AEW Fight Forever Update, What We Know So Far

After several delays in the planned release of AEW’s first console game, Sources close to Yuke’s told Fightful that they believe an announcement will be coming sooner than later regarding the game. Fightful alumni Mike Straw posted that he’s heard the release is set to be close to June’s AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door show, though we can’t confirm that’s the case. That did create chatter that led to the detail of a possible announcement, however. It was noted to us that the various release dates by online retailers over the past several months weren’t rooted in any truth. Originally, the game was aimed for Fall 2022, and Kenny Omega told Fightful in June 2022 he was hopeful it’d be released in 2022, but it wasn’t done.
Achievement unlocks have been leaked online, and you’re able to pre-install the game on Xbox, which generally doesn’t happen until close to a release date. We’re told that a release date is set to be announced “fairly soon,” but weren’t given context as to what is considered soon.
Many that worked on the AEW Fight Forever project, from writing stories, music and the like, wrapped their involvement in the game as far back as a year ago. At one point the internal hope was that it would release in the fall of 2022, but those working on the game had stated as of early April that the game was doing well but not 100 percent done.
Those that we spoke to who played an early version of the game said that the play-style reminded them a lot of WWF No Mercy, and that it is not supposed to play like the WWE 2K series. Evil Uno told Fightful in November 2022 that he’d heard the plan is for a single release of the game with ongoing updates.
AEW filmed chants for the game back in April 2022 at an event. We were told over a year ago the cut-off date for day one roster inclusion had passed, but we aren’t sure if that had changed as the game took longer to update. There are veterans of previous successful and critically acclaimed WWE games who helped prepare the story modes for the game. We’d reported last fall that heavy resources were put into that mode.
The game is set to be rated T-Teen, and had to tone down some of the gore and blood in order to be able to reach that rating.

Recording for the album began in the fall of 1998, roughly 10 years before it ever saw release, with lots of teased release dates in the meantime that came and went without it coming out.

I just expected it to be more information we didn't have beyond that one thing because the prior reporting on the game from last year really gave us a ton of information that we wouldn't have gotten from official sources.

Fair enough the line about the release date being announced soon wasn't in anything reported yesterday, I just didn't expect the report to lean so heavily into things that were otherwise easily available. Sorry it seems to have touched a nerve with you, Sean. Was just my observation and I'll refrain from interacting going forward.

2023-05-16 20:59:25 +0000 UTCI'm a big fan of Fightful Select and have been a frequent on/off subscriber, but with all due respect, I'm not sure why this is on Select? There's nothing here that isn't easily and readily available. Mike Straw's tweets and the achievements are all still up last I looked and the rest of the stuff discussed in the article isn't hard to find either. I was excited to see an update on the game coming to Select, but this is kind of a disappointment.
