Toph's clothing changing in the background inbetween quick shots is one thing, but I think it's a bit weird that a lot of the gaang are wearing their normal clothes in the scene where they discover Aang's disapearance, but change back to their fire nation clothes when they look for him and then back to their regular clothes when Appa eats Momo. I might be remembering the episode wrong, but I still think it's weird.

Phoenixes are not from eastern mythology, they are greek. there are other divine birds from other cultures that has (for whatever reasons) been labeled as phoenixes, but their connection and similarity to the actual greek "phoinīx" is completely superficial. the chinese bird you are describing is called the "Fenghuang". i am not as familiar with the fenghuang, but from what i gather they have seemingly no associaton with either fire or rebirth, they are often just depicted as this mythical peacock. the only and very loose connection the fenghuang has to a phoenix is the claim that they originated from the sun. so i am pretty sure when the showrunners wrote him as the "phoenix king" they very much intented it to be the original phoenix from greek mythology and not the fenghuang

This was interesting to look up but (don’t quote me on this) from what I found it’s said Phoenixes takes different forms and genders but in Chinese mythology they’re considered female and pairs with a Dragon to symbolize martial harmony
