Will Ospreay On Health Status, Contract, Omega, All In, More

New Japan Pro Star Will Ospreay joined Fightful Select for an exclusive interview to promote NJPW’s Resurgence PPV event on May 21st, live from Long Beach, California.

Will told us that he feels good and is ready to return to work. He told Sean that he was slowly regaining his strength. Will said he worked 1PW show in April to see if he could do it. He praised independent wrestling and its current state because it has allowed him to have main-event-style matches.

Sean asked Ospreay about some wrestlers he’s worked with and who could be in his position in a few years. Sean would mention that Will faces a lot of different talent and brings the best out of people we have not seen before. Ospreay would say Michael Oku, Rickey Knight Jr., and Robbie X, Luke Jacobs. Will did mention that the UK is his home base and always will be.

Sean mentioned that Will is very upfront with his career regarding his contract status because many wrestlers don’t do that. Will said he thinks it comes from self-confidence. Will said he needs to work on his promos and could not cut a promo without swearing.

When his contract is up, or he starts negotiations, Will said he would be a fool not to hear anyone out. He mentioned that after Resurgence, he would stay an extra day in Southern California before returning to England. He said he could live in the U.S., but he gets real anxiety because of the size; he says it’s just big.

Sean mentioned that many Wrestling fans would be headed to London this summer for WWE’s Money in the Bank and AEW’s All In events. Will said, laughing, “don’t ask me; I fucking hate London.”

Sean mentioned the rumors of Will Ospreay wrestling at All In. Will said he would like to know who started those rumors. Will said that ticket sales for Wembley are fucking insane and that London is a hotbed for wrestling in Europe; he mentioned some of it was due to transportation getting to London helps. Will said that London should have gotten a WrestleMania, but it’s nice they’ll give us Money in the Bank.

Will said if the rumors are true and he gets to be part of All In, he would be very grateful. Will said with the success of ticket sales; he hopes that brings more wrestling events from AEW and WWE. He said the market is big enough; he knows that fans want to see John Cena and Randy Orton. Will mentioned he loves Money in the Bank PPV; Cena vs. Punk was one of his favorite matches ever. Will said he got a message from Cody Rhodes a while ago with Cody asking him why he did not do All In; Will said it was because he never got asked.

Will talked about his upcoming match against Hiroshi Tanahashi. He says he has nothing but respect for Tanahashi; he spoke about how Tanahashi’s work when NJPW was about to file for bankruptcy. He says this match is a big deal but a bigger deal for himself.

He said he got his ass kicked by Kenny Omega, and it was embarrassing. He said he felt he let everyone down with the loss at Wrestle Kingdom. He then said that he would then move on to face Lance Archer.

He said he had to change his style because it started to take a toll on his body; he said when Chris Jericho told him if he kept doing things like he was, he wouldn’t have a career. He mentioned he wants to do another reverse-450-splash but can’t. Will says he does question if he should do the Stormbreaker anymore because of the risk it brings to his arm.

Will says it scares him because he does not want to do something where he could be out of action. But, he said if that means he has to say goodbye to Stormbreaker, he would just need to perfect the Hidden Blade.

Sean asked Will about his Wrestle Kingdom Press Conference promo and what he thought about it. Will again said that because he doesn’t want to curse, it will be hard for him because he needs to stop cursing so much to go to that next level. He said that he uses the word cunt religiously and that it is his favorite word. He says that when people belittle what NJPW wrestlers went through during the pandemic, they have no idea what they are talking about because of the stress that they would go through.

Sean brought up the Ospreay vs. Kenny Omega match at Wrestle Kingdom. Sean asked Will if he knew if it was special and when did he know. Will said he began ingesting it all the next day. He says he saw people talking about it, and he said he saw nothing negative. Will said Omega is one of the best wrestlers in the world, but he’s still a cunt. Will said they get compared a lot, but they are just two different guys.

Will would mention that he is very proud of the match and is glad people love the match. However, Will would tell us if we go back and watch the match, we would see that Kenny carried 80% of the match, and he did 20%, and said it really bothers him because everyone was talking about Kenny. Will said he needs to regain his pride on this, and it needs to be 80/20 the other way.

Will mentioned that NJPW likes what he’s doing, his fellow wrestlers like what he is doing, and merchandise sales in NJPW are strong. He said he enjoys watching AEW and WWE; he mentioned how the WWE product had improved dramatically. Will said he used to care how much people thought about him, but he’s at a point he just can’t care anymore.

Will spoke about his friends Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher of Aussie Open and their recent success. Will said Davis and Fletcher lived with him while waiting for work Visas. He says they are two of his best friends. Will did mention that Davis left a BBQ Chicken Wing behind his sofa. He says both men inspire him to be a better person. Will said that he cried when they won the IWGP Tag-Team Championship titles and wished he was there when they won them.

Will then talked about The Great O-Khan and said that he makes him laugh because his social media is so funny. Will says Great O-Khan will say things you shouldn’t say.

In closing, Will said he recently watched the new Super Mario Bros. movie and truly enjoyed it. Will said he looks forward to seeing all of the bad quotes in the dirt sheets, and everyone gets in trouble and said to bring it on.
