More Cringe... The MOST Cringe

Some of you may have caught my little live stream yesterday where i listened to an old stand up set, as well as some demo/song writing sessions... Well here it is for you to take a deeper listen and see if there's anything ANYTHING AT ALL in here worth poaching.
My attempts at standup were ill-fated but probably a necessary step for me - I had moved to new york after graduating college in Philadelphia and working as a waiter and getting involved with some local theater - I had tried my hand at film production, working in the art department but i didn't satisfy my creative side... And I wasn't good at it. So I moved to New York to take an honest shot at acting, performing, writing, comedy... ANYTHING. I got headshots and picked up backstage magazine, looking for a way in. I didn't have much luck and ended up getting a day job really quick in order to pay for living in new york... The one thing I could do was show up at open mic's and try my hand at stand up.... At this point, I was really obsessed with Andy Kauffman and I think you can hear a little bit of it in my act. It was a non act, a smattering of high concepts and little bits I'd done for my friends. You can hear my youth and fear and after a while, I just stopped doing it because it was just too hard to ask my same group of friends to come and spend 40 dollars on drinks on a Tuesday night in a midtown comedy club. I also lacked a very basic understanding of how to be a standup comedian. I though every time I went up I had to bring something totally new, instead of getting a set of jokes or ideas together and working it and getting better at it each time. And, I really had no one else in my life doing it. I didn't make friends in that community and really didn't interact with any other comedians until the tim and eric tapes started getting attention. So I Instead of beating that dead horse into the ground, I focused on The Tim Heidecker Masterpiece and on the weekends, Eric and I got together and made little short movies that entertained us. It's nice to listen back and even though it's terrible for the most part, there's still something a little adventurous about what I was trying to do and I think that's something to be proud of.
Additionally, there's some guitar noodling, songwriting going on on this Song Mini-Disc that's not too bad! I may poach some of these when the well is feeling dry.
Happy thanksgiving to all! I sure am thankful for this really great community and it's been a real bright spot in my life to see it grow - I know I end up focusing on the negative too much, but I appreciate it every time someone writes me thanking us for doing the show. It's still wild to me that anyone cares, that anyone finds our little antics worth paying attention to!
Peace and Love! -t
