More on AEW Collision Talent Meeting Led By CM Punk

There was a talent meeting ahead of the July 8 episode of AEW Collision that we’ve learned more about.

When Fightful heard that there was a talent meeting at that episode of Collision, we shortly found out later that it didn’t make its way to talent who weren’t there or are typically featured on Dynamite more than Collision. There was a good reason for that it seems, as a large part of the meeting was about how Collision has differentiated itself from Dynamite, to the point to where many of Dynamite’s usual detractors have taken to liking Collision.

CM Punk led the meeting, and there were several topics brought up on how Collision could separate itself from what fans see on Dynamite, including the finishes of some matches. They went over what was and wasn’t good for collision, such as finishes, shenanigans and the like.

There were also subjects covered such as promoting AEW related projects and shows more, especially the Fight Forever video game. Some of the safety guidelines were also covered during the meeting.

Aww, little baby Punk finally gets to be the Locker Room Leader he always pretended he was.

The Lane Family

there's enough people in that show to hold the meeting in a van.

BugabooJonez

i get the style of show they are trying to do, its really not my favorite but that's okay. ill still watch because there's other people on it i like.

BugabooJonez

Sounds like people were receptive to it. Why not? He doesn't have a dispute with the vast majority of them and he's one of the biggest 2-3 names in the entire company. Colission has been AEW's best program for the last month, in large part due to CM Punk. It makes logical sense that he would lead a talent meeting to make sure everyone is on the same page and they continue with the success.

Terps

No because the WWE over AEW crowd wouldn't be watching either AEW show. "Usual detractors" is just coded language for "Anti-Elite" not anti-AEW.

Forceofwilliam

Wouldn’t the “usual detractors” be primarily the WWE>AEW crowd?

kidfavre4

I watch and enjoy both Dynamite and Collision and I really don't care if Punk runs talent meetings or not. Just don't be surprised after what he has done if people are skeptical about his motives for this type of meeting. Punk is and has always been Punk first. He doesn't give two shits about AEW and has shown that in the past.

Forceofwilliam

Context matters. Punk saying what he said didn't happen out of nowhere and it was clearly not the first time Tony Khan heard any of that. As far as "Punk vs The Elite" goes...Blame Tony Khan for being bad at his job. This shit happens in pro sports every year. How did the Khan family handle that little mishap with Urban Meyer? Eh?? It was a year ago. Time to move on. If you want AEW to succeed and be more than a well-funded hobby, then you should hope for Collision to be a success. If not, then you'll always have the Bucks youtube show.

But if 95% of AEW fans watch and enjoy both shows, why talk about how to differentiate products? Ultimately, it's not even Punk's decision. It's Tony Khan's. He is actively trying to further the divide the roster. And people wonder why some wrestlers called Punk a cancer.

Forceofwilliam

They aren’t catering to an extreme. It’s just a slightly different type of wrestling show that reminds some of old school southern wrasslin. I think if you look at the people being featured heavily on that show, it seems like that was the vision.

Left_coast_envy

I don't know why people would be upset with the guy who got on stage at a media scum less than a year ago and spent a large amount of time just burying the company right after winning the championship telling talent to do anything. I wonder why people would think someone like that may not have the companies best interest in mind. Boggles the mind.

Forceofwilliam

I'm really liking all the little ways Collision is different from Dynamite. Not that I don't like Dynamite, but it really helps break up the feeling that I'm just watching a 5 hour chunk of the same show every week, which I always got when I watched WWE.

Cy

Because the same people who like to call Punk and/or the Bucks whiners or man children get insanely tribal over which side of a backstage fight between 40 year old men they decided to plant their flag on. You'd think fans of the product would be happy that the talent seems to be getting along better, but apparently it's more important that the "right side" of some stupid backstage feud "wins".

Cy

How is Punk even allowed to lead a meeting after everything he’s said and done?

Miss Laura Maria

I work in radio and there are usually multiple formats in one cluster of stations. Each station is ran by a different Brand Manager / Program Director. Each Brand Manager is trying to give their stations it's own identity, sound, promotions, and ways to engage the audience. We all work together on larger events...and most of us are friends. But we have a healthy competition for our brand, under the same company's umbrella, to be the best. Which is why I don't understand some fans being upset that Punk led a talent meeting for Collision?

Kurtis Allen

When you cater to a 40 year old man child, he obviously will be running talent meetings since he has people he wants to work with on his show.

Forceofwilliam

Then why hold a meeting concerning the 5%? Why not just put on the product that people fell in love with to begin with instead of trying to cater to the extremes.

Forceofwilliam

Very curious to know the complete specifics on what they think can and can’t work on collision, that interests me

M

So yeah, that's why we said that.....

Fightful Select

"Dynamite's usual detractors" aka Punk/Cornette marks. 95% of their audience likes both products.

Forceofwilliam

It absolutely beggars belief that Punk, who so embarrassed the company just less than a year ago, is quite literally leading talent meetings.

David C

I’ve been loving what Collision has become. Separate but equal with Dynamite. Is Danielson still actively involved with creative despite being on the shelf?

Look in my eyes What do you see A whole new type of wrestling TV
