WBD has been in favor of expanded AEW PPV schedule
Added 2023-07-12 17:47:44 +0000 UTCWe’d recently reported that AEW and WBD are deep into negotiations to extend their deal, but it could come with a massive change.
Warner Bros Discovery sources confirmed to Fightful Select that one of the major proposals from their end to All Elite Wrestling as it relates to an extension is the subject of PPV (or PLE) events. Specifically, a WBD source told Fightful that they mentioned the very likely possibility of significantly expanding the AEW PPV schedule, even to one a month. We’re told that this is something that Warner Bros. Discovery has wanted.
We aren’t sure on if those would be standalone or included in a MAX streaming deal, as WBD sources would not elaborate on that.
AEW has already expanded their special event schedule, adding Forbidden Door last year, and AEW All In this year. However, there have been no broadcast plans revealed as of yet.
Nothing in the deal is finalized to our knowledge, and this could change, but the expanded schedule has been discussed.

As a fan who has watched almost everything AEW has put out (Darks and Elevations included) - please no. Unless this is part of a streaming service that I can access in Canada, no fucking thank you. I’m not spending 50 bucks a month on AEW my dude.

2023-07-13 18:12:51 +0000 UTCThey have to going to Max no? How does adding PPVS help WBD? Do they get a cut of the buys?

2023-07-13 14:27:15 +0000 UTCThis is interesting because you could quickly turn PPVs like Blood and Guts, Winter is Coming, and St. Patrick's Day Slam into PPVs. I hope there is some subscription plan or becoming part of Max because I would not want to pay for monthly PPVs. We will see how this turns out.
2023-07-12 20:43:48 +0000 UTCI said for the last two years that Dark/Elevation should have had branded special events one Saturday every like 6 weeks to blow off mid-card feuds they don’t want to put on PPV. If they expanded with that purpose AEW could tell way more completed stories across all their shows and you wouldn’t have feuds like Swerve and Keith Lee dragging on with no end in sight
2023-07-12 20:03:38 +0000 UTCRight. Reading between the line this would have to be where it’s going otherwise what would WBD care? Unless they are getting all the money from PPV in the deal.🤷🏻♂️

2023-07-12 19:40:03 +0000 UTCIt’s simple, if WBD wants more ppvs from AEW they will have no choice but to include them on Max, because no one in they right minds would pay $500-$600 a year on ppvs where you can get in on $70 a year roughly for max

2023-07-12 18:53:46 +0000 UTCI'll take monthly if they're on Max.
2023-07-12 18:49:52 +0000 UTCHaving a monthly ppv might assist in keeping their storytelling focused. Sometimes it feels like they try to stretch out a big match for several months where it really rarely needs it when you have week to week tv.

2023-07-12 18:37:45 +0000 UTCI don't really want monthly AEW ppvs, I like their current format of letting angles breathe and stretch out a bit. Every other month might be the sweet spot with some network specials sprinkled in.

2023-07-12 18:35:10 +0000 UTCIt better be on a streaming service. I’m not paying 50 a month

2023-07-12 18:15:44 +0000 UTCI hope that it's tied to a streaming service like Max. I'm not paying 50 bucks a month for a PPV/PLE. back before WWE had the Network I only bought the Big 4 PPVs.

2023-07-12 18:11:29 +0000 UTCI like 4 a year plus FD. 1 a month really screws up building long term feuds.

2023-07-12 18:09:15 +0000 UTCI don't necessarily hate the idea of more frequent PPVs. I feel like often times AEW booking as a lull period in between PPVs where they're just kinda waiting to build up to their next big event. Have a PPV every six weeks and let Double or Nothing and All Out be your big shows of the year where you have your best card and go four hours.
