How to go from (mostly) harmless to Hot Demon Lady(tm)

As promised, here's the walk through of the Evelyn transformation behind the scenes. These are new forays for me, so feedback is definitely appreciated! If there's a part of the  process that you think could use more pictures or a deeper explanation please let me know. I'll see what I can do for next time! Or just let me know what character/costume should get this treatment next.

1) Here's my potato face. My hair's not even combed.
2) Its going under a wig cap anyway! These usually come in beige or black and I tend to prefer the ones that are open on the top that you pull up over all your hair to catch it all.
3) I slap a few wig pins up on the top to make sure I catch everything.
4) These velvet wig bands are great. You put them on so that the grain of the fabric holds your wig cap in place and it helps keep your wig from sliding off of your head. This is the cool thingy that keep's Ral's wig on so well. In addition the the fact that I glue it to my head. They also come in beige or brown, usually.
5) Let's talk shapewear! There is NO shame in wearing whatever supports you need underneath your costume to feel confident and comfortable. You're gonna look better if you feel better. Trust me. Since the skirt for this costume is high waisted I wore these high wasted, gross-beige granny panties. Keeps me looking slim even while I crushed a few beers during my little photoshoot.
6) ALWAYS start your make up with a good base layer. This is also the product I spend the most money on too. This is the stuff that is going to be touching your skin the most. You can definitely use cheaper products in other places but this is not where you wanna be thrifty.
7) Speaking of thrifty, these are two of my favorite middle-of-the-road brands: E.L.F and NYX. You can get this stuff at Target or Walgreens and its pretty damn good for the price. Watch for sales, I snagged both of those E.L.F palettes for 5 bucks each.
8) This is wear I'd put contacts in if I had them. I think I have a pair of yellow or orange ones somewhere, but you definitely DO NOT need contacts if you don't feel up to it. My allergies were going crazy today so I didn't feel like it.
9) I did a bit of contouring on my face, cheekbones and jawline mostly, since I'm gonna go REALLY purple on my eyes I used a cooler color than I would for a non-costume look.
10) I also put some of the costume on here, as you can see. I'm not gonna be doing anything more with my neck so I might as well get some more stuff on.
11) I'm far from the BEST at eyeshadow. If you want to see someone who's crazy talented go check out Christine Sprankle, honestly. She's amazing at this. But I usually start with the lightest color and start slapping shit on.
12) Then I grab some darker colors and get into the crease of my eyelid and start pulling some to the sides to get that really dramatic cat-eye. Especially since this wig has bangs, I didn't want my eyes to get lost.
13) This is also where I'll put a little bit of cream-colored highlight on my face, any areas that should be RAISED on your face get these. A little on the top of the cheekbones, tip of the nose, underneath the eyebrow arc where the browbones are etc.
14) Then the SPARKLEY shit goes on my eyes. I'm so glad I got this palette for 5 bucks. Its got lots of good options. Generally you want to do lighter colors from the center of your eyelid and in, darker colors on the outside.
15) Eyeliner! Some people do this last, I use liquid so it goes over my eyeshadow just fine. I need enough of it to hide the band of my falsies.
16) Speaking of false eyelashes... These suck to get on, I'm not gonna lie. Its a skill that I still mess up from time to time. There's no secret, no magic tip I can give you. You just gotta practice and scream in front of the mirror for a while. But I REALLY feel like they make a look. After you've got those rascally bastards on your eyes you can use mascara for the bottom lashes. Some folks use falsies on both, those are the bitches stronger than I.
17) Don't forget your lips and eyebrows! You can do your eyebrows a similar color to your eventual wig color or something more neutral. I used a slightly reddish brown here, not magenta. As a general rule you want to make sure you go at least a shade or two darker than whatever hair you're gonna have though.
18) Set your shit. A good setting spray is SO worth it.
19) Then you get your wig on and...
20) Voila! Hot demon lady.
