So I was thinking. Every week, I go light a candle for family, friends, and for people in general... and if one of you mentions something, I usually add you to the list too: thank-yous for new babies, help-thems for people having hard times, that sort of thing.
I recently noticed I'm not the only one who does this: when someone here has said they needed help, I've seen more than one person say 'can I pray for you'. So I thought... maybe we could do a candle Friday every so often. If you need help, you can leave a comment and say so (you don't have to say why you need it unless you want to, you can just say 'me please!'). And if you want to help yourself, then you can say 'I'm on candle duty this time. I'm ready to help.'
I don't care where or how you communicate your good intentions: if it's a church, a synagogue, a mosque, on a prayer blanket, in your meditation ritual, outside to the spirits of air and water... no matter how you want to help, your help is welcome.
Likewise, no matter who you are, if you need help, we're going to try for you. You can ask on behalf of other people, as well: 'me for a friend who's going through a hard time' is totally okay.
Anyway, this might be silly or feel a little oversentimental or something, but I ran it past a bunch of you and you told me I wasn't crazy, or at least that I was crazy in a good way. But one of the things I love best about my community is that you all really are a community. If I can help you all feel like there are people looking out for you, I want to.
First candle Friday, then! If you need help, say so. If you want to help, that too.
