Major Backstage Meeting Held At Last Week's AEW Dynamite

A major backstage meeting was held at the AEW Dynamite tapings on February 8.

Former AEW Women's Champion Thunder Rosa returned to the road for the first time since her injury forced her to eventually vacate the title. Fightful Select has learned that there was a locker room meeting for all of the women on the roster who were present at the tapings. Those that we heard from said that it was an effort to ease the tension between Rosa and the locker room after several relationships had frayed.

Those that we spoke to with knowledge of the meeting said that Rosa did a lot of "making amends" for several issues that came up along the way during her previous run in the company. There were those on the roster that took issue with her approach to things, and believed she made others on the women's roster seem like bullies. There were also complaints about sandbagging and working stiff. One member of the roster was quick to say that Rosa was met with some of that early in her AEW run as well, but that had long been rectified. There were some on the roster that took issue with her not being on the road with AEW while traveling for other work, and questioned the legitimacy of her injury, which Rosa addressed publicly.

Rosa wasn't wrestling, but instead did Spanish-language commentary, which sources indicated she was happy to participated in. She noted that she'd be back on the road recently, but wouldn't be wrestling immediately. Those close to her claim she isn't cleared yet, but is getting closer to it.

A member of AEW management told us they believed the meeting was productive and hoped it was a "clean slate."

Beat me to it by at least an hour.

Kong/Kharma told stories about how the KO division in its prime had severe issues but they all agreed - they need each other to succeed. Don’t have to be friends, but it sure does help when building a brand.

Well said.

Thanks for the news!

Great 👍 Job SRS

I think the person, Thunder Rosa, is a good one. She just is hyper competitive given all she’s been through. I respect, but I also have a hard time with her social media politics and how she handled it. Was very suspect. I can say from working in iffy/toxic work environments, it’s not excuse to go for the jugular and then back off and call out. I appreciate her sitting and facing them and I appreciate the women seemingly being open to moving forward. They got too much of a good thing going to be petty and childish. Fuck, youngest woman there is 19 and some of these ladies have children/step kids. Grow up and move along. It’s super grown/badass for TR to sit in front and own up to it and explain herself, always been a person who respects a face-to-face apology. They all have a part to play in what went down, but also have a part to play in keeping the peace.

Interesting. To hold an entire meeting with the women's locker room means that the rumors about Thunder Rosa not being well liked by other talent were true. She's always seemed likeable but you never know how people are behind the scenes.

John Horton

Yeah, and I should reiterate, that was the "tough position" people told me Rosa was put in early in AEW.

Great report SRS

I hope this really does settle things. I really like Thunder Rosa as a character and I think she's a plus to the roster, but 2022 really showed that AEW needs to focus on keeping backstage politics and ego to an absolute minimum. Just everybody settle down and get back to making a great alternative that gave me hope for pro wrestling again, damn.

This will just set Ivelisse off again.
