MOONBASE!!!!

Seffffff

Remember a few weeks ago (maybe a month? what is time? how do we even keep track of it anymore?) when I said right here that I'd have Moonbase news coming in a few days? Ugh, what happened? Whenever that Saturday was,  we were then under the impression that the following Tuesday a press release was going out, announcing that Showtime has picked up Moonbase 08 and it would premiere on [ REDACTED]  We had our first zoom call scheduled with everyone at Showtime and A24 the day before the press release was set to go out, and about an hour before the call, we get an email that they are holding the press release because the date may (or may not) be shifting due to OTHER shows and THEIR schedules changing due to the Trump Virus.  Gaaah!  The call happened and everyone was very excited about the show, which was nice to hear and there were apologies about the pause in the announcement... You could tell the stress and uncertainty the Trump Virus has brought to nearly everyone and everything, including Premium Cable!  So.... The call ends and then WEEKS PASS!!! We were wondering if the show was dead again!  Finally, they emerged last week still without a firm air date but they wanted to get the word out that it IS coming and an air date will be imminent, and so they decided to announce anyway without a firm date... So now the word is out and pretty soon you'll get to see a trailer and a poster and interviews and finally the whole dang season (6 half hours)  JESUS CHRIST!

It's hard, and maybe even boring to explain why it took so long... I think there was a confluence of reasons - First, there were really only a handful of places where this should could live... It was made in a very unorthodox way: A24 fully funded the 6 episodes, really putting their neck out there, to dump a good amount of money into it without a guarantee there would be a buyer... I mean I guess it was a pretty safe bet but still... It was not the way things are usually made in this town, at least in the TV world.   I think HBO had JUST greenlit Avenue 5 right as we finished ours so they were not up for dealing with another space themed comedy... I don't think Space Force was up and running so i don't know what happened with Netflix (again it may have been they only wanted to deal with shows that they helped develop?) I think we spent a long time talking to TBS and it almost ended up there but then there were massive changes and upheavals THERE too... and Showtime was always in the mix, but there were changes there too and they didn't know what they wanted to do, blah blah blah... it just druggggg on... But somehow we think it's landing at the perfect time, just as everyone was running out of original programming!   And while it was made WAY before the Trump virus, there's weird uncanny themes of isolation, quarantine and loneliness that run through the show that will make it feel eerily relevant.  But it's also funny (i think!)

Anyway, you'll hear more about all of this soon. Hopefully we'll have John and Fred on the show in the fall and do a whole stroll down memory lane.

Blessings to you! Thanks for your continued membership in the best podcast/live stream/morning talk show in the whole wide world! Love T

PS... A new single from "Fear Of Death" is coming next week. It's called "Nothing" and it's gonna knock you out.

Comments

I am so excited for this.

Christ Why

"Nothing" is so, SO good. I'd love a video in the style of those cheesy tv performances from the 70s. Like Captain & Tennille or the Carpenters.
