Very much the same thoughts here. Magic is Big and Unknown, things keep coming out of left field because Mark wasn't really focusing on the political side so we never really got the full perspective on what could happen. Fate is very much out of its box in this universe and the demons are not helping matters at all. But it really was foreshadowed so well, even if the pacing and focus felt a little off from the HVP stuff

It was already bad enough without Kardi being a traitor, and her being an unwitting tool is just narratively unsatisfying. Frankly, I don’t see any satisfying resolution of this clusterfuck without Kardi dying. I’d have included the goblin’s death, but it already escaped and so will once more be an unsatisfying antagonist. Maybe I’ll change my mind when I can read the conclusion, but right now I’m just sorta disappointed.
