What WBD would consider a success for AEW Collision

AEW Collision debuted on a night that is largely uncharted territory for a weekly, prime time Saturday show in this television landscape.

AEW Dynamite has generally been between 830-950k viewers on Wednesdays in prime time, while AEW Rampage has been all over the map because of the sporadic viewing times. Fightful has inquired within both AEW and sources at WBD prior to the launch of the show as to what they would consider a success for a Saturday night.

AEW didn’t respond to our inquiries, but sources within WBD told Fightful they were much more interested in the rankings than they were a particular number. AEW Dynamite has steadily ranked highly for the night, and WBD sources say they expect the same out of AEW Collision. They also noted they’re well aware that the fall months will face stiff competition with college football. Those sources said that they largely considered a top 5 ranking as a success.

Collision’s performance looks to be integral towards AEW landing a new media rights deal, which we’re told would be a huge addition financially for the company. Talks have been ongoing between each side.

Would we be able to get clarification on that top 5 finish? Is that top five with football included? Top 5 without football included? Top five only in their timeslot?

Scott Harris

It’s Saturday night I think it’s safe to assume that they ran a movie.

Matt Colton

They are well aware as per the report.

slick

A top 5 ranking gonna be tough in the fall once college football starts

Adrian Carpenter

What show was in that time slot before? I would imagine if the rating in the key demo is higher with Collision than the old show, then that is all WBD is looking for, right?

Right now

This tribalism crap is weird on both sides.

thankyoubrother

That’s kinda an insane expectation by WBD given it’s a Saturday at 8 with college football coming and UFC every so often.

Great reporting as always SRS

Ranking is a better metric than numbers anyways, because everyone is cutting cords, streaming, don’t have access to the live shows due to cable requirements. If you place 1 or 2 like collision has the past few weeks it doesn’t matter that 300k people tuned in cuz it’s still first or second. Even less people tuned in for the other stuff. Sure, raw, smackdown(free not cable, free to anyone in America with a tv and antenna), Monday night football, all kill it and have millions. Doesn’t matter, it’s not competition head to head to aew so it’s moot.

I just want to see E Drones cry

Marshall Enloe

The show isn't going anywhere. As long as WBD is happy.
