I'm working on breaking some corsets in and I thought I'd make a little blog post about it because its something I get a ton of questions about.
Breaking in a corset is called "Seasoning" (hence the dumb name of this post): its basically the process of gradually fitting a steel-bone corset to your body. Note how it's NOT fitting your body into the corset. Rather than putting the thing on and lacing it up immediately, seasoning involves slowly tightening the laces over the period of a few wears, about an hour or two at a time, so the metal structure and the fabric has plenty of time to adjust to form. You end the process with a corset that functions better, lasts longer and fits much more comfortably.
Of course it helps to start with a high quality steel-boned corset, you can't really season one of the $25 ones from Amazon (and I say this fully admitting that I own about five of the most basic of basic quality Amazon corsets, they have their uses). A decent quality steel-boned corset will run between 70-120 online and it IS something worth the price if you're going to use it and wear it regularly since, like I said earlier, it'll work better/last longer/be more comfortable. A GOOD quality corset will last for years, the one from Amazon will last MAYBE a year. Trust me, I've broken several. Any decent corset shop will also fit you by measurement.
I'm not sponsored or anything but I bought this corset (and several others in slightly different styles and colors) from Orchard Corsets and I think it ran me $80. There was a LIVE person on the website that I could chat with about which styles and sizes would work best for my needs. They have a huge variety of drag corsets, specifically designed to fit more masc-shaped bodies and fill out curves as well as a ton of plus size options in basically every single one of their designs. I've been extremely pleased by my purchases. Plus they wrap them like sandwhiches!
Once I'm done seasoning this corset and I've gotten it to the proper fit I'll post a follow-up so yall can see the difference.
