served to an arcane tower of his own. The promise of an easy job hangs in the air.

The adventure is going to feature downloadable 3D content, original illustrations, maps and detailed guidelines on how to run the game.

The one-shot is just beginning its development journey! Keep a watchful eye for future updates and until next time!

Mosh Pit Dev Blog #3: Game board

Welcome to another dev blog for "Mosh Pit" - the tabletop skirmish game where slave gladiators battle it out in the arena! Today, we'd like to share with you a major development: the introduction of hexagonal tiles to our game board.

1) Simulating the Arena and Dynamic Fights

By incorporating hexagonal tiles into our game board, we aim to create a more immersive and realistic experience for players. The hexagonal shape closely mimics the layout of a real arena, allowing players to truly feel like they're commanding their gladiators. The smaller size of these tiles also adds a dynamic element to fights, as players will have to carefully plan their moves and strategies within the limited space.

2) A Separate Project with Unique Gameplay

While "Mosh Pit" shares similarities with other tabletop skirmish games in terms of the presence of miniatures and gladiatorial theme, we want to emphasize that this is a separate project altogether. "Mosh Pit" offers a distinct gameplay experience, focusing on the intense battles between individual slave gladiators in a brutal arena setting as opposed to gangs. These fighters will be

3) Traps and Random Effects

One exciting feature we have in store for "Mosh Pit" is the inclusion of traps on the game board. These traps will add an element of surprise and strategy to the game, as players will have the opportunity to set them up themselves. Each trap will have a random effect, further increasing the unpredictability of every match. Players will need to carefully consider trap placement and timing to gain a tactical advantage over their opponents and avoid shooting themselves in the leg.

Stay tuned for more updates on "Mosh Pit" as we continue to develop and refine this skirmish game. We can't wait to share more details about the traps and other exciting features that await you in the arena.

Until next time!

Sons of Betelgeuse War Declaration + Concept art

We have allowed it to fester for too long

When the Blackout struck, the devastation it incurred was unprecedented. But it goes beyond the collapsed infrastructure and chemical plants bleeding waste. People are blind to the hand guiding them to their demise, the way it erases the image of humankind with ruthless deliberation.

Many see mutants as simple freaks of nature, and that is exactly what they want you to believe. Places like Rock Head have embraced them, oblivious to the hidden cost of such a decision. What they fail to realise is that dwellers of the inferno have finally managed to unlock its gates, and the key is fashioned out of human flesh. It is no coincidence that you can see “breeds” of mutants emerging, with similar physical characteristics. Demonic entities are tailoring the human form to their needs, so that it can accommodate them when they trespass the border between our world and the immaterial.

You may think that they are of no threat to you, that you will be able to suppress them should they refuse to comply. When you finally see the error of your ways, your communities will have eroded past the point of no return and entire legions will be at your doorstep. They may act civilised in your presence so that you allow them to breed unrestrained and drive you out of your own homes. But the Sons of Betelgeuse know too well how they act when they are not trying to deceive you.

Our villages near the border ended up in the crosshair of Viscera Vipers. Not only did they leave behind a trail of smoke and carnage, but of bones licked clean. It is a mere glimpse of what is yet to come. You may continue to delude yourself, but through our Lord Commander the Godly Tongue has spoken, and we will suffer their presence no longer.

The blood of our people is on our hands. We have insulted the Father and Six Graces with our inaction. This is total war. Sons of Betelgeuse will not stop until the last abomination is forced back whence it came. Our past victories allowed us to turn the abandoned bunkers and a piece of this dying world surrounding them into a prosperous hub of civilisation, yet there can be no confidence in tomorrow if we neglect to eliminate this threat today.

Let there be fire.

Mosh Pit Dev Blog #2: Mechanics

Get ready to plunge into the adrenaline-fueled world of tabletop wargaming with Mosh Pit. In this article, we delve into some of the draft mechanics that we are considering implementing to make Mosh Pit an unforgettable gaming experience.

Gladiator Upgrades:

In Mosh Pit, the growth and development of your fighters will play a crucial role in their success. As you battle through multiple encounters, your gladiators will accumulate experience points, allowing you to upgrade their characteristics, equipment, and skills. The warriors are going to be fewer in number, but with added depth of customization.

Player Interaction:

Mosh Pit fosters an engaging social aspect by incorporating player interaction into the gameplay. Before each fight, players can place bets on various events such as crowd support, drawing a particular card, or predicting a specific outcome. If successful, players can gain beneficial buffs or additional experience, while also having the opportunity to hinder their opponents. This unique addition not only adds excitement during the matches but also enhances the overall competitiveness and strategic thinking involved.

Combat Combinations:

Prepare to test your tactical prowess. Players can unleash devastating combinations of attacks and dodges using their gladiators. Each combination comes with a price and chance of success, providing players with the challenge of creating the most effective and deadly strategies.

These mechanics are just a taste of what’s to come in Mosh Pit. We’re confident that they will enhance the overall gameplay experience. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to develop this thrilling tabletop wargame, and as always, leave your suggestions in the comments below.

So, gear up and step into the arena – your glory awaits!

Heavy Duty Cult Slaver

Welcome!

We're excited to give you a sneak peek at our upcoming release for next month. This time, we're introducing a new character to Mosh Pit, our upcoming tabletop skirmish wargame - the Heavy Duty Cult Slaver.

As his name suggests, this character is all about subjugating and controlling others. He takes great pleasure in augmenting his slaves and having them fight against other slavers' champions in the arena. But don't let his love for violence fool you - he's a calculating and cunning opponent who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. Even though Heavy Duty Cult represents an egalitarian utopia in the middle of the wasteland, some of its citizens are more equal than others.

Our concept art and renders of the Heavy Duty Cult Slaver are now available for you to see. We can't wait for you to add this new character to your collection.

Thank you for your support and stay tuned for more updates on Mosh Pit!

The Wasteland: 3 Horrible Ways to Die

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger? Hah! What doesn’t kill you probably wants you to be a supply of nutrients for its young while you are still alive.

We are trying to be educational here at Aftermath Report, so we decided to ask no other than the Captain himself, a renowned caravaneer and founder of Antecursor Trading Company who has made countless trips across the wasteland, to give us a list of 3 Horrible Ways to Die on the way to mutant territories. Let’s try to raise our collective chances of survival.

1. Tsehun

The mutant word for “skewer” is also a word for something more sinister. What makes them particularly dangerous, other than the fact that they actively hunt humanoids, is how quickly they evolve compared to other desert fauna. First historical sightings of them gave us an image of a solitary predator, a parasitic wasp that would try to attack under the cover of the night and kill livestock. The species as it is now has developed coordinated social behaviour and sturdy exoskeletons that are exceptionally hard to pry open. They descend from the skies like a meteor shower and try to overpower you with brute force, and they get their fill more often than not - snatching the dead and the wounded to support their high calory intake. If you are too tough of a nut to crack, they may leave you alone, so your best bet is to try to gun down as many as you can, but remember that they are just as good at stalking prey on foot.

2. Ramshanks

Also known as “yet another reason why we don’t travel at night”. These nocturnal ovoid insects can easily be mistaken for sun-bleached boulders when they stay buried in the sand. However, the moment they sense movement, they use their legs to propel themselves forward with life-threatening force. Their segmented bodies, covered with chitinous plates, turn them into living battering rams. They are incredibly persistent in their pursuit of prey and good at wrecking vehicles - the very vehicles that usually spell the difference between a job well done and an early grave. Aim at the side, between leg segments or at the soft underside of their thoraxes. Otherwise you will find yourself broken and pulled beneath the sand.

3. The Whirlpool

The Whirlpool is not a creature per se - it is a location with several dustcutters clustered together. Each dustcutter - a whip-shaped creature firmly lodged in the ground - supports several drones that do their bidding, and their cunning, alien proto-intelligence is their key to being successful wasteland predators. Drones raid campsites and drag the supplies to the Whirlpool, as well as use weapons and equipment of their previous meals to make a play at human greed. When prey is close enough, dust cutters trigger a fall trap constructed by the drones, and the ground beneath collapses, forming steep upward slopes. Several pairs of massive mandibles emerge from the sand and dormant peons swarm the victim. There is usually no hope at this point, so the best advice I can give is to avoid things that look too good to be true.

Now that you are better informed, feel free to never think about leaving Rock Head again. Or contact Antecursor Trading Company if these are not enough to deter you. They make good buck and collect horror stories. Until next time!
