Caturday: Purrito

Once again, Cat finds all the softest places in the house.

***

We are barreling toward the end of the year and all I can think is, "wait, what happened to 2018" o_o

I think I might take a few days off before December. Get my condition up for the grand rush for Christmas, which is my FAVORITE PART OF THE YEAR. (Seriously, I caught a cold earlier this week and my daughter's been encouraging me to get better by saying, "Just think, Mommy, when you beat this cold you can PREPARE for CHRISTMAS!" How well she knows me.)

But between writing and convalescing, I've been sneaking in time on a tiny game called "Pocket Stables": https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pocket-stables/id744851208?mt=8

Which allows you to raise and race horses, and I love horses, and I love races, and it reminds me of one of my favorite book series from childhood, the Black Stallion novels. (So naturally, I had to go re-buy them and now I am re-reading them. Amazon makes it appallingly easy to buy them all at once. Don't do that. Lol.)

Anyway, lest this become a "I love horses" post, I'll say that I found Pocket Stables by looking up the developer, since I'd earlier downloaded and enjoyed "Dungeon Village." If you're looking for a cute diversion that will only use up about five or six hours and then be done, I recommend Dungeon Village, Pocket Stables, or probably anything else Kairosoft writes. It's all the same mechanics, it looks like, just slightly different (but adorably pixelly) graphics.

What about y'all? Any cute but small things occupying you lately? Better yet, do you have any horse things to recommend me? :D

Horse things... have you seen The Man From Snowy River? I love the soundtrack, but it has horses too :-) <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_from_Snowy_River_(1982_film)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_from_Snowy_River_(1982_film)</a>

Pam Uphoff has genetically engineered telepathic smart horses in her Wine of the Gods series. Only some people can hear them, others don't believe they talk. Here's a sample <a href="https://pamuphoff.livejournal.com/594319.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://pamuphoff.livejournal.com/594319.html</a>

This doesn't have cute pixels, but it is strangely compelling: <a href="http://www.bloodrizer.ru/games/kittens/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.bloodrizer.ru/games/kittens/</a>#. It is sort of a resource management game, and it is really fun playing along, getting upgrades, and unlocking new stuff :)

Judith Tarr has a couple of columns on tor.com. One is re-reading Andre Norton; the other is on horses in sff. The whole list is here: <a href="https://www.tor.com/tag/sff-equines/page/3/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.tor.com/tag/sff-equines/page/3/</a> ; the first post is here: <a href="https://www.tor.com/2017/02/06/genre-runs-on-horsepower-introducing-the-sff-equine/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.tor.com/2017/02/06/genre-runs-on-horsepower-introducing-the-sff-equine/</a> . Several of the columns include speculation on horses in space, what their society would be like, etc. Fascinating stuff! I hope you feel better soon. --filkferengi
